Saw Split. Movie was regular. Jessica Sula delicious. Them cakes omg...
Seeing La La Land tomorrow, rewatching Whiplash right now, it's brilliantly edited and acted. One of my favourite films of the last decade
I'm aware these are 2016 films but fuck England
La La Land was just lovely. A little bit murky in its clarity and intentions sometimes, but its just so earnest and soulful and good looking and good sounding that it doesn't matter. Loved it.
And fuck me when did Ryan Gosling get so good?
Seeing Manchester by the Sea midweek

Not this great. Really good in Half Neldon, enjoyably charming in Lars and the Real Girl, suitably intense in Blue Valentine and Drive. First performance of his that really made me sit up and take notice was Place Beyond The Pines, but the one-two punch of The Nice Guys and La La Land is remarkable. Wonderful physical comedian.
This was in the previews during Live By Night. The Circle staring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
Can't comment on Live By Night. I only saw 30 mins of before leaving due to kids with phones showing up in the front row ten mins in and acting like fools. Went and snitched and got a refund.

By p s y Go To Postso im on spankbang n shit and all of a sudden im watching manchester by the sea. That's how I saw Hidden Figures and rewatched Moonlight lol
will report back
I've seen La La Land three times. The last time was a week ago in an entirely empty theater on a massive screen at three in the afternoon. I was singing along half the time. Great film. Will cleanup all the non acting awards.
i am seeing this at the weekend might be ok i reckon
i'd even watch Jonathan Pryce and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson discuss the artistic merits of lancashire so i'm game
also got a few more wee films in 2017 i think'll be ok
God’s Own Country (basically an autobiography so i'm gonna love it regardless)
City of Ghosts - I think Cartel Land is up there with Act of Killing as the one of the best docs i've seen in the last few years. So think this'll be a gem.
Raw - Belgian/French horror movie. Sounds right wacky like.
that new Bigelow film
that new Aronofsky film

By cashman Go To PostThat's how I saw Hidden Figures and rewatched Moonlight lolword? lmao. I've been dying yo see midnight. This is hilarious.
Also, on MBTS. I like Casey Aflek, I really do but I can't help but feel he plays the same dude in every movie I've seen him in. Assassination of Jesse James, Gone Baby Gone, etc. Maybe it's that super raspy voice idk

All this praise La La Land keeps getting is turning me off on the movie for some reason. Don't even want to watch it now lol. I loved whiplash but I want to hate on LLL without having seen it.
I really want to see "I Am Not Your Negro"
bruh don't be that guy

Finished Manchester By The Sea. I very much enjoyed it. I' m happy that I knew next to nothing about the film going into it. I've noticed that it almost always results in a more positive experience.
I really appreciated that Lee is very much still a broken man by the end of the movie. There was no redemption arc for him. Near the end I thought there would be a "happy" ending of some sorts when things looking up for Lee and Patty but nope, like Lee said, he just can't beat it.
Dialogue and everyone gave a great performance.
I think Moonlight releases on VOD really soon, right?

I was good friends with a kid from Boston growing that looks very similar to him and they have a ton of the same mannerisms/regional ticks. I thought he was great and nailed it.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostGuys we should talk about that scene from Manchester. You know which scene I'm talking about.the one in the police station?
By LFMartins86 Go To Post2 weeks.praise the distros
By reilo Go To Postthe one in the police station?I think he's talking about when Lee runs into his ex wife and she has the baby in the stroller and they both sort of breakdown. Best scene of the movie.
Seeing John Wick 2 next tuesday. Hopefully it is good. I have low expectations because Common in it.
By p s y Go To PostDidn't know people hated Lucas Hedges' performance in Manchester, I thought it was pretty good.
What? He was fucking great
Fuck it, saw Moonlight.
Man. That last act was hard to watch(in a good way).
First time in a minute where I felt uncomfortable watching some scenes due to how real and intimate they felt. I know it's corny but it really does feel like you're there, there's no script, they aren't actors, like I'm invading someone's life. fuck. Hats off to Barry Jenkins. Also loved the shallow depth of field he had going on throughout the entire movie. Especially that last scene in the kitchen.
There aren't too many films where every single actor involved fucking nails their roles like this one. Marshala Ali, Trevonte Rhodes, Andre Holland, Naomi Harris, Ashton Sanders and Alex Hibbert were fantastic. Didn't even know that Janelle Monae could act, played her role well.

Please watch Lion. It's pretty stunning to look, it's tragic, it's exceptionally acted by both the young boy playing Saroo and Dev Patel as the moody, confused, grown Saroo. It's one of the best movies about identity and place that's been made in some time. I didn't know anything about the story, but it's really moving and hard to watch at times, in the best way.
Gorgeous film. I wish it had played near me before Oscar nominations.

I thought it was pretty trite, BBC2 on a lunchtime stuff. First half was good, and it looks gorgeous. Second half is just Patel using Google Earth repeatedly.
It was fine. Didn't think there was much wrong with it, just... not much right. Pretty uninspiring for me.

Speaking of comic book movies, Matt Reeves is the rumoured choice to replace Affleck as the director of The Batman. I would be happy with that.
