Just don't really know, if he lost those few tenths he's a point scorer and upgrade on Palmer. If he still can perform as he did in his Jr career and "prior" F1 (for me Just behind Lewis and ahead of Nico R.) he's going to challenge Hulk. Guess if test goes well we will see next season, as I cannot see Palmer in F1 for an other season.
And for those wondering why all those silly flaps are on cars and wing exits out of so many small parts, Motorsport.com has been doing some interesting videos with Scarborough talking to William Voet (fer/benneton aero specialist) .

If you're signing a pay driver like Palmer, to some degree performance doesn't matter as long as the team is getting paid on time. It's only an issue now because Hulkenberg is showing just how good that car can be this season. The real question here is what is the difference between the cash Palmer brings and the number of positions they'd make up with another Hulkenberg in the 2nd car.
We are in Hungary for the 11th race of the season, the Pirelli MAGYAR NAGYDÍJ 2017 at the Hungaroring.
Last year Lewis was dominant and Mercedes the car to beat, but Ferrari has been better this year at chassis/aero tracks, so maybe or RBR can bring the fight to them.
Weather forecast is hot, hot, hotter.....that could bring some problems for the tires and or the cooling required for these conditions
And Ferrari showing (me :O) that F1 still also can bring a smile to the face of little girls
And Giovinazzi doing his best to show he might not be ready yet ';)
Mercedes guys were doing their times earleir on in the session, track got clean/faster, but still nice to see a RBR challenging, at least the Ferrari's
And Palmer lads, doing his best to ...........................

FP2 Wehrlein ............."I crashed - massive"
Palmer, nope...........not a guy under pressure :P
Top 3 teams look close, but they have been before on a Friday. Having sad that, long runs also looked closely matched and supersofts do not seem to last forever (2 stops?)

Ferrari unleashing the stallion, not sure if Mercedes can find anything in the next two hours, otherwise Ferrai pole for me. Yesterdays man DannyRic hitting battery problems and could not really do a quick lap, but gap looks to big. And Hulk vs Alonso for best of the rest trophy. And it looks like Felipe is ill, so that could be Paul diResta in the car for Q., without a single lap in that car, GL ;) .................decisions not made yet
By Spengo Go To PostInb4 Di Resta out qualifies StrollNot going to happen, with a few FP session different bet ;)
So far gaps smaller as expected, but still Q1
Magnussen unlucky there, respect for diResta no practice lap in these cars and only 0.7 of Stroll and faster than one of the Saubers
DiResta's progress over his five flying laps - 1m22.289s, 1m21.218s, 1m21.075s, 1m20.390s, 1m19.868s..

Mercedes doing extra laps, in case of Lewis looks like he found pace, still Vettel for me, but looks as close as it has been most of the season
Forza ferrari, Vettel pole Kimi P2 !!
Lewis bad 1st run cannot make up in 2nd and only 4th and please Renault give those RBR boys a proper Q3 mode :(

By Spengo Go To PostHamilton doesn't get pole. Camera zooms in excessively on his father's face lolI noticed that to :p Jos face was better in q2 ;)
Now go Kimi get one you did good today ;)
Clean start and hopefully fight between The Ferrari's and Mercs, although could well be like Monaco were Fer just was the quicker of the two. Maybe the RBR's can spoil the day of the two top teams with good starts/aggressive strategies.
And Alonso is ready :P

Vettel's steering alignment is quite off on the straight. His wheel is tilted left when going straight.
By Spengo Go To PostVettel's steering alignment is quite off on the straight. His wheel is tilted left when going straight. Both Mercedes catching, Kimi no were to go, could get interesting....because no way Ferrari is going to let Kimi past

If Verstappen passes Bottas, I think heads will explode.
Edit: Credit to Mercedes. Didn't think they'd do that.

