So I guess 3DS developers won't be getting on board with Switch as we anticipated? Because the software release looks like what I'd expect if only their console development teams were in on this. If their 3DS teams were switching towards Switch I feel like we'd be seeing more.

Feel like for the vast majority of them I only started hearing about them when they were close to release. Obviously though if they existed in some solid form, Nintendo would have put them on the list just to make the numbers.
Not sure where else studios with handheld-sized budgets can go, since vita is obviously dead. Seems like a choice of moving onto Switch, raise your budget for PS4/Xbox/PC, or go to Steam
Or they just stick with the 3DS. There's enough of them out there that they won't have to worry about Nintendo pulling the plug anytime soon
I thought the Switch might be what rejuvenated my decrepit passion for video games.
Thankfully, Nintendo continues to be a blundering nincompoop.

I cant see Nintendo and thier teams with abandon the 3ds. The switch is not really a portable. And I dont see the switch being profitable enough at first (if ever) for it to make sense for them to switch (lol)
Why compromise the console to double down on a super Wii U if you aren't going to get the handheld developers on board though

And I dont see the switch being profitable enough at first (if ever) for it to make sense for them to switch (lol)The Switch was probably supposed to be the 3DS replacement, injecting some vivacity into their console half by fusing it with their relatively successful portable half - at least that's how I interpreted it from the earliest leaks.
They should reconsider that strategy now. 4DS on the way.

Nintendo isnt stupid they know the handheld market, they wouldn't put all their eggs in a semi portable 300$ console with 2 hour battery life.

Two 3D screens. Or three 2D screens. You'll never be more immersed, and you'll never have cried so much because of a game. Tear-inducing eye-strain still counts.
By masud Go To PostNintendo isnt stupidBold claim.
I feel like if it becomes known a 4DS is on the way then Switch inevitably becomes Wii U from a success standpoint
I look at all the things in the hype and what most people had as a minimum list of things where they'd buy the system.
How the fuck did Nintendo of all companies miss out again?
How the fuck did Nintendo of all companies miss out again?
I will buy one but not at launch. The mobile aspect was most appealing to me and it seems compromised.
Even after all that I would have bought one day 1, but paid online? nah. at least with ps+ and xbl i can just set my brothers account to be the home account so i still get all the benefits without spending money
For all the negativity online, it seems to be selling out everywhere. Online orders are done, lots of pictures of lineups outside stores. I'm sure a bunch of it is scalpers, but I'm also sure the Zelda thirst is real, and Wii Us were quietly recalled or cleared out of stores everywhere during the holidays - Wii Us are going for $300 USD on Amazon right now.
The question will be how many they can sell after that initial shipment, but it looks like they'll be impossible to find for the first month.

lmao limited preorders too
does nintendo need someone to give them some money or do they think this limited stock thing is gonna give them another wii ?

I'm not a huge Zelda fan, don't see me dropping $300 in March just to play that for months.
Maybe around the holiday when Mario drops.

We talked about this at the start of the thread, but Kimishima has already told investors they'll have 2 million WW through the end of the fiscal year - so for the first month. That's as big a first month as anyone's ever had in gaming; though as was pointed out Sony left Japan out of PS4's first month, they could have done more. But either way, Nintendo's not doing some artificial demand thing.

Honestly, just find a Wii U, get Zelda + Mario 3D World. Pay half as much for a pro controller. Play Mario Kart, Smash and Splatoon online for free.
Then get Bayonetta 2 and laugh while Switch owners are waiting for Skyrim.
i dont see how they're expecting to get any handheld traction with this with 2.5-6 hours battery life. how does that compare to the 3ds?

If I could find a new WiiU for cheap I would.

they would sell out regardless for scalping reasons

I feel like the rest of Nintendo's franchises are underutilized. We need new Metroid and a dedicated console Pokémon. A new Fire Emblem that uses console horsepower would be amazing too.

don't know about metroid, but pokemon stars is coming out next year, and fire emblem is getting a musou game.

Honestly, these were the two real letdowns of the Wii U's library to me. HD Metroid was one of the main reasons I bought the thing in the first place. Unfortunately the franchise is a non-entity in Japan and doesn't sell 1/5 as well as Donkey Kong, so Retro did that instead. But Retro haven't been heard from in years, so maybe Metroid's their big surprise for E3?
Fire Emblem was weird, we got #FE but while it has its fans, it's also not what anybody really wanted it to be. Given the series' popularity right now you'd think they would have put a proper FE out, but the Wii U became the only home console they've ever made that doesn't have one. Maybe if it had lived longer.
metroid might be the half life of consoles at this point
people want that metroid prime 4 and it won't happen

I know people hate on HD Remix, but Ultra SF II actually looks pretty tight.

Where are the third party games at... and don't say Elder Scrolls. That game is older than Switch hardware.
By masud Go To PostHow did Nintendo become the home of Musou games? Fucking hate that series.
Nintendo & Koei Tecmo's execs must like drinking together. A lot of business in Japan gets done that way. There's been this weird cross pollination for a while now...though it doesn't quite explain why Nintendo wound up working with Itagaki who sued KT for mental abuse.

They've got a ton of stuff, but the storage limitations mean they're probably not going to have a lot of overlap with the PS4/XB1 libraries:
I Am Setsuna
Has Been Heroes
Just Dance 2017
Super Bomberman R
Sonic Mania
Skyrim Wait, sorry, you said don't say that.
NBA 2k18
Project Sonic 2017
Arcade Archives
FIFA
Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers
Disgaea 5 Complete
Dragonball Z Xenoverse 2
Farming Simulator
Fast RMX
Minecraft Story Mode The complete adventure
Minecraft
Puyopuyo Tetris
Rayman Legends Definitive edition
Rime
Shin Megami Tensei
Skylanders Imaginators
Siberia 3
Steep

Don't hate on Puyo Puyo Tetris, that game is legit AF. I brought the PS4 version back from Japan at Christmas and my family played it the entire week straight.
But yeah, it's obvious publishers are playing it really safe with this thing right now.
By masud Go To PostHow did Nintendo become the home of Musou games? Fucking hate that series.
They're still on other platforms.
They've just sort of become the default spinoff vehicle for a lot of Japanese games and properties. Probably because they're easy and cheap to make and look good(easy stable 60 fps). Easy way to make a lot of playable characters as well

I say right now because pretty soon every developer in Japan is going to have to decide whether they go mobile, PS4 or Switch. A lot of them won't want to develop for mobile and throw their game into the app store pit.
And a lot of them just don't have the resources to look good on PS4. This crap is the best Falcom can do, and they're one of the bigger devs:
Unless it tanks, Switch is going to make a hell of a lot of sense for a lot of the mid-to-small size developers currently on Vita & 3DS.
