Look at this shit. Trying to cater to 50,000 people just to win elections.
Grandstanding? Manchin is a dem and that bill isn't passing congress
Manchin is a Senator from WV, of course he'll support this shit. IDK why you keep thinking he won't caucus with Republicans on shit like this just cause he's got a D next to his name.
Remember when progressives were aggressively pining for the extinction of the Republican Party? Well think of that but in reverse: Because fuck you, that's why.
The mining thing I see precisely as you said: appeal to 5k folks and say you look out for the middle class hard workers is easier than managing billions in new tech and energy, then biting the bullet if it falls through for a hundred reasons that may or may not be outside of your control. The Canadian wood thing is America, fuck yeah!
I'm looking at how people are saying stuff like how #45 is doing better than Obama ever did. Really? What has the man done besides be white?
Remember that there is no logic to racism and hate, so trying to make sense of this will MindFuck you.. American politics are so FUBAR. Esp because DEMS do not have the testicular fortitude, no fucks given, or intelligence to organize a Tea Party equivalent to counteract all this so we can revert back to center right from far right.
I just check in once per week to see I feel anything drastic has changed. Meanwhile, police up here in Michigan pulling guns on 12 year old kids minding their own damn business. So excuse me while I go tach my kids how to respond when the police pull guns on them as they walk home a mile from school everyday because lol that other shit doesn't matter.

I was kinda just thinking out loud in my previous post but I'll expound further.
1. I assume Machin will caucus with R's. At least as long as he wants to remain a D senator in WV.
2. I assume that him having a D next to his name makes it harder to pass this bill in an R controlled congress. R's will want credit for helping coal miners out.
3. If it's not harder to pass with a D next to his name, the bill itself still provides life long healthcare to 50K people with black lung. No way the HFC passes this. How the hell does a republican congress justify giving free HC to only 50K people all while they're trying to strip it from everyone else?
4. I postulated grandstanding because I saw nothing to be gained from this other than political capital.
Miners are getting fucked left and right. Coal prices, coal power plants shutting, trump's ineffectual EPA crap, Trumps removal of the Appalachian regional commission from his upcoming budget etc etc. Manchin wants to make sure it's not lost on Coal Country that he cares.
We just had to special elections in R+20 districts in which we were closer than we ever should be too. If nothing is actually going to get done until 2018 then expect a lot of what's to come to be a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Including the upcoming shutdown if Trump tries to put a mexican border wall poison pill into a clean CR.

Most of the infighting I see is caused by Bernie Stans, but that admittedly might be anecdotal. Either way the arguments are mostly centered around who we as a party should pander to, what ideals we should sacrifice etc. etc. I actually think Bernie supporting a couple socially conservative dems ins't a bad thing. It's pragmatic. I also think it's stupid to assume the democratic party is attacking Bernie since they're the ones sending him out there to support candidates.
Personally I think Libs stand to lose the least and gain the most by dropping gun control in their platform.
A 50 state strategy was bound to ruffle some feathers considering the stupid purity tests some on the left are going through right now.

To early for the moderate Dems. Expect some potential candidates to show up in 2018 around the time of the mid terms.

It’s possible that now, four-and-a-half years after Red Pill’s founding, Fisher may regret his creation. When reached for comment by phone, Fisher denied participation in the Red Pill forum, claiming not to know what The Red Pill was. Though he did say he had heard of the men’s rights movement, he said he hadn’t heard of PUA. “What is a pickup artist?” he asked.
Within hours of contacting Rep. Fisher, and after delivering by email a summary of his apparent connections to The Red Pill kingpin, his two primary Reddit usernames had been wiped, and four blogs connected to him were deleted or made private. He has not returned additional requests for comment.
Any Dem that comes out and starts campaigning for 2020 now are going to be, correctly, shit on for way jumping the gun. Like, Sherrod Brown isn't going to run for President if he can't win re-election in 2018. And announcing presidential aspirations will be a huge obstacle to winning re-election.
Gillibrand, Booker, whatever... these are all "moderates" in some form or another I guess.
The future leaders of the party will be shaped by the 2018 midterms. Unexpected upsets (for example, Beto taking down Cruz or something equally shocking) would immediately catapult those politicians to the center of the national spotlight.

Anybody watch Kasich last night on CNN townhall? The man is one of the realest politicians I've seen. Not an ideologue. Understands that the federal govt has a responsibility to the people. One of the best at empathizing with the plights of those he speaks to. Isn't afraid of confronting topics that most politicians would offer stupid and no substance platitudes to. Depending on who the Dems put up in 2020 (please no Elizabeth Warren), if Kasich was to run and somehow get the nomination to unseat Donald, I'd be hard pressed not to vote for him.

