My sentence was poorly worded i meant having the switch being portable is it's biggest draw. I've always wanted to be able to get lost/fully immersed in games on the go and felt the vita came exceptionally close but never quite got there.

But man so far it hasn't been done correctly..
I would be interested in one half of a Joycon controller for use with proper mobile games on my phone.
I'm serious.

Size comparisons:

Can't lie, that's actually pretty impressive engineering. The Wii U is already practically microscopic compared to other consoles, but with all the parts and the power brick it still takes up a fair amount of space and weight in a suitcase. Seeing the Switch dock next to it is kind of a wow moment for me.
It looks like it might be a step down in ergonomics though. The Wii U gamepad looks awkward & bulky but is surprisingly one of the most comfortable controllers I've ever held.

I'm really impressed with the system itself. My only issues are with the sparse launch lineup and paid online.
If Bomberman's as underwhelming as as people are saying, the North American launch lineup is basically just Zelda + a couple of party games:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
1 2 Switch
Just Dance 2017
Skylanders Imaginators
Super Bomberman R
That's up there with some of the sparsest ever. The N64 only launched with Mario 64 & Pilotwings, but at least you can make the case that they were both exclusive. In Japan it doesn't look quite as bad:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
1 2 Switch
Dragon Quest Heroes 1+2
Nobunaga no Yabou Power Up Kit
I am Setsuna
Puyo Puyo Tetris S
Disgaea 5
Super Bomberman R
It's port city, but there's a bunch of good games there if you haven't played them yet. I would check out portable Nobunaga's for sure if it ran well (the Vita port was jank).

I could probably fit 10 switches in a XB1 with the power brick. Not sure why you'd compare those two.
Looks so savoury in those pictures, god damn it.

Immersion and Nintendo Enter into Agreement to Bring Immersion's TouchSense Technology to the Nintendo Switch System
SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Immersion Corp. (NASDAQ:IMMR), the leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, today announced that it has signed a multi-year agreement with Nintendo to allow Immersion to adapt its TouchSense® technology to the new Nintendo SwitchTM system. As part of the agreement, Nintendo receives a license to Immersion's patent portfolio.
Once it is adapted to the Nintendo Switch system, game developers will be able to use Immersion's TouchSense software suite to design games for the Nintendo Switch system. Immersion's TouchSense software will help developers provide immersive touch-based gaming controls to players around the world.
Game developers have long known that adding the sense of touch to games heightens the experience and keeps players engaged. Recent research shows that utilizing haptics technology in the gaming experience increases satisfaction and enjoyment during gameplay. With the Nintendo Switch system, game developers can now leverage the sense of touch, providing game players an incredible tactile experience that isn't currently available on any other game system.
"We are thrilled about the opportunity to work with Nintendo to bring Immersion's TouchSense technology to their customers," said Vic Viegas, CEO of Immersion. "Nintendo sets the bar with their gaming systems, and adding advanced touch effects will give them an additional edge in delivering an incredible gaming experience to their customers."

Touch feedback and HD rumble as selling points when they've got five launch titles; FIFA from the seventh generation pending; third party announcements for games that aren't even in production; an online system that they're now charging for but not talking about yet; and add-ons for Ethernet jacks and the ability to charge your controllers.
This is the most surreal launch since the Wii U naming confusion (is it a system or controller add-on?) and Xbone DRM debacle.
They're completely unprepared. I don't see why they have to have a Q1 launch anyway. Why not wait until Mario is ready and come correct in the fall with more at launch? Surely a one, two punch of Mario and Zelda would be enough to go up against whatever MS is cooking for Scorpio.

Is Scorpio a whole new console? It has to be backwards compatible because I'm not hearing much in regards to Scorpio specific games, right?

Nintendo is Japan-first in their decision making, I guarantee they're not making any major decisions based on whatever happens with the Xbone.
It's hitting now because their fiscal year is up at the end of March. They need to do something to make up for the lack of revenue from the last year of the Wii U. Kimishima just took over for a beloved figure, the last thing he wants is investors calling for his head in his sophomore season.
By p s y Go To PostIs Scorpio a whole new console? It has to be backwards compatible because I'm not hearing much in regards to Scorpio specific games, right?
It's just a spec upgrade to the Xb1. There won't be any games that don't also run on the normal one.
New CEO definitely makes sense for the timing. Didn't consider that.
By p s y Go To PostIs Scorpio a whole new console? It has to be backwards compatible because I'm not hearing much in regards to Scorpio specific games, right?I'm assuming games are going to be developed with a scale to spec situation in mind since MS are seemingly staying away from outright saying this is a new generation. On paper though this new system looks to be a substantial upgrade on the original Xbox One. This spec bump might become the new normal, and backwards compatibility with previous gens from here on out might be what ties it all together, which doesn't sound awful, but does sound expensive.
By Smokey Go To PostThe xb1s is the main SKU now so…..nohow big do you think the switch is?
the XB1S is still easily 5 times bigger and it with a screen and battery in it.
During yesterday’s Treehouse Live stream, Nintendo said that Switch will support microSDXC cards that hold up to 256 GB of data. That actually was incorrect. Nintendo now notes in an official statement that “Switch is compatible with the SDXC standard, which supports up to 2TB.”
2TB cards are not actually out on the market. However, Switch will support them when they are.

actually you could probably fit way more Switches in an XB1S (just the tablet part that has a screen and a battery).
the power comparison is really fair.

First party games were about ten bucks cheaper than third party.

I think fallen hero should go Atari Lynx -> Game Gear -> Wonder Swan -> NGPC
EDIT: Wait, I get it now. It's fallen hero because Wonderswan was designed by Gunpei Yokoi after he was exiled from Nintendo following the failure of the Virtual Boy. So Game Gear doesn't really fit. Is there an elaborate Golden Axe timeline somewhere? Maybe it could fit on that.

I get how solid state storage works, but something about seeing that vast world contained in this tiny card is weird to me. Like it actually happened, carts really are back, and they're microscopic yet contain way more than ever. Like, this shit was 118 megs:

The VMU was almost an awesome idea. Except the resolution was like 4x8 and 2 lithium batteries somehow only lasted a day, then it would literally start screaming.

I've decided I'll probably get one if it comes back in stock on Amazon or Best Buy for release day.

Supporting this fukkery at launch is why Nintendo does what it does every time
But it's OK
This might potentially be the last time anyway
Hey, you do you Gondo. If you've got the money, you've already gone through the WIi U's catalogue, and you know you're going to eventually get one during its lifespan, might as well pay the launch premium for that good feeling you get having the shiny new thing. People always talk about waiting for $50 price drops or whatever, but if you divide the cost by the number of months you have it during its active lifespan, getting in at launch usually works out just as well, if not better.
That being said, I'm going to keep rolling with the Wii U + Vita combo to cover the same bases the Switch does. Vita has the portable library of the forever and at least another 18 months of life in it.

Sure it's silly to buy one at launch from a rational perspective, but shiny new devices are fun.

And brand new Zelda on a plane sounds amazing.
We'll see. Part of going on vacation is unplugging anyways, so I probably shouldn't take too many devices. Plus I still haven't beaten the newest Fire Emblem or even touched Pokemon Sun. And Spelunky is evergreen so the Vita is tempting as well.
