Is it obvious? I'm totally willing to believe it went down like this:
1. Trump sees poll numbers are down. Thinks "the people are unhappy with me, I need to do something to win them back." This is totally normal.
2. Sees chemical attack on TV, thinks "that's awful, I'm going to be the badass hero that gets those guys.". This is normal Trump level thinking.
3. Bannon opposes him in security council because he's an alt-right ideologue and not down with foreign adventures.
4. Trump gets huffy and says "you're fired!" because that's what he always does.
5. Trump doesn't like Priebus or any other establishment R because they're not on his team or totally beholden to him. He will spend his entire term impulsively trying to tear down guys like that.
I'm not a believer in any of the 4D chess theories when it comes to Trump. He's not a total fool but I really do believe he's just an impulsive ape-man who gets through life on force of personality.
