What's wrong with Grosjean and Haas in general this year?
Their development seems to fall off after good starts as other teams improve. They buy from Ferrari and dallara.
They'll have a hard time in 2018 too. Renault is progressing, McLaren is dumping Honda, even Sauber will have a similar ferrari B team-ish deal.
Hola, new to the forum, but I like F1 so this seemed like a natural starting point.
Is this where I place my conspiracy theories on how the FIA is in the pocket of Big Ferrari?
Thought it was a good race on Sunday, pretty entertaining throughout. Lots of good movement in the midfield and seeing Verstappen push until the very end kept things fun. I couldn't help but feel that he went over the kerb and in a sense it's a shame he was singled out for it. They really need to sort out their consistency for next year. It shouldn't matter if the [action] is for 3rd or 19th, the rules are the rules and they either need to be changed or enforced.

Kvyat dropped by Scuderia Toro Rosso, permanently (en.f1i.com)
Hope he can have a decent career elsewhere, he's good enough for DTM or LMP.
Daniil Kvyat won't be returning to Formula 1, at least not with Toro Rosso says Red Bull motorsport boss Helmut Marko. It seems to me they kept him dangling for far too long. The release could be cathartic for him.
The 23-year-old Russian, who started 72 races in his almost four-year F1 career, has pretty much been on probation ever since he was demoted from Red Bull Racing to the Faenza-based squad in May 2016.
Kvyat was dropped by the Milton Keynes outfit to make way for Max Verstappen. His results with Toro Rosso have been inconsistent, prompting Marko to bench the driver after Singapore this year to evaluate Pierre Gasly.
Hartley and Gasly confirmed at Toro Rosso for Mexico!
Kvyat owed his return in Austin with Toro Rosso to the fact that future engine supplier Honda asked Gasly to race in the finale of the Super Formula series in Japan.
Despite the Russin's good showing at the Circuit of the Americas, Toro Rosso confirmed earlier this week the presence of Brendon Hartley and Gasly in Mexico, leaving Kvyat once out in the cold.
"Kvyat will not return again," Marko told Germany's Auto Bild.
"We do not believe he can make the turnaround in the long term."
Marko also confirmed that the Hartley-Gasly pairing would remain in place for the final three races of 2017.
"Gasly and Hartley will finish the season," he said. "Then we'll see what happens."
Hope he can have a decent career elsewhere, he's good enough for DTM or LMP.
Crazy thing is, Kyvat is only 23! Agree with the above, I can see him being great in Indy as well if he wants to remain in open wheel racing. I wonder if it's too late for him to find a Formula E seat as well.
I wonder if Toro Rosso is really looking at Hartley for a full time seat next year or if they're prepping for Galeal (if he gets his superlicence?) for '18.

Just means Verstappen will win at Mexico.
Kyvat got thrown under the Verstappen bus, maybe he could have won the Spain race after the Mercs crashed out too. He just didn't show much at TR to build back up and f1 is ruthless.
Maybe he gets on with formula e or indycar or something.

I expect Honda leaned on them a bit as well. It's no secret they want as fresh of a start as possible.
Also an interesting coincidence that Hartley was expected to be joining Ganassi in Indycar, which is a Honda team.

Hmm, that is interesting. I definitely think Honda has some say now in who drives at STR for sure.

How about that lol
Galeal probably bought this FP1 session months ago. It's just really stupid when TR has two new drivers that need all the practice they can get.
Maybe they do, but they don't have any real Honda drivers available. Hartley was a former redbull young driver and said he called them about the seat.

Joe Saward has a blog up talking about (amongst other things) the future of F1. Fairer revenue-sharing, $150m budget cap and expanding the grid to 12 teams seemed particularly interesting.
Feel bad for KYV. Seems like a good guy, just not a great driver for RBR.
Hopefully HAR will show some good pace, but he will most likely be changed.
Really excited about some young blood in F1.