By Spengo Go To PostIf Verstappen passes Bottas, I think heads will explode.Yeah, Max almost messed that up for them, hope they will not regret it in the end........moral WC ;)

Good one two for Ferrari, Kimi fastest today but no way he could get past, or be let past, Vettel. Mercedes little of pace all weekend and Max will remember this one, silly error cost his team, teammate and in the end himself (10 seconds) penalty (unjustified for me, seeing stewards earlier this season, Bottas), but hey he will learn from this ;)
And HondaMcLaren with the fastest lap of the race, silly Fernando probably saving all his energy for one quick lap ;)
And shame PauldiR could not finish his race, but he did well seeing the lack of driving in that car.
Great for McLaren to be in the top 10 with both drivers, fastest lap Fernando, Stoffel unlucky that he overshot his pit box, but maybe things are looking up for the team.
By Spengo Go To PostGreat for McLaren to be in the top 10 with both drivers, fastest lap Fernando, Stoffel unlucky that he overshot his pit box, but maybe things are looking up for the team.just brilliant.........and yeah almost forgot, Stoffel's first points this season!
I see many Ricciardo fans mad Daniel didn't get his anonymous drive to 3rd or 4th that never shows on tv.
Summerbrake is over lads :whoah: , so back to GP racing and this time we go the beautifull Ardennes in Spa-Francoshamps for the Pirelli Belgian GP.
(courtesy autosport forum)
Even though we do not race on the old classic lay-out of the 50/70s and we added way to many tarmac run offs, it still is an amzing track and hopefully the Ardennes mountains throw in some nice unpredicatble weather.
It's also the home race for two Belgium born racers, although one will probably get a bit more Orange support. While we were away on Holiday, McLaren confirmed Stoffel as one of their drivers for next season. He needs to step it up a bit for the remainder of the season, as so far he has disapointed (as far that's possible next to Fernando) me a little, expected more based on jr carreer.
And it is also Fer vs Merc round 12, as I cannot see RBR getting to close due to the extreme long max power (1st/3rd sector) even though they will be competetive in the twitchy middle sector. Like McLaren, Ferrari confirmed their 1st driver and we will have another season of Kimi playing second fiddle. It is Ferrari's way, but feel it is a waist of a top seat, of which we do not have that many in current F1 :(
And track lay-out plus a bit of rain would say Lewis the man to beat this weekend (200th GP), but strangely he has had his issues over the years with/at this track, so don't put your money on it.
And last but not least new Codemaster F1 game is out today. As F1 and sim nutter not something I jump on day one, but maybe later in a Steam sale.
Not to much to read in these FP1 times, lot of speed differences between teammates (low/high wing) teams trying to find best compromise, other than Merc being fast (also in speedtraps, upgrade engine??) ) on hardest compound available.
Rain in the end messed up teams testing the longlivety of the Ultra Tires, they looked to go off pretty quickly. Merc/Fer similar level when they show full pace tomorrow, RBR behind,. Shame the rain fell today, as no more predicted for the remainder of the weekend. (then again prediction was for dry today ;) )
FP3 nothing really changed, other than Bottas struggling and Kimi still enjoying Spa
Biggest news of the day is Sebastian signing a new multi year (3) deal with Ferrari. Surprised it ended up being a multi year deal, if no get out clauses, as Vettel was rumoured to be looking for a shorter deal (options for 2018/19 open).
By Spengo Go To PostWe're back :pJust saw the full vid, now I get Daniel's "how did you get over last race accident --> weed" comment earlier in the week ;)
By Kidjr Go To PostI preferred the old qualifying methodhow old, like this better than the x minutes and drive when you want.
Usual suspects + Kvyat, but he had some serious issues earlier today.
Q2, surprised on such a power track that Renault get both cars in top 10
Going through all kind of trouble to get the perfect tow and than noooooo pooooower, poor Alonso
Fastest lap around Spa and Lewis equal Schumis pole record 68, no doubt will beat it this season, mega lap Like Sebastian and Max. Shame it was still p5, common Renault, but at least it is the first season DannyRic got beaten 8 times in qualifying during a season, so for those still doubting Max his single lap speed, no more.
Have laughed my ass of this season about Palmer, but feel bad for him this race, his Q2 lap was fast enough for p7 :( now his team mate is best of the rest.
pole lap:
full Q results.
Assume Red Bull has some "extreme rules" about their branding, but hope Max can keeps his Orange helmet for the remainder of the season.
Eau Rouge might be flat, but when it goes wrong crashes are still as huge as in the past. Formula 2 race this morning, Matsushita
Shame no rain today :(
