By HasphatsAnts Go To PostIt'd be nice if these devs got paid like what 100 hr work week jobs actually paid.havent they suffered enough?
By alt sy Go To PostNaughty Dog crunched so hard to dev Uncharted 4 in 2 years it sent Bruce Straley on a spirit quest. Man said fuck a Last Of Us 2.Nearly passed our on the office,
Fucking lol,
Seriously, the shit ND gets away with is criminal.
By alt sy Go To PostProbably harder to outsource actors though.
Heard BOTW dev was fuckt. I hear a lot of bad things about Japanese employee mentality in general.
lol yeah japanese work mentality is dumb. just find it funny that they just sit on finished games for such a long period of time. zelda seems to be the only one that is more western in development.
Can't imagine the crunch at DICE now.
Also Black Ops 4 has a 1 month head start. Not sure if EA has the ability to change things around.

By Doncicic Go To Postcan't you say the same about acting? they got it done. They got it done in 1913, back when it was fashionable. The wealthy have convinced people that benefits and a living wage are what's holding everyone back from joining the 1% since then.
admittedly a long time ago.
By Doncicic Go To Postshould've crunched less and cut 3/4 of that boring slog.In fact, that's what they wanted to do but they already delayed it once so they couldn't lol.
By DY_nasty Go To Posthavent they suffered enough?ok fine. would be nice if they got paid like fancy MBAs in NYC and Boston who also have to work 100 hour work weeks.
Legit have no clue how people can work 100 weeks. 40 hour weeks leave me drained. 60 hours and I'm basically fucking around for 20 of those hours lol.
By FortuneFaded Go To PostSuen says a lot of things.
suen worked or works for them.
By Flutter Go To Postso they don't "ask" anyone to do it but it seems like the game wouldn't be able to ship without it, convinient
The "we don't ask anybody to crunch" excuse is not a denial that people are, in fact, out here pulling 100 hour weeks and it's so disingenuous. Nobody on these teams gets asked to work that much, but there's certainly an unspoken expectation that they better be there pulling these horrible hours or else.
Aye, Dan isn't fooling anyone.
So mad about this and a boycott should be in order.
I won't be buying Red Dead Redemption 2 Online DLCs.

the worst part of all this is once they finish theyll be back to making premium cars and bottle opening animations for gta online
By Xpike Go To Postthe worst part of all this is once they finish theyll be back to making premium cars and bottle opening animations for gta onlineNo, the worst part is that they will go back to working 50-60 hour weeks on the same salary, and if the game doesn't sell 20mil copies in 48 hours then they'll start laying off 30% of their workforce.
100 hour weeks is insane idk how anyone can do that. When I was working OT at my job this summer I was doing 70/week. My checks were nice but it took a toll on me
100 a week means you literally live at your job. You just go somewhere else to take a shower and brush your teeth

Which, you know, only scored a 95 on metacritic and sold over 10 million copies.
A couple of us practically lived in an unused office space when we did 100 hour weeks. I shared an apartment with some friends but I think I only slept there only a couple of days in a year before I gave up and opted out.
When I got really frazzled I slept in the audio room with my hoodie as a blanket. Having it totally soundproof was a godsend at times.
That was a decade ago. Think some of my friends still do it since most of them are in studios that have movies coming out next year. They do great work, but they are doing it out of 'passion'. Very little or no overtime pay even when some of them own part of the studios they are in.

Didn't some woman die in Japan a few months ago from working like a 130 hour week or something?
Fuck these crazy weeks and hours, really should be capped. Or at the very least have set OT rates or something.
If I work over 45 mins extra in work they've to pay me at time and a half and they give me 15 quid to compensate for not providing a hot meal. So cushy, they never let us stay late.

its undoubtedly worse in japan with their ridiculous work culture but journos seem much less inclined to raise a stink about it--yu suzuki is praised for his ambition in shenmue but no one thinks of the poor sap who had to waste their life texturing the inside of a random drawer that 10 people have ever seen.
lmao I'm pissed I have to work a 40 hour week. After reading all these horror stories, I would never work as a dev in video game industry, fuck passion and all that shit

crunch is tough in creative industries, no one wants to be associated with shoddy work so i dunno what sort of regulation/union activity can help
these devs deserve way higher salaries at least
too bad gamers scream at every attempt to earn more money

The way it sounds like some of these places are run they're probably not actually actually working the entire time (which is still shit) but have to be ready down the pipe line when other shit is finally finished and can't just peace out home. I bet you'd find so much time and project mismanagement in gaming especially since it's fairly obvious a lot of the TOP people don't rise up through any sort of creative/design positions. Like they fuckin' know how long anything takes.

I've done close to 100hr work weeks before. I don't recommend it, even if you're single and on the grind. Burnout is real and mistakes will be made.
Honestly, being that sleep deprived is scary. The mind isn't built for it.

Being that sleep deprived is a danger to others too. Plenty of those folks driving to and from work.
