Gamecube Adapter Works on Switch - GameXplain
- Page 1 of 1
GameXplain just posted a video that shows the Gamecube controller works on the switch with the newest update! We are now closer to a new Smash Brothers!
Smash Switch is like the worst kept secret at this point lmfao.
Just get it over with and put ya boy Travis Touchdown in

And just works with stuff that isn't smash.
At a loss for words. Totally did not expect this at all.

So is it gonna be Smash 4 Deluxe or 5?? No way they're gonna dump all that Smash 4 goodness to die on the Wii U.

Think it'll be a new game. But it'll reuse the assets with most if not all of the characters coming back.

... I’m really internally punching myself for selling my adapter now. I’ll have to pick one up again before the inevitable Smash game releases.
Does the Mayflash one work? Sorry if it’s addressed in the video, I can’t watch at the moment.

By KabukiWaq Go To PostDoes the Wii U pro controller work as well? This is awesome. If you use a USB adaptor then sure, that's been possible for a while (in particular, this one: http://www.mayflash.com/Products/NINTENDOWiiU/MAGIC-NS.html). If you want native support then I doubt it. Would require Nintendo to implement the proprietary Wii/Wii U controller protocol into the Switch's firmware, which they could easily do if they wanted to but real question is "do they want to?". I get the impression they don't.
I might have to get my old adapter back from my younger brother to try this out. This past update was a crazy one, between this and the Sony PS4 Gold Headset now working with the system.
Whether Switch gets a brand new Smash or a Smash4 Up-port you just knew they weren't gonna try to phase out the gamecube controller. It is too important to the Smash community and Nintendo understands that.
There would be no reason to do this without a Smash game on the way in the near future
Edit: Unless they're adding a GCN VC, which would also be acceptable to me

I’d love to know as well, although I’m not 100% certain where my adapter buggered off to... :/
Dammit, I keep telling myself not to get excited over a Smash 4 port, but then stuff like this happens and it's just too much for my little, Smash-loving heart to handle.
If this really means GC VC, though, then I'd be for it.

had breath of the wild open when i went to test my cheap knockoff adapter and it worked! it would be a process to play without ZL and L/R3 but it's technically possible lmao
I would’ve never imagined my GC controllers still being supported on a modern console 16 years after buying them. Incredible.
Even more surprising, they’re all still in great condition! No other controllers of mine have survived so long. Usually the analog sticks start falling apart or getting that sticky/melty feeling.

Is the GCN controller the longest officially supported controller in gaming? It has to be, right?
Not counting a keyboard.

Aaahhh this is exciting! Honestly don't know what I want more, an enhanced Smash 4 or a totally new one. On one hand, barring some redundant Fire Emblem characters, losing anyone from 4 would be a travesty, but the idea of a totally new Smash with the potential to be a serious competitive fighting game this time around is too tantalizing.
