What most disappointed me about last night was just our absolute lack of a plan when Croatia took control. Southgate’s done a great job, but his game management is trash.
Ah well. Had a real fun time, and that’s what football’s all about.

I think a few posters made the same points yesterday. England started well with Alli and Lingard's linking up effectively. But when Croatia settled into the game England's tactics meant they didn't have enough men to cover Croatia's midfield and wingbacks. And Southgate never changed his formation to compensate.
English fans have a lot to look forward to. They have a really talented generation (17-18 years old group) coming through.
By n8 dogg Go To PostfukI am not sure but I think Kane was offside. That's why some people aren't counting with that shot as a shot on target.
Kane is one of the best centre forwards in the world. He's never squaring that ball nor should he. Blame him for missing however.

If he scores, I think it gets allowed by VAR
Even if Kane wasn't offside, Sterling certainly would've been. The counterfactual pass by Kane doesn't make sense.

A pass to a player behind you can never be offside afaik
By Diego! Go To PostEngland trying to score whilst Croatia were celebratingEven if the ref wouldn't have stopped it, it would have been offside after the kickoff.
Proper Ingurlund.
It was given offside, despite what the commentators said, you can see that by where the kick was taken from afterwards.
The replays showed it was close though, if he had scored, VAR might have given it.

Edit: fuck me like 15 people said the same
My friend and me had a discussion about that, can VAR rescind offside calls (they can probably decide if something is offside, but a call that has been made already)?
Feels weird we'll still be playing on Saturday. Hopefully Kane can confirm the golden boot at least. Doubt we'll beat Belgium tho.

By batong Go To PostMy friend and me had a discussion about that, can VAR rescind offside calls (they can probably decide if something is offside, but a call that has been made already)?VAR only acts on 4 occasions : goals, penalty, red card offenses and when a card was given to the wrong player.
That's why the refs have instructions to let the play continue in case of doubt of offside, if it ends in a goal then VAR can disallow it if it was offside but if a offside is wrongly given by the ref then VAR can't do anything.

That's when I knew that England was going to lose

By FootbalIFan Go To PostSo now England were shit and one of the worst teamsI don't think England was one of the worst teams, I think it was one of the best teams (at least when it came to team lineup and chance of reaching the final considering the strength of the knockout bracket), with one of the worst plans beyond their starting XI. They didn't create enough chances as is, they didn't have contingency plans when under pressure to score or defend, they didn't have a plan to change the shape with players from the bench, most subs were like for like. Alli, Kane, Sterling, Lingard, Rashford, Dier, all underperformed when they were needed. When players like Vardy came on they were just thrown up front with no idea how to take advantage of them best, or create space or make sure the team was winning the second balls.
Football fans man
Incredible
I guess to Vrsaljko's point, it's interesting when you see this in isolation. Didn't quite remember this many moments from him hoofing it.

that's really bad.
By Meier Go To PostI guess to Vrsaljko's point, it's interesting when you see this in isolation. Didn't quite remember this many moments from him hoofing it.tbf that's how they usually attacked yesterday; a lot of long balls from the back line/Pickford that sometimes lead to a quick transition. This obviously fell apart in the second half.
It's all England did after the equaliser, Henderson and Walker both just hoofed it. They were in a rush, for no reason.
Sterling would've missed off the square pass anyway. Breh shoots like Bambi on ice.
henderson is trash. im reminded of his epic back/side passes in the CL final.

Henderson was alright. I think the England NT was playing longballs by design.
It was fantastic of Southgate to put Rashford further up to pick up the ball and expected to dribble his way... and Croatia just nullify that by sticking 2, 3 players on him.
Even if he managed to get free there was still a problem that other players were just too exhausted to keep up. Dele was just watching Rashford at one point.

By Laboured Go To PostStupid cunt. It was a Croatian journalist that wrote about Croatian tired legs.
Burden of proof is on you to show that no English pundit said what he described.

Just searched it. People who brought up Croatian tiredness before the game: Luka Modric, Zlatko Dalic and Diego Forlan.
Also found one betting article in The Sun which I'm sure is what Modric had read and is referring to lol.
So, like I said, stupid cunt.

Cavalo is right. I will not allow Modric's misinformation campaign against Big Gaz's Beautiful Boys to go unchecked.