I know you're an ex conservative turned moderate with a slight lib lean, but Kasich is anything but a reasonable moderate GOP politician. He sure plays that roll well though. One only needs to read your post for evidence.
He's absolutely an ideologue. He's been on the repeal Obamacare train with no replacement for years. That's not "understanding the federal government should have a roll in taking care of people." He has the same lower taxes creates infinite revenue bullshit voodoo economic message. He believes in traditional marriage but apparently went to a gay friends wedding once. Whatever that means. Women get paid less by quite a margin in his state but that because they have less skills he's argued. He's aweful regarding planned parenthood etc erc
What issue did you find him reasonable on?
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/moderate-john-kasich-is-actually-terrifying-20160318
Perhaps ugliest of all, Kasich's 2013 budget banned rape crisis counselors from referring victims of sexual assault to abortion services. Tell a woman who's been raped how to end a pregnancy, and you lose your funding from the state.
1. He pushed for medicaid expansion which is more than many of his compatriots.
2. Rejected the heartbeat abortion ban bill. While he signed the 20 week limit, it includes exceptions for rape, incest, life of the mother.
3. Personally is against gay marriage but isn't trying to fight the decision of SCOTUS nor pushing employees of the govt to disobey it. While I find the belief objectionable that gay marriage is wrong, as long as a government official doesn't create policy based solely on their personal belief, I am not going to take as much exception to it. It's why I don't have a problem with the DNC's recent stance on abortion. Personally against it is fine, but as a congressman/mayor/governor, you cannot push your personal belief onto the people through policy.
4. Doesn't support the US being world police unlike say McCain/Graham.
5. Believes we need to treat the drug addicted/mentally ill. Isn't focused on doing away with the ACA like many of his colleagues.
6. Supports legalization of illegal immigrants.
Those are a few areas.
Now, areas I disagree with him.
1. he isn't supportive of legalization of drugs/marijuana.
2. Huge investment in charter schools.
3. Reduction of SS benefits.
4. Death penalty being just
5. Condemn his support of the GOP's refusal to have a vote on Garland in 2016
Among others. But unlike Trump, Paul Ryan, Ted Cruz, Kasich isn't insane. Had he won in 2016 I wouldn't have had nearly the same reaction I had with Trump.
I'm socially progressive, fiscally moderate. Meaning I'm terrified if Bernie gets into office. Warren doesn't have a shot in hell of winning. Give me someone who pushes us forward socially but doesn't see taxes being raised on the wealthy as the panacea for providing education and healthcare. Someone who isn't going to flout financial fantasies just to rally the base.

A bill further right than the original AHCA might not pass the house. "Moderate" GOP congressmen were left out of the negotiation.
They can't really blame not passing healthcare on the senate rules either. Their opportunity to pass via reconciliation was blown all on their own accord. This is widely known. If this reached the senate it might not even get 50 votes. The senate was terrified this bill would reach them and now it's worse.
There's no reason to bring this issue back up politically. The bill polled at 17% positive and red state voters were gonna get fucked. The only reason to do this is because Trump can't stand taking constant L's.
Which, BTW is about to happen with his tax proposals too.

Oh, I know they missed the cut off with reconciliation but that is the exact excuse they will use if this passes the House. I.E., it's those arcane rules in the Senate that is making this impossible to get to the President's desk. If we didn't have said rules, all we'd need is 50 and Pence could be the 51st (would Pence actually break precedent and be the deciding vote on legislation? Who knows).

1. He pushed for Medicaid expansion. He was for repeal over and over again
2, there is literally a treasure trove of info out on how aweful he is regarding abortion issues, including the one I gave.
3. This seems reasonable on the surface, but he actively supports forms of religious freedom laws that run counter to your claim. He's not psycho levels of discrimination, but he's totally cool with people not wanting to give marriage certs out if they're religious.
4. This is reasonable
5. He got a good view on treating drug addiction, but your claim that he's not focused on killing the ACA with his colleagues is just innacurrate. Him moderating on the issue at 11:59:59 isn't a good example. His comments in the last day or so are directly related to how shitty the AHCA is polling
6. This is reasonable
Edit: I think I'm off on his Obamacare stuff. He's been in support of keeping it since the expansion ... that's m ybad.

This doesn't make sense to me. Not that it won't happen, but it would put pressure on McConnel to nuke the legislative filibuster and he ain't doing that for this. I honestly don't think the AHCA has 50 in the senate if what they're being sent went through the HFC

The Trump administration is considering an executive order on withdrawing the U.S. from NAFTA, according to two White House officials.http://www.politico.com/story/2017/04/26/white-house-nafta-withdraw-trump-237632
A draft order has been submitted for the final stages of review and could be unveiled late this week or early next week, the officials said. The effort, which still could change in the coming days as more officials weigh in, would indicate the administration’s intent to withdraw from the sweeping pact by triggering the timeline set forth in the deal.
Meanwhile, the House is about to pass a "health care" bill that will gut Medicaid and increase the cost of health care for the poor and working class exponentially in the name of tax cuts for the wealthy.
By reilo Go To PostPopulism! It's actually about states rights.
If (when, let's be honest here) this amended AHCA passes, it's an absolute disgrace. Republicans are destroying health care for the lower and middle classes because fuck you, got mine. It's balloons the deficit beyond the 10 year budget window and as such, can't be passed via reconciliation. It won't get 60 in the senate, if it even gets that far.
But when the Tax Policy Center looked at Trump’s campaign proposal, which seems to be the basis for what the White House and Treasury Department are working on, they found that more than half of the tax cuts would go to the richest five per cent of households in the country; about two-fifths would go to the richest one per cent; and about a fifth would go to the richest 0.01 per cent.
