By inky Go To PostWell, mostly for higher framerates and stuff. At 1080p I don't know if it is that massive. Plus, at bargain bin prices for the 2600 during BF, the performance to price ratio will certainly be superior for the 2600.I also need to factor in future proofing. It really depends on how steep a discount I'm going to see.
By bacon Go To PostI also need to factor in future proofing. It really depends on how steep a discount I'm going to see.Future proofing is mostly meaningless. The only step you can really take towards that is ensuring the motherboard can support higher end Ryzen CPUs so that you don't have to buy a new mobo when wanting to pick one up. This is a pretty useful reference for that: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wmsTYK9Z3-jUX5LGRoFnsZYZiW1pfiDZnKCjaXyzd1o/edit?usp=sharing

If I was building one to use for the next few years today, the 3600 is a no-brainer at current MSRP. But accounting for BF, a 2600/2700 at half or less than half the price would be the best budget option. That's $100 extra for a 1TB ssd, or it would cover your ram/ better mobo.
Definitely check mobo compatibility like Kibner suggests first. I think any B450+ model should support 3000 series out of the box. The B350 are the ones that need an update and lower than that don't support it. Don't know anything about future Ryzen products tho.

By Kibner Go To PostYou know the drill: purpose, budget, size, touchscreen, minimum battery life, etc.
Gaming and VMs for work. Would like a 17" but I guess id be ok with 15". $3000 top end. Battery life isn't a deal breaker for me, I just want it to be travel friendly, and not a bulky desktop replacement.
Exactly what I was thinking inky. I genuinely was looking up 1TB SSDs an hour ago so that's my dilemma right now. My current system lasted me seven years so I'm not worried about having to upgrade the mobo down the line when a new architecture comes out.
I believe MSI B450 boards support 3000 series out of the box but I was going to look into that later so thanks Kibner for that spreadsheet.

If it doesn't need to be great you can save a lot of money (especially on black friday) on something like an XPS 15. If you want a higher performance GPU but still want a "thin and light" then There's the MSI Stealth's, Gigabye Aero's and Asus ROG Zephyrus. I've heard too much about Razer's quality control issues to recommend them tho

Obviously won't get my 2080ti in laptop form, but pretty good at gaming. I've primarily been looking at the Zephyrus line, but wasnt aware of the others.

B450 boards will only support Ryzen 3000 CPUs out of the box if they're new stock that have had the BIOS updated on them.
Depending on the GPU you plan to use with the system, I'd say you'd be fine going with the 2600. However if the BF deals on a 3600 are good then I'd would say spend a little more and go up to that. Currently, they're £180 in the UK, I'd consider £150-£160 on sale an absolute steal if I was looking to buy new parts. As for the GPU, I'd say anything below or on par with a 1070 in performance is an ideal match for a 2600 and the difference in games between that and the 3600 will be negligible.

They are kinda my go-to for laptop reviews, and actually have reviews not just "Here's what i think about the specs" crap that you will randomly find.
Personally i only have experience in laptops like that with the XPS15 and their Precision counterparts...

Good look on the link!
Girlfriend bought top of the line xps 15. It's lightweight but it still crushes 4k footage in premiere. Extra performance when I added extra HDD for cache and undervolt. I'm beginning to rethink doing my freelance post production work on a laptop instead of working from home instead.
also does anyone know the best app for doing remote work? I've been using TeamViewer but was wondering if there's better options out there.

VNC and RDP are lightweight stuff that are pretty simple to setup.
Unless its cost prohibitive for you, Teamviewer is just about as good as anything. They have gotten a bit more annoying lately, though.

I finally got a freesync monitor and I must say, I didn't realize what I was missing out on before. It's quite cool.
Speaking of laptops, I friend of mine has recently acqured an Asus gaming laptop with 1 x 16gb 2666 DDR4 and wants to upgrade to dual channel. If there's no mention of XMP in the UEFI and in the laptop's manual, it's safe to assume it doesn't support overclocking, right?
After now having yelled at several carpenters in the phone for almost 2 months, I can now finally move away from my moms place. What a time to be alive. Water damage can suck my hog.
Got my new desk in today, and re-moving back in properly tomorrow. It's huge and beautiful (and 90 degrees curved, just like Pulga's dick). Certainly room for an ultra wide, which I would use for singleplayer games and general use (so slaent can waste even more space in my browser), on top of my 1400p screen, and my 1080p 240hz monitor. Which one are you using again, Zabo? and what would you recommend?
I'm going to rotate my 1440p vertically, keep the high refresh rate on to the right with my lightweight mouse and keyboard. Then I think add a wireless keyboard and mouse for general use on the ultra wide.

I'mma need picture of said desk when you're comfortable sharing your setup.
Acer Nitro XF252Q. 24.5", 1080p, TN, 240hz. Got it for ~360€, which is about what the Alienware AW2518HF goes for. I went with the Acer because it features a newer version of the same AUO 240hz panel (1.9 vs. 1.0) and has black frame insertion. It was either one of these two or the Benq Zowie XL2540, which is a fair bit pricier and has mostly the same exact features. Gonna post a short review of the Acer after my bro is done testing it and I get to properly set in up.
So ultrawide on top of the 1080p screen with the 1440p on the side, vertically? Could work, but it depends on your sitting position(s). I don't think I could ever deal with having a monitor to the side of my 34" ultrawide, even positioned vertically, nor with a standard stacked arrangement, which is why I'll be pulling my 240hz monitor down over my ultrawide when I'm playing online. Theory is sound, will see how it works out in RL.

Nice. I am going to look for deals on black friday, singles day, couples day, cyber monday and whatever
It wouldn't be to the side of the ultra wide. I would use that and just that for when I browse the internet or play singleplayer games.
My idea is I would have the ultra wide on one side of the desk, and keep the high refresh rate one and the 1440p vertical one for when I play CS. The desk is curved, so lots of space for it. Here, let me show you:

What kind of fleshlight is that? Puss or ass? Can't quite make it out.
Yeah, that's actually a great idea, if a bit wasteful, unless you'll find a way to make use of the two monitors to the right when you're not CSing. I'm already wondering what I'll be using my 240hz for outside of Apex (and whatever comes after it). No idea. Ultrawide has real estate for deiz.

It's the Jenna Haze model. I want Greg Puciato to sign it for me.
it can be transformed to a dean edition though

Well maybe I can use the 1440 one for both, with it in the middle and all. But the 1080p screen really isnt great for anything but being a high refresh rate monitor for csgo.

Finished that cheapo build earlier on hard mode since I didn't have a magnetic tip screw driver to hand.
Didn't think a brown Noctua would be appreciated, so swapped it for a Redux I had laying around. I imagine it'll perform worse, but given it's only a 1500X, I can't see it getting too toasty given it'll be 100% gaming.
That GPU is an RX 470 Red Devil, the previous owner said he swapped the fans on it and it was used for mining so I'll need to flash the VBIOS on it.
