I don't really understand North Korea
From my extremely limited knowledge, they have neither the allies for any decisive victory against anyone, or the resources for a drawn out war, yet they continue to goad others with their missile tests.
Having said that though, is there actually a way of testing your capabilities for such missiles without encroaching on international waters?

got a hunch that some wouldn't be so ready with the fud re snowden if trump was prez instead of obama when he leaked that shit

By Red Blaster Go To Postgot a hunch that some wouldn't be so ready with the fud re snowden if trump was prez instead of obama when he leaked that shitIf he voted for Hillary he'd be considered great by his detractors. The fact that he wasn't #TeamHilldawg 100% that makes Snowden an enemy to supposed real "progressives", thus he should be executed. In the minds of certain individuals unless you are 100% on their side, you are an enemy.

Snowden was a traitor and did serious damage to national security. The public might never know about the scope of the damage he caused.
"Snowden did good and the country fucked him over" ????
Snowden committed an act of treason and ran instead of standing up for what he believed in and fighting it in court. Fuck off with the "did good shit". Dude is a coward.

I am not a fan of this move, it's clear this is russia trying to see if something as meaningless could work as a way to give Trump an excuse to keep his side of the bargain and remove the Sanctions. Fuck that keep hurting those bastard Oligarchs pockets.
Also do we want to see a trump regime go after a whistleblower? Weall know it would lead to a EO that favors businesses and gov't agencies.

By reilo Go To Post"Snowden did good and the country fucked him over" ????What did he do specifically that makes him a traitor? He handed over files to journalists and they released them themselves, under their own discretion. Snowden didn't actually dump or release files himself. Those files included detailed documents on how the American government was spying on its own people and others via secret and unaccountable courts. Frankly I think that is way more reprehensible to me.

You're suggesting he should have stayed and fought in court but that is essentially impossible. He was counselled by ACLU lawyers among others and they knew he would get crushed in court under the Espionage Act of 1917 which essentially makes classified files inadmissible as evidence.
By reilo Go To PostTHE STEALING OF THE FILESDaniel Ellsberg did the same and he got off free. So, what's so inherently bad about it? Honestly I'm pretty blown away that a supposedly "liberal" forum is more upset that he stole files instead of what those files actually contained like that their country was illegally spying on them.
Because I wasn't ignorant enough to believe that the NSA wasn't out there doing what their acronym stood for for the last few decades. If you were only upset that the NSA spied on the entire world in conjunction with our allies after Snowden then you've been sleeping under a rock.

The DIA did, however, reveal some details about the nature of the task force reports and the documents Snowden leaked that extend beyond government surveillance programs. In a separate declaration, David Leatherwood, the DIA's director of operations, said the task force reports contain details about:
•Military plans, weapons systems, or operations
•Foreign government information, intelligence activities (including special activities), intelligence sources, or methods or cryptology
•Foreign relations or foreign activities of the United States, including confidential sources
•Scientific, technological, or economic matters relating to national security
•United States government program for safeguarding nuclear materials or facilities
•Vulnerabilities or capabilities of systems, installations, infrastructures, projects, plans, or protection services relations to national security
•The development, production, or use of weapons of mass destruction
What's so bad lmao. Nothing just some serious state secrets, no biggie.
By Phlebas Go To PostWhat's so bad lmao. Nothing just some serious state secrets, no biggie.Yet the US government never came out and actually said how much damage "revealing" that stuff did. For all we know this is old info that was already out there or it's outdated or there's no value etc. etc. It's fair to assume if Snowden's reveals were as damaging as you supposedly claim they are, then the US government would be hammering that point home 24/7 in the past 4 years. And making the Snowden narrative about those leaks and not the spy stuff. And frankly that is not the case, so I can't agree that the bad leaks outweigh the good.
It's pretty viscerally disturbing to see what the NSA is doing, but nothing about PRISM is fundamentally surprising, or frankly, wrong. The US government has to have some level of unaccountability in order to perform its role in the world. It's just the truth.
Snowden seriously underestimated what he was doing, and he had a fundamentally uninformed, and optimistic view of the distribution of power among nation states.
Treason? I don't know. Feels like bravado. Leaking files and trying to wash his hands of it by blaming the media is pretty dumb. I don't think he's a coward, but he might be one of the stupidest smart people alive.

I honestly don't find much fault in my government spying on me, or Google hoarding my searches for that matter. Maybe I'm a liberal radical, but I just don't see that as a good ground to wage a battle on.

I don't think Snowden should be executed, I do think he should stand trial. If Ellsberg is his analog, then Snowden should do what he did and surrender himself to the courts, but he ran, and ran to the Russians of all places.

Prudent quote by Ellsberg:
I felt that as an American citizen, as a responsible citizen, I could no longer cooperate in concealing this information from the American public. I did this clearly at my own jeopardy and I am prepared to answer to all the consequences of this decision.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostThat's fair. I can understand that viewpoint way more than the "Snowden is a traitor execute him!" view.Yea, that level of sensationalism among conservatives is alarming for sure. There is a strange history in this country of making executions into reality TV productions.
Snowden has bigger balls than me, so I feel uncomfortable calling him a traitor. I do wish he had chosen to come back and face a trial, though.

About Snowden?
Frankly he stole the files, and should be brave enough to be put on court. If you believe in a cause you should at least stand up for it.
He did it with good intentions, but the dude has suspect decision making. Remember this guy also thought that you shouldnt vote for Trump or Hillary.

Some bonkers articles out tonight, I'll post them later.
- Details on the inner workings of the National Security Council, including that 31 year-old Stephen Miller is leading meetings.
- Trump responded to the NK missile launch by reading relevant documents on a public dining patio at his shitty resort, and since the only lighting was moonlight and candles, aides were using their camera flashlights (real secure there guys) so Abe and Trump could read the docs.

I think we have all been there.
Starting Civ for the first time, thinking that this should be easy, I'm smart enough to win this shit, and 3 hours later wondering why the fuck all the countries just declared war and why are the citizens so unhappy.
That's Trump.

By Kibner Go To PostWhy is Miller's age relevant?Unless he's some kind of prodigy or genius there is no way he has the experience or knowledge necessary for that kind of position at that age.
Besides his age, what in his background or experience makes you think he's qualified to lead a meeting of senior intelligence and military officials?
NK is basically fucking up lol. I mean Trump was on the verge of scaling back in Asia... Now with Abe in the US they do this and Abe has to ask Trump to standfast in Japan, and just a few days ago he made better ties with China, so I wouldn't be shocked to see China back off of NK..

Two people with direct access to the White House leadership said Mr. Flynn was surprised to learn that the State Department and Congress play a pivotal role in foreign arms sales and technology transfers. So it was a rude discovery that Mr. Trump could not simply order the Pentagon to send more weapons to Saudi Arabia — which is clamoring to have an Obama administration ban on the sale of cluster bombs and precision-guided weapons lifted — or to deliver bigger weapons packages to the United Arab Emirates.
