Finally saw Moonlight. I liked the two first arcs. The rest, ehhh.

If Song to Song and Blade Runner 2049 turn out to be great, then Gosling's run is currently impeccable: The Big Short, The Nice Guys, La La Land, Song to Song and Blade Runner 2049. Plus he's filming a Neil Armstrong biopic. This might outdo McConaughey's recent run.

Meh, I lost all interest by then I guess.
I'll have to wait for Boyhood: Latino
and I'd love to watch Boyhood: Asian too

I liked Arrival up to the end.
hated the ending.
Like there's no reward for watching it at all with zero satisfaction.
definitely in my top 10 for 2016,
but I dont think I'll be watching it again.

I can't think of any movie I haven't liked him in.
Only God Forgives is probably his weakest, but that isn't because of him. Same with Gangster Squad.
Gosling is better than McConaughey I think. He is really great at small moments.
Great comedic actor also.

By s y Go To Postdid gosling play the same character in drive and place beyond the pines?
No.
He does play a violent person, though.
He punches Mahershala Ali in the eye with an allen wrench.
By s y Go To Postdid gosling play the same character in drive and place beyond the pines?Huh? No. No way.
Gosling is good at playing violent characters because he's such a nice look person. You'd never expect it from him

Gosling is great. Much more versatile than McConaughey, with a more consistent body of work (if not something as enrapturing as Killer Joe in there).
Think he's incredible in The Nice Guys. Wonderfully gifted physical comedian.

Twitter critics trying to still make everything LLL vs Moonlight when it is now known everyone involved in both movies are friends is kind of sad for both films. Barry Jenkins telling dudes on twitter to movie on is pretty funny though. He seems like a legit great dude.
'Passengers' should I watch it?
btw, why does everyone hate Mel Gibson, is he a massive cunt or something?

Because he is misogynistic, racist cunt.

Because he reminds them of Pepe Mel

His performance in The Nice Guys was probably one of the best this past year.
As for Moonlight, the middle portion I would say had some problems for me. The quality of actors is really all over the place. The first and third act are rock solid.
By cashman Go To PostThe third act of Moonlight is incredible, and is the main point of the movie. The ending scene is one of the most well acted, directed scenes ever.
Moonlight is good but doesn't quite hit great for me because of the way mahershala ali's character was handled

I want my wooden fucking planet.
This is probably not gonna be good but I'll definitely see it.
It's got the hallmarks of being a proper Alien movie. It's small in scope, it's got the whole "accidental discovery" vibe to it. The only question is if he can avoid of throwing in a twist like David setting up these events ahead of time and Elizabeth Shaw somehow being alive or whatever.
i saw Prometheus before the internet decided it was the worst thing ever and i kinda liked it. for some reasons it came out in france like two months before the rest of the world. same with Jurassic World, they are not half as bad as people pretend they are.
not saying they are great movies or anything like 6-7/10

I don't like the Xeno being shown in daylight, ruins the horror imo. Also, I think Shaw is long gone, but we'll see flashbacks as to what happened on the planet.

The movie would've been absolutely phenomenal had the characters acted with some sort of sense.

I think Shaw is the hooded person we see in the movie
Watched The Place Beyond The Pines (it's on HBO app right now) for the first time last night.
Good start, but that third act was atrocious, though I didn't mind the ending. Coopers character offers nothing at that point after being so good in the second act and his situation makes little sense.
Gosling and Cooper are both very good in it and it's not an awful film. Gosling also landed Mendes so he's obviously won at life.

I liked it when I left the theater, the script falls apart under the tiniest bit of scrutiny. It really sucks cause it has everything going for it except a god awful script.
I ranted about this a bit on Twitter, but in short...
People treating movies/actors/directors/studios/writers like they’re opposing sports teams is 🚮 . There's too many good movies to be enjoyed equally and Hollywood peeps don’t even compete with each other. The scene is too small. The best want to work with the best. Everyone yelling “NO, CHAZELLE!” and “NO, JENKINS!” are missing the damn point: these people mostly like each other and work together.

I highly doubt those in the business honestly care about the awards. The studio's obviously care, but for the actors/directors/producers, it's more about what the award will do to further their careers.
And even then, Hilary Swank has two Oscars. If she dropped dead tomorrow #whoishilaryswank would probably start trending.
Internet beef is about 80% soy. People love venting online when there's no real push back. But we all know this.

People are passionate about the art they enjoy, I dont think it's that big of a deal.
I'd rather have this kind of splintering and slap fighting than there be a concensus on what the best film of the year is, I think it's a sign of health of the industry.

It reminds me too much of gaming or box office bragging.
Not everything needs to be a competition and quantifiable.
It's sad to see people not being open to other films because they have already picked their favorite and have to swat away any challengers to that.
I'm not talking about people being passionate, I'm talking about people putting other great work down because they have their faves. The whole bullshit about people being pissed about Chazelle being on the Vanity Fair cover, when in reality its traditionally Best Director that makes it. But people made it out more than it was, which is what Jenkins' tweet was in reference to. And that's why Jenkins stepped in cause he was tired of the bullshit narrative around La La Land vs Moonlight. You can love both:
