By data Go To PostI've never really had a constant in my life outside of my parents. I've lived in the same city for most of my life, but I've regularly changed friends, my best friend died when i was 7 and ive never replaced him, I've never dated a girl longer than 6 months, I don't have kids, I've never been married, I only ever had one job for over a year until recently and my job moves people around all the time so I don't really have constant co-workers either.nothing wrong either way. Some people like change. Some don't. And there's certainly no point bringing a kid in to the world just because you're lonely.
I don't know if that's good or bad.

tbf your kid will make you feel like the best person ever no matter the shitty day you've had. but that's the wrong reason to have one lol
i love my dad, even through all the bs
but he just sent me a page long text and voicemail i'm not gonna listen to about how leaving the military is basically the biggest mistake of my life
this dude ain't even see me in college three times and doesn't even know i was engaged but wants to tell me how to live my life i cannot

By Random Ass Username Go To PostTell him about the failed engagement to make a point lmao.i could throw it back in his face but he genuinely cares and i'm not trying to even put that energy out there. im just like.... goddamn this dude has some crazy image of himself and how our relationship has been since high school. i ask him for motivation and nothing else because he's been maddening in any other role as a father.

like bro - you didn't 'get out' you got kicked out for being a scheming, arrogant fuck lol. it doesn't apply to me

Half the reason I'm shaky bout rasing a kid is due to my (decent.....but still flawed) upbringing
I just try to talk to my son about life shit. My parents never spoke to me about anything. It was always listen and don’t say a word. That happens with my son but only during times he thinks he knows everything.
he's a fucking drama queen too. and i wouldn't mind it for emphasis on certain things that we're on the same page about... but when he tries to say to be careful in certain areas while being completely oblivious to the fact that i've got legit goon friends and accomplices there it irritates me to no end. he just missed out completely on parts of my life and then tries to act like he's the reason i'm as fortunate as i am - and not immediately bringing out a notepad to jot down his parables is testament to my hubris
again, he cares. and i'm not so up my own ass that i'll take that for granted or ignore but goddamn
meanwhile my grandmother is speaking the best wisdom i've heard in ages and we talk more than ever.

That's nice DY. I miss being able to talk to my grandmother. She always knew how to chop people up without you even realizing it until you walked away like "wait did I just get told?"
I get along great with my folks but I usually go to my aunt for advice more than anyone than these days. She's really become like a clone of my grandma.

My parents are having a new floor put in the second restroom. Which means I’m getting the fuck out of the house because these people are horrible any time work on the house is going down
Speaking of parents. I just moved back into my parents! FUCK ME.
They're selling their current house and so they got a place in Costa Mesa so it's easy for them to sell and then buy / remodel their next. I'm following because so cal traffic blows and my kids need their grandma for babysitting.
It's completely convenient for me while I sell my house in Chino Hills and buy my another house in Tustin, and I realize that and thank them. Still ... it's hard.
Also moving fucking blows.

Don't tell him that you let psy convince you to buy a Naruto game.
I didn’t get out of the house fast enough. Now on my way to Lowe’s to buy a new toliet and sink with my mom
Moving sucks. I actually don't mind putting in floors with friends for their fam and stuff. Older people love carpet too much tho gotta keep reminding them you can swiffer a hard surface at your age you want to haul around a vacuum?

I keep trying to get my mother a Roomba as a family gift to her and she refuses lol
After having pets and carpet and still having pets I don't want it anywhere in my home. Carpet I mean not roomba.
thankfully, my dog doesn't poop in the house anymore, so i can still use mine in good conscience

By Apollo Go To PostI don't ever want to own a home but if I did I want hardwood everywhere
There's a case for bedrooms to remain carpeted. Bathroom and Kitchens should probably be tile too due to water damage.

We're putting tile down right now in my parent's bathroom. I want hardroom in the bedrooms. I hate the feel of carpet hate it.

It can get cold in the mornings and carpet is actually good for babies learning to walk / crawl. I agree with you aesthetically though. Wood throughout is my favorite.

I am never having children again anyways.
My mom is thinking about just remodeling to stay here instead of remodeling to move. Mainly because my dad is sick.
By Fenderputty Go To PostHow was Lowes? lol
We were there for two hours looking at fucking toilets and a sink...
I'd tile literally every room if i ever built.
Hardwood floors regularly aren't airtight, which makes AC / Heating less optimal.
Carpet is a god damn trap for allergens
You can put down rugs, that you can throw out/wash, in bedrooms.
You can just wear slippers, anyway.
I don't let my pets inside the house.

If you're that picky about cold floors get some rugs. Carpets just hold in so much damn dirt and dander.
Yeah. And with how much time kids spend in their bedrooms these days, they just ruin carpet anyway. Spilling stuff everywhere etc.
I know my parents replaced the carpet at our house 3 times in the end. And dad deeply regrets not just tiling the rooms after the last time.

Yeah tiling is a bit heavy in some places and pricey but at the very least hardwood, vinyl over carpet all day every day. Was looking at some vinyl recently and it comes in all kinds of textures and styles now.
I have laminate flooring in my house and I'm pretty happy with it. I would have preferred hardwood, but seeing as my house is raised and doesn't have a literal rock-solid foundation under the floor, I wanted something with a little flex in it. It looks close enough to actual wood that it reaches the "good enough" threshold for me.
That feel when you hit the gym twice and played football in one day.
That feel when you can't fucking sleep because you've still got energy.
Should have probably timed my 24 hour fast so it didn't break at 10pm.

Bought some ergonomic stuff to train myself proper posture. The idea is to use them as intended and then lessen my dependence on the gear as I develop muscle memory and strength to maintain the posture unassisted.
My mouse wrist isn't a problem, yet, but I got a brace for when I use my standard gaming one. Got a keyboard wrist rest to use as a guide for when my wrists dip too low (I'm not actually putting pressure on it as that would defeat the purpose). Also got a back and shoulder brace to teach me what correct posture feels like.

Working for a Mortgage company in a down economy is rough. 11 people have been offboarded (released) in the past 2 days.
I'm still there, so that's a positive.

By Smokey Go To PostThe economy is…down? It depends on how you interpret it. House purchasing is down because not enough people are making enough money for a house purchase to be feasible.

Or, California.
The economy is far from down. It's just that other places don't ask you to cough up $1.5 million for a house and act like it's normal.
By Smokey Go To PostOr, California.Housing costs have been outstripping average purchasing power all over the country. It's not just a California thing.

House affordability is a huge thing. It's just that in the US you combine it with tertiary education costs and the older generation are basically pillaging the next generations financial stability.
Several politicians have tried to alter the tertiary education stuff here. It's become political suicide though.
By Kibner Go To PostHousing costs have been outstripping average purchasing power all over the country. It's not just a California thing. On average all over the country but it's a highly regional thing (not just California though). Rising interest rates are hurting too. It's bad in the metro area of Utah right now.
I've been looking at houses as we want to move to a house and have kids.
Not sure how i can afford a house let alone kids and a house.

Yeah but California's pricing exaggerates that even further with cost of living etc. The average home price is $440,000 vs $185,000 in Texas for example, that's a huge gap. The average family has a much more realistic change of getting a house here than they do over there.

Because, in his business, it kind of is.
I don't think people would complain about a house only costing $440k
