The 135 IQ play right now would be to sell your 4090 for stupid money, stash half of it and use the other half to get yourself a 4080 Super.
Then, in a year, it's 5090 time.

I think kinda?
Was trying to do some game streaming from my PC to macbook, was having a much worse time than I had on my iPhone or iPad, which was odd given the mac is the much newer device and has 6e.
Looked in to it and was getting weird ping spikes when pinging my router.
Turns out that macos runs a lot of its airdrop and airplay stuff over wifi constantly, even if you're not using them. It also uses a few preset channels instead of whatever channel you're connected to your router on.
It'll swap channel every few seconds to handle that, then go back, causing random spikes.
Fixed by changing the channel on my router to one that the mac also uses for the backhaul and everything is clean, but that feels like some terrible hidden gremlin-ing from Apple

Very gross, might speak to why I started having really bad PS Remote Play and Xbox Streaming performance as of a year or so ago

Kib-chan, you have to get over this OLED phobia. Save for a bit longer if you have to and then treat yourself to a self-emissive monitor.

Introducing LSFG 1.0 - a universal frame generator that can be used for most games and not only. Designed from the ground up using machine learning to run on a wide range of GPUs, including integrated graphics cards. Can be used with or without scaling.
The recommended minimum to have the best quality is 60 FPS in a game and a 120 Hz monitor, but it can also be used in a combination of 30 FPS and 60 Hz in some games at a resolution of up to 1080p.
In the current state of LSFG, the game MUST be locked to half your monitor's refresh rate for proper frame pacing.
this has been my computer the past 12hrs or so.
rendering VFX projects and training models at the same time.
I can't even watch a youtube video without stuttering lol.
i think my next build will be just be a dedicated rig for rendering and deep learning.
RTX 5000 and 15th gen Intels can't come soon enough.

Have you thought about using a NAS and 10 or 25G connection to your computer for storage? You wouldn't want anything relying on low-latency (like games), but could help you have large, fast, and resilient data storage for your rendering. Would let you have far more storage than you are currently able to hold inside your workstation.
e: you might also benefit from a Threadripper, Epyc, or maybe even one of the newer Intel server chips than a consumer CPU, too. Costs more money, of course, but they also offer something absurd like 256 threads

gonna need to do a deep dive on it, any documentation and tutorials would be greatly appreciated.

The Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX has 96c/192t and the Epyc 9754 has 128c/256t. These are expensive platforms, for sure, but your workload seems like one that can actually benefit from them.

Diehard might might be able to recommend you a prepackaged thing. I'm not overly familiar with that side. You will want to use something that has, at minimum, a 10G ethernet output because 4k footage can saturate a 2.5G interface.
A big benefit of using a NAS is that you can also implement some redundancy in your storage solution such that if a disc dies, you usually won't lose any data while you quickly source a replacement drive. You would still want off-site backups for anything important because it is still possible to lose your data in a catastrophic failure or if your house catches fire or something.
This seems to be a decent primer for your particular use-case: https://nascompares.com/2021/05/31/buying-a-nas-for-video-editing-get-it-right-first-time/
By Kabro Go To Postgonna have to do a lot of soul searching and forum readings to justify the cost.Time is money for you, I'm sure. You would have to figure out if they would pay themselves off in a reasonable amount of time compared to consumer platforms. Also, those are the very top end. They also come with side benefits of more PCIe lanes and support more memory than consumer CPUs.
If you don't go with a NAS or DAS, getting a HEDT or server platform with the extra PCIe lanes will let you get more storage for your system at full speed, too. Let you throw together a smaller storage array of high-speed SSDs inside your case with no speed bottleneck.
An early impression from one of Dells new OLED monitors:
Now that the embargoes are lifted, I can post that the AW3225QF is the best monitor I've ever used in my life. Still working on a full review but jesus christ this thing looks good, and it doesn't use a power brick. I would buy one just for day-to-day work if I could swing $1,200, it's bright enough to use for spreadsheets/word docs and doesn't rapidly fluctuate in brightness depending on what's onscreen like other OLED monitors I've tried in the past.
That's the first to market with a 3rd gen QD-OLED panel. I think the HP Omen won't have a curved screen so I might look at picking one up. I've been on ultrawide since 2014 and not sure i want to go back to 16:9.
All the WOLED ultrawides being matte and a ridiculous curve is disappointing

Im not a fan of OLED.
IPS still does a better job at color accuracy and color uniformity.
that why studios still use a very expensive IPS vs a OLED for color reference.

Only tangentially PC related, finally built my desk.
Used a walnut worktop as the table top, osmo oil to seal it, added some screw-on legs so I can take it apart easily (my office is also the guest room)
Pretty happy with it, but I do wish I had gone _slightly_ bigger in both dimensions, especially depth, since the monitor arm pushes the screen away from the wall a bit more than I wanted
Anybody got one of those cheaper VA panel 21:9 monitors? I see a few different brands in the £/$300-400 range. Kinda tempted to try one since I’ve never used an ultrawide monitor and I feel completely downgraded currently.
My CX55 had been relegated to a bedroom TV. My back-up monitor is a 240hz/1080p/TN 24inch. I mean it’s still a decent monitor but it just doesn’t feel right to have such a small screen at the desk nowadays.

Congrats to my 42" LG C2 on its 1st anniversary. One year since I've forever ridden myself of the blight on image quality that is IPS / LCD.
Vapes-san, I've only ever heard not so great things about cheap / non-Samsung VA panels. You get excellent* contrast and in return you're cursed with horrible pixel response times, which lead to very noticeable black smearing during gaming and other fast moving content. It was an always cited issue even with 1500€+ miniLED VA gaming monitors when I was researching ultrawides for my little brother a while back, must be that much worse with near-bottom of the barrel VA panels.
Plenty of people seem okay with the tech though, so I can see such a purchase end up being a decent multiuse monitor.
