Charleston Church Shooter Dylan Roof Sentenced 💀
- Page 1 of 1
I am not a fan of the death penalty but I am glad that he is getting more than the slap-on-the-wrist that some of these cops have been getting.
We we'll see if this is a strong enough message to those who have been galvanized by the incoming presidency.

I am a fan in this case. I know it won't heal the racial rift in the world. But Roof was a coward as well as a monster. He attacked people who welcomed him into their sanctuary while they bowed their heads in prayer.. Wish we could express lane him to the finish line like they do dudes in Texas..
As someone who's against the death penalty, I would rather him suffer the rest of his life in a small cell, but I ain't gonna shed a tear in this case.

Even life in a cell has some luxuries.. Something simple pleasures like waking up in the morning and the first taste of coffee... He doesn't deserve even that as far as I am concerned..

We have an imperfect legal system and innocent people are put to death because of it. As someone who's against the death penalty for these reasons, I don't get to pick and chose cases where I think it should be applied and where it shouldn't be.
That being said, there's a reason I said I won't shed a tear in this case.

I 100% respect that, not a HUGE fan of the death plenty myself.. but in this case I can say I am glad we still have it..
I am probably the most pro-death penalty person on this board. It's a shame South Carolina doesn't have an express lane out to the back of the courthouse for a firing squad. If anyone has ever deserved that, it's this asshole.
My feelings on the death penalty aside, glad that the victim's families get some sort of closure on this.
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostFry'em. Its what he wanted….. Its what everyone wanted….. Good riddance
Giving him what he wants and makes no him a martyr for his cause.
By Fenderputty Go To PostGiving him what he wants and makes no him a martyr for his cause.Yep. Not a fan of this. Dude is gonna die a happy man this way.

Sure but I don't really think the death penalty is for the condemned. It's for the people still alive to derive meaning from. Whether he's happy or not doesn't matter. Dead is dead.
That said the appeals process probably means he's still got another 10-15 years left to live. Good resolution to the case though. If the Death Penalty is something necessary in our society it's for cases exactly like this.

No it doesn't. People propping him up as one after he's gone does.
But I don't think that's happening here. There's no glory at all to be found in this case no matter what your views are. Which is as it should be.

He still begged for his life.. so not sure if he really is ready to go. He knew if they granted him life he would forever have money on the books and be protected in the house..

Cosigned.
Additionally, I don't buy the martyr angle. Dude premeditated a heinous crime and proceeded to sabotage his own defense in court. Dude is demonic.

Me neither. I don't really see any evidence of any group backing this guy or any media spins trying to add nuance to what he did. There's absolutely no glory in it for Roof.
He can fancy himself a martyr all the way down the green mile if he wants. Martyrdom requires there to be someone to admire you in death as a hero. I just don't see there being anything to suggest that anyone sees Roof in that light. Even Neo-Nazi's are condemning Roof. Dude will be remembered as a monster until he's forgotten.

Well I mean you can find anything if you look for it. lol (I'm not about to though...)
Idk man. I know we're kind of conditioned to respond skeptically to stuff like this given a lot of similar high profile cases in recent memory, but I think this is one where the justice system worked out exactly as intended. Don't let your pessimism keep your from seeing that. Roof is on death row scorned and alone.

He opted to represent himself in a 1st degree murder trial with the death penalty on the board.
I mean I imagine a lot of people say they want to die until they're face to face with it, but that decision was essentially suicide in itself.
I support the death penalty for cases where the accused is found guilty beyond a reason of doubt, admitted guilt and the punishment fits the crime.
In a case like this that directly effects so many other lives I do believe that the family members effected should have a say when the death penalty is on the table.
Now having said that, I hate and disagree with the length of time it takes for the appeals process to play out. This motherfucker is going to spend the next decade locked up and receive better health care coverage on the publics dime than I am. Charles Manson is 82, sick and near death, but was due for surgery recently. Fuck that, let him die.
Roof should be executed and made an example of. If you get caught stealing in Iran, they cut your fucking hands off. That's probably a bit extreme. But if don't do the crime if you can't do the time is in play, well, maybe don't kill people in cold blood and get caught if you too don't want to face that same fate.

Not bothered in the slightest. Like many, not a fan of corporal punishment. Shit can go wrong..folks can be coerced to confess to shit they ain't done. This animal did it, wrote a manifesto, ran to another state, confessed to it, and is on camera at the scene of the horrific slaughter of those innocent folks who were doing nothing but praying to their god and welcoming him in with open arms. They could throw him in a pit full of gators for all I fucking care..racist fucking monster..
And he can take Trump with him..
By abuC Go To PostGood, fuck him. Rest in piss.

That man disrupted race relations in my home state from Charleston to Rock Hill . The one safe place we always had in South Carolina was the church and he tired to take that away. So the death penalty is welcomed as far as I'm concerned.
By Jay Whatever Go To PostI'm not for the death penalty, but I won't lose sleep over this.Pretty much where I'm at now.
