I'm loving the Porsche. It's not McLaren fast, but it's still very spritely.
I'm going to mod it, though. Spoke to a local Porsche dealer, and they're good with me doing some downpipes.

Speaking of, my tires finally came in so I’ve been able to drive my 718 again. Such a fucking blast. Love it.
I can't remember if I read it here or elsewhere, but driving stick really makes you more aware of how yourself and other people are driving. I especially have to pay more attention to what is going on when I am starting from a dead stop because getting off the line is a step slower than doing the same with an automatic. It's also easier to pick up on the acceleration/deceleration rates of others, too, because it can affect what gear you need to be in when cruising.
Going from driving an auto for months while waiting for tires for the Cayman and then hopping back in the 718 really just confirmed why I love driving stick so much. It's just an enjoyable activity and a skill that I feel I can improve at. It feels so satisfying to go through the process of shifting gears with the clutch and coordinating it all to be smooth no matter which gear you are jumping from and to. Driving in stop-and-go traffic is the one big drawback for me, when it comes to entertainment.

It's not surprising. People view driving as a chore (it 98% of the time is, in part due to our infrastructure and everything else we won't get into) so they go for cars that are as much of an appliance as everything. Appliances aren't supposed to make you think, and not wanting to pay attention behind the wheel is the point.
I truly wish we'd crack down on distracted driving more. So many people still on their cellphones. Can't do that with a manual.

Yep. In the 911, I can't look or text on my phone. It has an auto-respond feature via Android Auto, so I'll have it read a text for me and just respond with some generic shit by pressing 1 button on the screen. At any point in time, I feel like I'll have have to shift or brake suddenly, etc. I just don't feel comfortable looking at my phone for more than 2 seconds with traffic around me.
Stick for life. Auto and paddles felt like part of the driving experience was being taken away from me.
You'd be surprised. So many idiots in the UK are on their phones driving manual. And as you can imagine, the driving gets dangerous. It's a real problem, to the point I wouldn't mind licenses being lost if you're the sort of cunt that needs to pull a phone out whilst driving your 2+ tonne deathbox. No need for it. If it's important, pull over and stop being a fucking danger to everyone.
