By cashmanI can't believe Linklater didn't win that one.
Same; terrible, terrible decision. Iñárritu hiring a great cinematographer is not on the same level as what Linklater did.
edit: that sounds a bit simplistic, which is unfair. but eh.
By nathanThere's something I really don't like about Redmayne. Not sure what it is.Highly punchable face.
Who couldn't predict that the prediction joke would fall completely flat?
NPH should fire the writers for this year.

Sigh. Another year where something relatively unremarkable in the grand scheme of things wins. Just a bit disappointing.
I always feel like kids in 50 years might look back and decide "let's watch all the best picture winners at the Oscars, for the most acclaimed, amazing films in history"... and there's far too many which don't feel like that. I'll stop caring by next year
i hope

By Apolloim going to watch it for the editing tooBy viakadoim going to have to watch Whiplash now.
I might watch it for the editing but I have a feeling it's going to be a lot of fast cuts from drums to people to other things. Modern editing sucks yo.
seriously cutting fast is easy.
I actually really really like Birdman, but for all that work to be put into Boyhood and for it to go home with only one award tonight is a travesty imo.

a play off of that rap he did at the Tonys a few years ago
except not impressive. or funny. at all.
Boyhood should have won Best pic.
Anyone else should have won best Actor.
Glad Lubezki won even thought Birdman might be one of his weakest films. Deserves 5 more for the Tree of Life snub.
It's all meaningless though.
I still like movies.

VanDerWerff pretty much sums up how I feel here - http://www.vox.com/2015/2/23/8088351/oscars-best-picture-birdman?utm_campaign=vox&utm;_content=chorus&utm;_medium=social&utm;_source=twitter
Honestly the biggest issue is that people hold the Oscar's in too high regard. Everybody claims they don't care, yet in argument they will fall back on the best picture award being evidence of quality.
It isn't. It's a bunch of old dudes opinions. And by the sound of it, I watch more movies in a year than them. I probably spend more time thinking about them. It is all so meaningless. The only people who should care are distributers because if their film wins they can slap it on the dvd case.

It should be a barometer of quality though innit. Like I say, kids interested in learning about film in years to come will likely look at the films that won best picture, and they'll see that tripe like The Artist or Driving Miss Daisy was recognised as the best of the year.
"'Man,' they think, 'they must be great."
but we know the truth dont we weedle

It's becoming less and less important. Like, most people our age don't rely on the Oscar's to tell them what movies they should watch. I agree that it would be nice if they were a barometer of quality, but just looking at the demographics of the academy and you know it's worthless.
All dem snubs yo
I love Disney and I liked BH6, but in no world that film was better than Kaguya.
Happy for Luzbeki. But Linklater should have won director over Innaratu. Wes Anderson should have won for script. And either Boyhood or GBH should have been picked over Birdman imo.
At least American Sniper didn't win big.

I'm also glad American Sniper won nothing, fuck that film.
