By Bold 2 in One Go To Post@Kibner and @Vapes.Just keep in mind all my sound stuff is for down the line. None of it is necessary. Only look into it when you become unsatisfied with your PC sound or just want to blow money on something.
Thank you for the effort, I have a lot to chew on.
@Horse, no, I will not buy that monitor.
Definitely look at those monitors I linked, though, and compare it to the one Vapes used in his list to figure out which works best for you. That is probably the hardest part of the build. If you want 60 fps in every title @ ultra settings with resolutions higher than 1080p, you will probably need to upgrade that video card Vape listed, though.

it doesn't have hdr either. amazing deal.
By Laboured Go To PostDoes freesync play poorly with HDR?They shouldn't have anything to do with each other.

Just seem to remember NV making out that they *supposedly* had to add in extra tech to get HDR to play nice with Gsync.
By Laboured Go To PostJust seem to remember NV making out that they *supposedly* had to add in extra tech to get HDR to play nice with Gsync. That may have been due to (pure speculation beyond this point) HDR using 10 bits of color and gsync originally developed for the standard 8 bit. And since gsync uses hardware on the monitor itself, they had to add extra tech to handle it.
Freesync is mostly done on the GPU so it probably doesn't need tech updates on the monitor side nearly as often.

I think that was on Pascal, there was/is a performance hit to using HDR and Gsync together.
So...
My laptop has 2 ram slots. Should I replace one with a 16gb ram or just get 8x2 rather than 16+4?

I have access to a GTX 650. Not sure if using it will cause a need for a bigger psu.
More concerned about being able to stream, when I get an Elgato (PS4). I'm sure my Adobe programs will run fine.
Just did a wipe and a clean install. I need to get a another bay, for my second SSD. Currently, I'm using a 250 SSD and a 1TB hard drive.

4 core, 8 thread. Hmm... it may be able to do 720p 30 fps @ medium. That GT 640 is not able to do any encoding.

By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostI might be able to correct that, tomorrow. Good looks.Actually, it looks like I may be wrong. There was a button to show more of the chart and the 640 is on there. But it is limited to H.264 (AVCHD) YUV 4:2:0 encoding. The oldest/cheapest card that has full compatibility according to that chart is the 1660.
By diehard Go To Postonly Turing gets integer scaling boooo
From a dev at era
As some food for thought in regards to integer scaling being restricted to Turing cards (whether you like it or not or not is up to you, but I haven't seen anybody discuss why this is on a technical level yet so I figured I'll throw this information out there), it's most likely the reason why is that they are utilizing the Int32 cores of said Turing cards, something that Pascal and cards before it simply do not have.
Traditionally, trying to do integer processing on a GPU produces fuzzy results because what integers actually did in shaders requires processing them as floats regardless, so even when comparing what you'd think was integers wouldn't necessarily compare to exactly 0 or 1, for example.
Int32 cores solve this by outright doing what you'd expect with an integer value (no floating fuzziness, 1 will always equal 1, etc). So even the shaders that claim to be doing this already are technically faking it because your typical GPU can only calculate it as a float in the first place. This is a "fun" problem when dealing with colour palettes in restoring DOS era games.
This is all an educated guess of course, Nvidia haven't explained the sauce behind it yet, but I'm betting it's that.

Or drop one of the 360 rads and put in another system at the bottom. Get you your streaming rig in there so you don't have to siphon off power from your gaming rig to encode the streams. >:D
New Gamescom driver installed, highest settings at 4k (except MSAA). Forza Horizon 4 looks goddamn crazy.

Watched that earlier. That’s the kind of large case I can get behind. It’s massive, but justifiably so.
In contrast to the Phanteks case in the Jay video. I saw this case a year or two ago for the first time and it is one of the cleanest looking I've ever seen to this day, but the lack of full length GPU support just absolutely kills it for me.
I really wish the big case manufacturers would go all in on a premium case in the same style as it though. There just doesn't seem to be any proper high end and minimalist ATX cases like this.
For the life of me, I can't figure out why the 1903 update won't install. It feels like I've tried everything, at this point.
By HottestVapes Go To PostOkay, Bold. List is ready. I canny do £800 square though, not all in with the monitor and KB/M, but I can keep it under £900. Speaking of the monitor, consider what I listed as a placeholder, it's just a cheaper 27inch 60Hz IPS monitor from a brand I've heard of.How much would an 8 core cpu bump the price up by?
Couple things to point out, you can save £10 by going with a regular SSD, but I figured you may benefit from an NVMe drive. I also assumed you need a fair amount of mass storage so I begrudgingly added a 2TB hard drive.
On the GPU front, I went with the GTX 1060 3Gb over a RX 570 8Gb. Mainly because, from what I remember from old benchmarking videos the 1060 3Gb performs better than a 570 and they're exactly the same price currently.
You can also save some money on the case, but do you want an ultra budget case? I went with that one since it's presentable and firmly in the middle between a budget case and a decent case, while having decent airflow.
If you bump the budget up further, then you can easily swing for a better GPU or an 8 core CPU if you'll benefit more from that with video editing.
If I could have a revised list with a better cpu or gpu and I can reevaluate my budget.
Thanks a lot.
Tough because a 1060 for that price is a killer deal, but if gaming is a major concern it still might be good to put more money towards the video card.

For a better GPU list, it'll depend on sales and offers going on, but for an extra £30 over the the 1060 3Gb, you can get an RX 580 8Gb which is really good value. Pushing the budget slightly over £900, you can go up to a GTX 1660 too.

By Facism Go To Postim really torn on an RTX card. They really seem like they're a garbage first step into raytracing and i should probably wait.I rarely ever turn the RTX features on to be honest. Going from the 1080 to 2080Ti, the main reason for me was just the much better 4K performance. It was pretty much double the performance.
To me the 2080ti seems like a good 4K card (yes I know it's also the best current 4K card) but like an absolutely awesome 1440 HFR card too.
Any idea how I can get the Active Signal Resolution and Display resolutions to match
In this case I want both to be 1080p. Whenever I select 1080p/144hz the screen gets darker as if I'm still running at 4k/144hz, which I guess it think I am going by the above, and the chroma sub sampling stuff kicks in due to Displayport's lack of bandwidth. But I can't seem to get the two to match no matter what I do.

Set aside a Saturday, it’ll probably take you a couple hours. I’ll link some beginner build guides for you so you know what goes where. It’s honestly super easy to put together.
If you want a prebuilt though, I’ll look around for a decent deal for you.

I was looking into pre-builts btw, they're not terrible value. With OCUK, you can spec out one of their cheaper pre-builts to a similar spec as the builds I posted above. There's about a £200 premium on top. Some worse parts, some better parts. You get a warranty and all that jazz with it, but I find it pretty hard to justify the excess charge on top of prebuilts.
