Halo 5 does run at a dynamic resolution, so that should look a lot better on Scorpio, at least.
I just hope the games are there. They have to come out at E3 and announce good exclusives that are less Halo 6 and Forza 7 and more like Sunset Overdrive and Ori. They have to try and get back to the Xbox-to-mid-360 days of Microsoft Studios and put out some weird stuff.

My boy Phil handled the mid gen refresh proper and as best he could from double agent Mattrick. UHD drive and everything else posted about the Scorpio improvements.
Gonna have to get by on ultimate third party versions of games until next gen
Halo 6 coming to PC so I don't really fuking care either way

By reilo Go To PostHalo 5 ran at 60FPS for things nearby but objects in the distance ran at 30FPS.yeah this never really bothered me
If they have any brains Halo 5 will be coming with an ODST esque expansion as a scorpio launch title.

That's my favorite one in the series.

I actually think MS is better off than Nintendo in that comparison. MS can still pull big titles from non-US Publishers like Square or Namco as long they think something's got an audience there. Their bridges are largely burned with the smaller devs who would likely come back around if they thought there was money in it.
Nintendo's bridges are burned because they offer smaller margins for 3rd parties and have technological limitations that mean those games look better everywhere else. They won't be hamstrung by Power PC this gen, but the cartridge format means they're still swimming upstream for the EAs of the world.

By reilo Go To PostI don't believe that you walked away for $300 with just a vanilla Switch. How much did you drop on accessories?Bought a pro controller that I really didn't need, and Zelda. Still cheaper than this shit. I guess one benefit of the Scorpio is that you don't have to buy any games?
By Laboured Go To PostAn ambitious insult when the Switch has only one game worth buying.
Blaster Master makes me jelly.

That's not something someone openly admits.

Yup, Binding of Isaac is fucking great.
By reilo Go To PostWait, are you arguing that Switch has better games than Xbox?Puyo Puyo Tetris is better than any Xbox One exclusive.
I am joking...
...or am I?
By Laboured Go To PostThat's not something someone openly admits.
Wut.
The original is a legit revered classic. Retronauts just devoted a whole episode to the series. The new one's not going to sell me a Switch, but I'd totally check it out if it was on a system I had.

While this is probably true, there is an Xbone version of it.

Fine, I'll seek it out, but if it doesn't have cover mechanics or sweet slow motion stealth takedowns I'm gunna be pissed.

I legit loled.
It was a 3DS release that hit at the same time as the Switch, and since it's a remake of a well-liked (at least in the West) NES classic Nintendo let them do a quick port. Your enjoyment of it will likely be proportional to your love of 8-bit style games.
But hey, it's only $9.99.
By reilo Go To PostWait, are you arguing that Switch has better games than Xbox?No I was facetiously saying that you wouldn't need to buy new games with your Scorpio because presumably you'd already have Xbox one games.

You people

Naw
You showing out right now when the only game worth playing on that Tegra is a upscaled Wii U port
Whatever that's what I meant, but maybe I could have been more clear. Have fun with your 500$ graphics whore badge of honor. Hopefully this incremental upgrade shit doesn't catch on.
By masud Go To PostWhatever that's what I meant, maybe I could have been more clear. Have fun with your 500$ graphics whore badge of honor. Hopefully this incremental upgrade shit doesn't catch on.Nintendo started that trend with their portables going back to the Game Boy Color, though. I'm pretty sure it's here to stay.
To be fair the Gameboy color was an actual new system who's game weren't hamstrung by having to be able to run on its predecessor. It also came out 10 years after the Gameboy. It was fuckery but this Scorpio shit is a whole new kind of fuckery.
GBA and GBA Lite. DS and its mid-gen replacement with more power and online store. 3DS and 3DS XL, also with more power.
By Kibner Go To PostGBA and GBA Lite. DS and its mid-gen replacement with more power and online store. 3DS and 3DS XL, also with more power.I never said Nintendo wasn't on some shit with their gba and ds revisions they definitely were. I bought a DS the day before those fuckers announced the DS lite. That was the last Nintendo handheld I ever bought untill the Switch. The Gameboy color was a bad example though that's all. But why are we talking about Nintendo? I didn't bring them up.
You said you were "hop[ing] this incremental upgrade shit doesn't catch on." I was just pointing out that it already has and has been very successful over at least the last decade.
It's not the same. Even if it was bringing Nintendos handheld fuckery to the console space is not something we should be cool with.
And the 64DD or whatever it was called that never came out of Japan. Though I know so little about it that it may not qualify for being an upgrade.
By diehard Go To PostGC -> Wii -> Wii U was basically incremental upgrades with new accessories attachedThought came across my mind but I didn't wanna say it but it's true.
Those things are even less similar to the Scorpio? When I said incremental upgrades I was talking about new console releases. I still don't even understand why were discussing Nintendo.
By reilo Go To PostHow's it a new console release it plays the same games? That's my whole fucking point! I'm done have fun guys.

This is going to be its third e3? Jesus.
By Kibner Go To PostAnd the 64DD or whatever it was called that never came out of Japan. Though I know so little about it that it may not qualify for being an upgrade.
64 DD was almost amazing. It was initially only available via a subscription service called Randnet that was Xbox Live before Xbox Live. It provided online play, monthly games (delivered physically), file sharing, chat rooms etc. Unfortunately it was too soon and nobody subscribed, apparently there are only about 15 000 DDs out there in the wild.
The device itself does count as an upgrade add on, but it doesn't do a whole lot for performance. The disks had more storage and were writeable, and there were sound fonts stored in the hardware (the F-Zero game for it is like getting punched in the face with synth guitar samples), but not much beyond that.
The Gameboy/GBA/DS Lite hardware revisions were pretty limited, mostly making mechanical changes. DSi did have more horsepower, but it was mostly to allow for its online functionality/store and camera.
New 3DS has more horsepower, but I can only think of 2 or 3 games that really use it to improve performance (Hyrule Warriors is the one game that really needs it, apparently it barely runs on a standard 3DS).
By & large, I'm actually totally fine with hardware upgrades & add-ons. I think it's a minor tragedy that that Sony/Nintendo SNES CD add on never happened (though apparently that didn't really add any horsepower either). And even the primarily hardware revisions are welcome - the GBA SP is the definitive version of that system imo. The DSi was a lot nicer to use than the clunky original too.
I wish PS4 Pro went further...and looked less shitty. But it's the right idea. Scorpio I can at least appreciate is trying to go balls-out.
Pro feels/felt like flexing. Clearly VR motivated, but maybe even tightening the foot on the throat.
Scorpio is a Hail Mary. If it flops badly this holiday, MS is going to have to really take a look at their gaming business. I certainly think we'll hear rumblings of the next proper Xbox before we hear what Sony plans for PS5, though they'll likely come out concurrently.
