Pacific Rim is rad as hell.
It's dumb in a way that I can get behind. The acting is bad, the dialog is worse, but then robots fight monsters and it's very pretty.

Fuck your opinion if you don't like Pacific Rim. That was worth the price of admission. Some movies are self-ware and deliver exactly the kind of experience they should. Pacific Rim does exactly what it wants to do and it's highly entertaining. Ditto for Kingsman.
Hating on Pacific Rim is like the musical equivalent of hating on Eye of the Tiger or something.

And it fucking delivers. It's super fun, it's really pretty, everyone is chewing scenery. What did you really want?
Shit script, shit acting, action scenes are staged poorly with terrible lighting, sense of cohesion and choreography.
Naw bruhs. I'm down for some films that value fun over script, narrative, character development, etc. And I'm down for films that are self-aware that they ain't shit. But Pacific Rim wasn't that. I would have loved if it embraced it's anime/manga roots - and fully embraced the campy fuckery. But naw, Pacific Rim is an example of a script that was trying to legitimately be good.
If the film was 100% mechs fighting aliens. I would have been down. But naw. We had horse shit characters. Horse shit character development. Horse shit dialog. Horse shit narrative. Horse shit attempts at tugging at the heart strings. And they must have spent all that budget on the mech/aliens effects - cause those sets were looking like one of those movie set recreations at a theme park.

Speed Racer is literally what Pacific Rim should have been. ONE HUNDRED percent intentional schlock fuckery - and good :3

Can't say "I expected to see robots fighting monsters, that's what I got" when its punctuated by a bunch of shit elements everywhere else.
By harSonReal Steel is the best mech movie of the last few years :3breh
i know mech movies are hurting but ugh
Heat would've ended better if dude took the left and got away.
Training Day should've ended either when Denzel hands dude over to the mexicans, after Denzel convinces the hood to give him back the money, during a break after Denzel drops naive cop off and pays the russians, or when Denzel stashes the money away hidden in his car only to hand it to the russians at the end.
Star Wars is boring as shit.
American Pie is the pre-social media renaissance trilogy.
The Fast and the Furious is one of the greatest franchises of all time.

Infernal Affairs is superior to The Departed in every single way
Scorsese lifts characters and scenes wholesale from the former without any consideration towards how they make sense in his movie
and don't get me started on the fucking ending.

By KingGondoLove Pacific Rim and I'm glad it's getting a sequel. Del Toro is a master.
I wish he'd go back to doing something like Pan's Labryinth. Sigh.
Pacific Rim would have been a good movie if Charlie Day's character wasn't in it.
But he was so I took a nap when he went to Hong Kong

By RetroBy Xulutovthe dark knight was much better
No it wasn't.
The movie makes no sense and the way it presents its ideas on morality is some of the most eye roll worthy shit I've ever seen
The ONLY good thing about TDK was Ledger being balls to the wall. The rest is hot garbage. I also agree with anyone and everyone who says Drive ain't all that. There are some moments, but mostly my eyes rolled right out of my head at how fucking seriously I was supposed to take everything BECAUSE FILM AND REASONS. nope, son.
I like the LotR films okay, but the Hobbit movies have been utterly ridiculous, drawn-out messes. I can't even hate-watch that shit.
I straight want to slap everyone who tries to tell me that Frozen is feminist or some sort of victory for women. "Let it Go" is a great awakening song (and pretty ballsy for a Disney song), but hold Frozen up to Lilo & Stitch and tell me which one has more to say and the possibility of deeper impact, as well as more empowering visuals.
My deep, dark confession is that I find The Happening watchable and entertaining, and I adore Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette.

Pacific Rim is the jam.
Waterboy is one of the greatest sports movies ever made.
I haven't seen Frozen, nor wish to.
Lilo and Stitch is my favorite Disney film.
Scarface was meh. Godfather 1 & 2 always.
Real Steel was entertaining.
Aliens over Alien.
I can tolerate Prometheus.
I enjoyed Elysium.

I also consider Olaf-esque characters to be an insult to the intelligence of slime molds, never mind human children.

come on bruh
I don't even like Del Toro and I have to disagree.
Real talk though, Del Toro needs to drop the Hollywood bullshit and go back to his roots. His best films are Cronos, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth. Crimson Peak is a step in the right direction, but he needs to just do a Spanish language film so he's not tempted to cast Charlie Hunnam's no acting ass. Like seriously - the fuck you doing giving this dude top billing in anything?

First Contact is a lot of fun too.
By DY_nastystar trek > star wars too
agreed. SW is trash outside of maybe 2 movies, not a good track record.
The only Star Wars movies I really like are the first and Empire. I don't know if this is controversial or not.
To be fair, the ratio of good to bad films for both franchises is probably similar. Who would have thought one of the best Star Trek films would be about fucking Whales lmao? And if we're judging the franchise as a whole, are we throwing Video Games into the mix as well? Because Star Wars takes a massive dump on Star Trek in that department.
It's not an either or proposition for me though, I <3 both.

To me a bunch of SF/Fantasy fiction has a better universe than the individual stories told if anyone gets me.

Don't know if we can be friends, anymore, man...it's one of my favorite movies. It's just so well made.
And didn't know about Crimson Peak. Curious. I too liked The Devil's Backbone. I'm happy if it's in that mold, too.
By Zero ToleranceI'm on my phone so I'll elaborate later, but 3's plot is more solid (albeit wackier) than 2's is. Not to mention the fight scenes in 3 make 2 seem like it ain't shit.By Professor BeefTmnt3 > Tmnt2

I could write an essay on how TMNT3 is better than 2. I actually made a thread about it on GAF, but as I mentioned in the blurb above, the plot is a lot stronger in the 3rd movie than in the 2nd. If you want I can actually go into detail, but for now I'm just gonna copy/paste the TL;DR I made in that thread:
TMNT2
[+] Continuity is alive and well
[+] Costumes look good
[+] Ninja Rap
[+] Pizza in the opening credits looks delicious
[-] Very few fight scenes; short fights, to boot
[-] No weapons are used
[-] "Secret of the Ooze" is treated like a b-plot
[-] Super Shredder "fight" is maybe a minute long
[-] Vanilla Ice
TMNT3
[+] Turtles love to wisecrack
[+] Many satisfying fight scenes
[+] Story is silly and nonsensical, but enjoyable
[+] Corey Feldman
[-] Turtles wisecrack a lot, YMMV on how endearing it is
[-] No climactic fight scene with Big Bad
[-] Casey Jones relegated to babysitting b-plot
[-] Story is silly and nonsensical (yay time traveling egg-timers)
[-] All Turtle costumes look completely identical compared to TMNT1 or even 2 (even the heights are the same)
