I'm not saying they're wrong necessarily, I'm saying a lot of it is pretty simplified and a lot of people would do well if not better with a lot of "non-meta" weapons if they gave them a chance. A lot of the meta stuff will hinge on playing a very specific way.
its really hard not to watch PC gameplay of D2 and be like : the fuck am I playing on console for again?

Nah, I'll say it, streamer culture has been poison to this game. People just parrot and signal-boost streamer bullshit which eventually affects how Bungle tunes the game.

Got the pulse, scout, the rocket launcher and the armour, I’m so done with Iron Banner. They just don’t seem to be able to balance teams, almost every game is a blowout. And it’s doing insane things like starting a match and giving me one person on my side while there are 4 on the other side. How does that even happen?
There’s no doubt. They’ll likely wait for the next gen, and even then they might not be able to launch until they’re a year in like they did with D1. It’s not impossible that they do two more years of D2.

Dominant pulses like VW, GL, the new raid one? That TV video on the last page had him saying it was shotgun rushers. It seems like there’s actually a whole bunch of powerful options in almost every weapon class.

By Dark PhaZe Go To Postyall can't be naming year 3 Iron Banner guns as though every roll known to man for a gun archetype hadn't already been discovered lolNah, Clever Dragon was absolutely legit. At the time, a max stability Grasp of Malok god roll was best in that archetype. But the dragon could drop with better perks - high caliber rounds was the deadliest thing at the time - and it had faster draw + ads & better bullet magnetism.
ppl were grinding for clever dragons despite having the same exact guns in the vault
" Bruh fuk the numbers trust me this shit got an edge"
I remember this well because of how many times I had to blow Omnigul’s head off to get my perfect Grasp, and how annoyed I was that everyone had something slightly better 2 days into RoI Iron Banner, especially because it kinda looked like junk.
By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostHow do I aquire Masterwork cores? Is it really just up to rng?RNG and you can buy them off Spider for shards. Starts at 10 and doubles each consecutive buy. Resets everyday back to 10.
By EldritchTrapStar Go To PostHow do I aquire Masterwork cores? Is it really just up to rng? You'll be able to buy them from Spider in exchange for Legendary Shards, but they become exponentially expensive until it resets.
The IB pulse & scout are pretty fun. My scout rolled with exploding bullets. My pulse dropped with full auto, which is always junk but with this rof + firing pattern it kinda works.
... I take it back. Full auto on a pulse is still never the way. Into the novelty bin it goes. The scout can stay though, it’s pretty boss.

the meta is always pretty clear imo. from the range that encounters primarily occur at, to the nature of those encounters, and then the weapons/abilities that excel most in those situations. shotguns will always dominate close range. and the only reason they stopped is because of how bungie 'balances' them by simply removing their ammo from the game lol. every point in time where a shotgun has been usable, its been the definitive solution for all close range/rushdown styles.
when it comes to ranges, snipers, rockets, GLs - again, bungie balances this with the blunt instrument of ammo. once that leaves the table, you're left with ttk, ease of use, etc against the most common counter play. that's not meta, that's just basic how-to in a FPS.
like faze said, this game is balanced as fuck right now. there's nothing dominant in the game at all. no crossmap thorns, no two tap hopscotch pilgrims, just good weapons in general to spread out over the same gameplay that's pretty much been the same since fusion rifles died for the greater good of us all
Guess I got lucky on powerful gear. Made a jump from 530 PL to 542 PL in 2 days. Still have the same element strike and heroic story missions for weeklies to do.
There is no 'meta' I have been murdered time and time again by every gun type and archetype going.
I have been lucky enough to not have come up against 1000 voices
I have been lucky enough to not have come up against 1000 voices
the only time a meta really shines out is at the top of the top of the top and that's why balancing for trials has always been a disaster
either way, destiny's never really had to deal with a "if you don't have this, then don't expect to win" weapon or a "if i see x class on my team at the start, i'm quitting" subclass
there's playing smart and efficient, sure. maybe even great weapons that some people can get the most out of. but the guns ain't gonna shoot themselves. if you can't control a vigilance wing, you may as well be playing with handicap

The biggest thing to me is just how much people don't utilize the space they're in and wanna just fire at people with anything with no spatial or situational awareness about the map, their team mates, where the other opponents are, spawns, etc etc
The lack of spatial awareness is down to a lot of maps being awkward and tight, trying to disengage from a no-win encounter can be impossible.
Oh let's not forget the narrow af fov on consoles, man, do many times me and an opponent would be standing next to each other and neither of us would know. Except the the radar going nuts.

Nah I'm talking like people just straight up bumping into people with their character, generally not aware of the range of weapons, not paying attention to lines of sight and how much of them is actually exposed. And I'm not a fan of D2 maps.

It sounds like we’re saying the same thing. People are always complaining about a narrowly defined meta like the game is wildly tilted towards a few weapons and everyone’s using them (I have seen the “everyone’s using the same thing” argument so many times the last two weeks around the web) but that’s just not the case.
Meta from the Greek refers to something beyond, and as I understand it in gaming generally seems to indicate a second set of rules beyond the game the masses are playing, applying to the dominance and necessary counter plays of a few things. But when like you say there’s viable stuff in just about every category (you mention poor old fusions but I still get Telesto’d on a daily basis) that’s kind of just the game itself. For sure there are some elite weapons, but it’s not like the days when if you wanted to be really good your choices were Last Word or Hawkmoon or a death screen.
I do think you’re right about shotguns though, it is almost impossible to take them out of your loadout, especially now that there’s multiple available for the first slot. I’ve never understood why Bungie’s always been married to making them so prevalent, unless their data really shows that players like them so much it’s a selling point for the game.

Players may now progress the “Cayde’s Will” quest step by defeating either invaders or general enemies with Hand Cannons

Quest is probably less about helping people to exotics and more about getting people back into Gambit/having Gambit be less crappy. Some quests break multiplayer. Also forgot, the wording was shit so people were just camping the portal to go to the other side over and over. Between it and Chaperone just ugh.

Played in an Era stack for IB and I lost track of our winning streak lol. We won at least 15 straight.

I know there is a lot to do, but the Gahl campaign is short af. Lmao. Deadass thought there was more to it, considering that it's Bungie (I didn't play Destiny 1). So, the other stuff is in a season pass? I thought it was the full thing 😂 (ps+). Oh well, I'm working through strikes now. Close to being able to do night strikes. I think I'm 10 levels away.
I've kind of settled into using pulse rifles and bows. Just learning not to die on the pvp maps. Jfc, some of these are hard to learn anything on, because there is so much geometry everywhere and everything has like 30 entrances. Kind of stunned at the lack of verticality, considering the movement options. Also, why am I only seeing control and clash, in qp? Didn't this lot make the Halo games? Wtf happened to the game type diversity?

Just know that D1 vanilla campaign was much, much worse lol.
And there are other game types, but behind the comp playlist. Wish they had specific gametype lists but it seems everyone is off that wave now.
You're also well on your way to being a destiny elitist by pointing out the lack of verticality in the map design lol. For a game with as many movement options as this, they seem to hate the idea of getting around using anything other than an open walkway.

The gambit maps have a lot of verticality. I wonder where the change came from and how theyd play in 6 v 6
As a observer of this thread, are yall aware of how the vernacular sounds to non destiny people? Throwing around names like Glass of Stone Mountain, or Gatekeepers Row or some shit without even batting an eye. Y'all deep init.
