By LFMartins86 Go To PostNot even going to be the best comic book movie of the year.Is that movie even going to happen? What do they do when Justice League doesn't do a billion and Wonder Woman sucks?
Speaking of comic book movies, Matt Reeves is the rumoured choice to replace Affleck as the director of The Batman. I would be happy with that.
They fucked up. The Avengers movies do bank Marvel keeps them largely separate until then. We've already seen all the DC heroes together in Batman Vs Superman. What is the selling point of Justice League? Come see another bad Zack Snyder film?
Still surprised that they put out Batman V Superman so soon. I was expecting at least another superman and the batman movie first. The Justise league movie is even stranger. How do they expect an audience outside of DC fans to care about an ensemble superhero movie when you haven't taken the time to introduce and grow the individual characters? That's like if Avengers came out after the first Ironman.
and why does cyborg look like a graphic card cover?

The truly stunning thing about Batman v Superman is that it did $870M at the box office. Batman by himself has carried billion dollar movies. The movie with the entire Justice League and Lex Luthor did marginally better than Deadpool. They've backed themselves into a corner and keep doubling down on Synder for some truly inexplicable reason.
And speaking of Cyborg, that is definitely never getting made. They've basically already shelved The Flash, there's no chance in hell they make a Cyborg movie.

By reilo Go To PostThe Flash has been shelved?Director left and Warner ordered a full script rewrite.
I just realized Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Way of the Gun, Rogue Nation, Edge of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher) is writing The Mummy. That guy doesn't miss with summer action movies. My hype is all in.
By reilo Go To PostJohn Wick 2 hype, initiate.
Saw it last night. Was a good popcorn flick. Kinda angry at the film because they cast Common.
This is a missed opportunity. The whole movie is from the perspective of hacked devices, like a laptop, a cell phone and even a Kinect, as we follow a young woman who is being stalked by a hacker. While it can be incredibly tense, it feels too long at times (which is quite an achievement as the movie barely reaches 80 minutes) and the end is completely fucked up. By the end, the girl is in a complete meltdown after realizing someone had been in her apartment days before, her boyfriend was threatened and she is packing her things to move away from the apartment. On her final night in the apartment, she is scared and skyping with her mother when suddenly she sees her stalker who attacks. We don't see the attack on camera but only through shadows and sounds while her mother is in panic searching for her daughter's address while on the phone with the police. The man slowly walks in to frame and shuts the laptop. We get a credits scene with thousands of videos from anonymous persons on cell phones and laptops. There's an after credits scene where we see the police enter the apartment and it seems like she isn't there anymore but the scene is cut before they search the whole apartment. We don't get to know who was the stalker and what happened to girl. It's sick and disturbing, I get what they were trying to do but I don't like it.
Watched Batman v Superman on the plane.
Not completely irredeemable. The central premise, that Superman is doubted by mankind yet rises above it all to inspire them, isn't a bad one. Also, a brave decision to have Batman be so blatantly villainous. I know that a lot of comic fans have been annoyed at the portrayal of the two characters but I have no prior attachment to them and don't mind. I'd argue that the filmmakers shouldn't care too much about faithfulness either, as long as they are able to make their story work.
Unfortunately let down by baffling character actions and motivations.I get that Batman has become a cynical dick and doesn't like the fact that Superman exists but I felt that a lot of his actions made no bloody sense. Also, of course, the fucking franchise building. Just how is anyone supposed to understand or care about Batman's dream sequence and Flash's bizarre cameo.
Heard a lot about Luthor's annoyingness and I guess he is but what bothered me more was that he really didn't need to be in the movie. Conflict could have been purely between Batman and Superman but of course, they just have to cram stuff in. Oh, it's a Superman movie. Let's put Lex in even though we can't think of a good reason for him to be there. Just provides shitty excuse for pointless courtroom explosions and cave trolls. Well, I guess defeating the troll was how Superman proves his heroism but I'm sure there could be a billion other ways it could be done.
Also, it's really boring.

Did you watch the Theatrical Cut or the Ultimate Edition? While the movie isn't great (although I like it), the Ultimate Edition is far better than the Theatrical Cut as it explains quite a bit more.
Theatrical Cut.
Also, short reviews of all the movies I've watched in the past few years.
Jurassic World - Fine
White House Down - Missed the first 15 minutes or so. Perfectly fine. Appreciate Emmerich trying to be progressive.
Jack the Giant Slayer - Really fun
Guardians of the Galaxy - Fun. Favorite Marvel film (only watched 2 or 3 others)
Frankenweenie - Ideas that go nowhere
Hotel Transylvania - Good sense of energy even if more than half the jokes don't work.
Force Awakens. Fine enough but way too derivative. I miss Lucas.
Rogue One. Good. Shouldn't really be giving it credit for it but appreciate the comparative lack of derivativeness. I still miss Lucas.
Finding Dory. Alright. A lot of what happened in the film started to feel repetitive, eg: Marlin/Nemo and Dory taking turns trying to find each other. Climax becomes way too bombastic and contrived. More is often less.
Inside Out. Alright. Had a lot of issues with the mechanics of how the brain worked. For example, Riley lacks emotions when Joy and Sadness are absent from base. However, their journey back, and consequently Riiley's emotions seem to be affected by mundane things such as the train breaking down or whether or not they fall of a cliff. Feels rather off to me. Maybe I'm misjudging the film based on it's premise itself, I dunno.
Man of Steel. Alrightish. I agree with a lot of criticism that Superman's motivations aren't well developed and that Lois Lane felt unnecessary. But it killed a few hours on the plane reasonably enough.
Evergreen Love. Perfectly decent. Probably no one else has heard about it, I just decided to watch a random Japanese film on the plane.
Interstellar Good ideas, not sure I like how the climax was handled.

If you can't be bothered to watch the Ultimate Cut, here's a list of the differences.

By rodeoclown Go To PostI don't want to be overly dramatic, but it's pretty much the apex of cinema. Its not an exaggeration. The movie is also perfectly self-aware. Its amazing.
By Elchele Go To Postis it as good as Dredd, tho? It's at punching weight. Take this from a man that loves Dredd.
There's really only two scenes where John even gets a moment to breathe and one of them is a montage of him getting suited up and buying guns. It's basically non-stop murder from the get go. It takes that hyperviolence and gore for comedic effect to the next level. It's beautiful. It's glorious.
By rodeoclown Go To Postmontage of him getting suited up and buying guyshrmm
By reilo Go To PosthrmmFake news. John Wick has never been involved in human trafficking.
John Wick 2 is good.
Felt like the supporting cast in 1 were better actors than those in 2 and really re-enforced the 'this isn't ridiculous, this is totally real' thing the series is going for. Fishburne went a little too hammy and Common is ......he's common.

So many good back and fourths
I absolutely love how they expanded the lore. It was a perfect progression and insight into John Wick's life prior to his retirement without doing something cliche like a flashback.
I quite enjoyed John Wick 2 from start to finish but I thought the first one was much better.
the novelty wearing off I guess
the shootout sequence with the mobs in Italy felt…padded
Glad to hear it's a trilogy!!!