Well we've recently got Verstappen, Ocon, Stroll, and Wehrlein. Ferrari is possibly going to have two of their young drivers at Sauber next year too.
We are nearing the end and for the next race we head over the wall to Mexico for the Formula 1 Gran Premio de México in Mexico City.
Still not decided if leaving that last corner out and replacing it with the unique stadium section is a good or bad thing for the racing (probably a bit better, as following other car in high speed corners is far worse), but it does provide an atmosphere like no were else on the F1 calender. An other characteristic of this track is its altitude (2000 m +) which menas a low downforce lay-out becomes a high/max downforce track, yet the cars still produce less downforce than a Monza. Low downforce high speed is Mercdes, more downforce on car suited Ferrari and RBR was quit good at Monza/Baku, so curious to see who comes out on top of this "altitude" race. (money on Merc/Lewis)
With Lewis only needing only a 5th place finish to secure his 4th world title things have to go really peer shaped for him not to secure it here, but ask Sebastian how quickly things can turn around ;)
After last weeks corner drama and with last years race in mind, FIA added some Orange kerbs (verstappentjes) to some corners, to prevent cutting the 1st corner and last years podium drama. In before "its to dangerous" complaints and the FIA having to replace them again :( But can they stop Max winning his 3rd GP, logic says no with an other demotion for Kvyatt. ;)
In the beginning Max was the RBR13, luck seams to have switched garage boxes and DannyRic could use some. He could use a good race on Sunday, hope for him his engine pool is big enough for him to not have to start at the back, he could repeat lats years performance (early forced stop --> podium).
And since we are in Mexico city it is a home race for Sergio, who like DannyRic, could use a good result --> beating Ocon again on track instead of the team radio. Not the only Mecican this weekend as Alfonso Celis also gets another FP run-out.
And not hard to miss, but its Dia de los Muertos in a few days, love the (skull)masks !
And first FP session starts in 3 hours, so still some time for killing more nazi scum.
By Spengo Go To PostCheers m8Then we start dreaming about next season and before you know its wintertesting :P
We only have 3 weekends of F1 open cockpit racing left :(
First red flag of the weekend goes to ...
And we need more "verstappentjes", for the next corner ;)
Nah, looks like rear wing first and Buxton trying to create a bit of drama.
Strange that RBR for the 2nd weekend in a row has one car that needs a major set-up change, which mean they loose a lot of FP1 time, curious what they are doing/testing?
Not to much in it, Mercedes looks good but Max did only one lap on reds (Celis red flag) and Ferrari is always seam to be a bit slower at the beginning of a weekend (lately).

Perhaps even a new gearbox casing with different or adjusted rear suspension geometry.

Two weeks in a row now same explanation, big set-up change when the rest of the year it did not happen in FP1 get my tinfoil hat senses going ;)
Lets see if we can learn a bit more from FP2 long runs about this weeks balance between the teams.
Poor overlay designer :P
High downforce set-ups, but still low on grip the Lewis version, just kept it out of the wall, but tires gone (no long runs on it)
Vettel burning his ass, fire fire extinguisher ?
Stroll low grip, touching wall

It's been a long three years, but that many failed components is insane really. Honda isn't even fast either.
and that's another Renault engine gone, lucky for Max and old one and not his new race engine from last week :phew:
LH and the two Red bull's race pace looks much better than anyone else.
VER practice engine died, apparently. Luckily not a racing engine. Edit: beaten

Yeah, that US long run by Lewis was great ("no" wear at all), just no clue how it will compare to the RBR guys ( short run & they were faster, but no idea about their wear). Ferrari need to find some pace, but we have said that before on a Friday ;)
And interview with Max on Sky indeed new parts for next year in FP1, not telling what,, so still no wiser ;)

Yeah, the Honda McLaren reliability is truly something else :p
Lets see if one of the teams (Fer) have found something overnight, 3 horse race would be nice
[edit[ Lets not give Renault a free pass, because they have been dreadful as well

Gasly has a brand new MGU-H in the car. He's done a total of 11 laps this weekend. He'll get a 15 place grid penalty.
If there was no Honda in F1 they would be under PR disaster.

Pole battle is going to be intense. Finding the tyre window is tough. Trying not balance the temperatures across front and rear, might even required 2 outlaps. Easy to push slightly too hard through a lap and run wide once which ruins a lap.
Its a bit hotter this afternoon, but getting tire to work in first few corners could indeed be crucial. Engine mode will help fraction less here, but could still be enough to get Lewis one more pole. But right now its a 5 driver (kimi slight around a bit to much, so he needs to find a little time) battle for pole, been a while since we have had that.....great!!

This qualify is turning up to be the best in quite sometime lads
Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes looking good
Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes looking good
That's the usual suspects + Gasly (engine), Haas has never looked good on high downforce, out in first part of qualifying
That's the usual suspects + Honda engines ;)
The team that gets the tires working seams to have the best bet for pole, Max lap because yellow for Hartley was so much better than the last one.

%^$%^$ Sebastian., but mega lap, Max just did not get all his best sectors together(27.1/19,6 in Q2), nut gonna be a great race start :P
Ocon Mega in Mexico and nr2 drivers in top teams disappoint, fair enough Bottas was OK, but was a bit quicker during this weekend.

Should be an exciting first corner.
Kimi and Ric humiliated. A bit of a return to form for Bottas. Seb and Max on a different planet compared to everybody else today, though.

It's sad seeing Ferrari waste a car with Kimi. Another year of this too.
By Fox Mulder Go To PostIt's sad seeing Ferrari waste a car with Kimi. Another year of this too. There is clearly some significant season-to-season variability in his performance. Didn't Kimi beat Vettel in qualifying in 2016?
By Spengo Go To PostThere is clearly some significant season-to-season variability in his performance. Didn't Kimi beat Vettel in qualifying in 2016?There is no real reason, other than Ferrari being the only team favouring a clear nr1 and nr2 driver, aka Kimi gets a seat. For next season there is also no top driver on the market, so they give him another one year contract and probably finally look elsewhere for 2019. (DannyRic, LeClerc probably not experienced enough for them, anything but another year of Kimi mediaocracy please)
And think RBR did the smart move with better chances for the next two races after poor Q from DannyRic
