Holy shit. This is better than the effects on CW shows.
By FlutterPuffs Go To PostOh Trump IS unique.
Imagine a president stupid enough to let his personal thoughts be displayed on Twitter every single day.
His handlers probably need an hourly dose of valium to stop from having nervous breakdowns at this point.
I enjoyed the WaPo DHS/Bannon drama leak. Keep 'em coming.

We are run by people who literally don't know how to turn on lights.
Trump is not reading the laws he's signing.
Nothing bad can happen in next 4-8 years.

My fav part of that article is how he is all alone. His wife and son want nothing to do with him.
Contrast that with the Obamas. Hell, even the Clintons could fake it till they made it.
By Xpike Go To Postgood on barron trump thoOr he just hates it when people make fun of him and he has no rebuttal.
must mean he has some decency in him
Hoping that at the minimum we'll get some baseline reforms out of this shitshow:
- President must disclose tax returns
- President must set up blind trust
- If the first family wants to maintain a second residence, they should foot the bill for security

Mr. Trump remains intensely focused on his brand, but the demands of the job mean he spends less time monitoring the news media — although he recently upgraded the flat-screen TV in his private dining room so he can watch the news while eating lunch.heh
He often has to wait until the end of the workday before grinding through news clips with Mr. Spicer, marking the ones he does not like with a big arrow in black Sharpie — though he almost always makes time to monitor Mr. Spicer’s performance at the daily briefings, summoning him to offer praise or criticism, a West Wing aide said.
Flanking his desk are portraits of Presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. He will linger on the opulence of the newly hung golden drapes, which he told a recent visitor were once used by Franklin D. Roosevelt but in fact were patterned for Bill Clinton. For a man who sometimes has trouble concentrating on policy memos, Mr. Trump was delighted to page through a book that offered him 17 window covering options.christ
This whole standoff with Cali and Trump is hilarious.
I love that everything Cali does is basically a big middle finger to Trump. You want us to ban sanctuary cities? Fuck off. You want to threaten federal funds. We'll threaten not paying federal income taxes.

Washington DC needs Cali more than Cali needs DC. Come and try to fuck with the 5th largest economy in the world.
That chart is misleading as well, pretty sure Cali sends out more money to the Federal government than it receives, which that doesn't quite convey.
We do, but the chart still shows a general trend of red states needing federal funding more so than blue states. Shocked to see Kansas in the lower section. Shocked TX is in the upper section.
I wouldn't be surprised if the majority of that federal funding for Louisiana is earmarked for roads. Which are still super shitty, btw, and never appear to actually get any better. Ask anyone who has driven from/to Texas and had to go through any part of Louisiana on that trip.
Our roads suck too. Including our turnpikes.
Fun stuff from the Oklahoma State of the State Address by Mary Fallin today: in spite of a nearly-$1 billion deficit in the current session, she proposed eliminating the corporate income tax.
Current GOP orthodoxy on taxes is so fucking insane.

Kansas actually has great roads in my experience. Texas isn't bad either.
Maybe I just feel like ours are worse because those states border us.

“You’ve seen what happened in Paris, and Nice. All over Europe, it’s happening,” he said to the assembled military leaders. “It’s gotten to a point where it’s not even being reported. And in many cases the very, very dishonest press doesn’t want to report it. They have their reasons, and you understand that.”
Terrorist attacks are being covered up apparently
Of all details of that NYT report to dispute, why in the world would you pick the fucking bathrobe?
As Matt Yglesias pointed out, Trump owns a chain of hotels. The odds that he doesn't even *own* a bathrobe seem low.

DeVos confirmed via Mike Pence's tiebreaking vote.
What a fucking disaster. Someone who sees no use for public education in charge of setting education policy for the whole country.

I have 6 year window before my son hits 1st grade where hopefully this unqualified witch is out of office
The still constant "verbal" diarrhoea spouted by Trump is something else.
Never seen anything quite like it, particularly not from a head of state.
I would almost find his utter resilience impressive if it wasn't for the fact that it's also terrifying.
But where does he even manage finding enough time to do it? One would think there were more pressing matters at hand.

By reilo Go To PostI want to say I can't believe she was confirmed, but…It was pretty obvious once only two people crossed over that the fix was in. Wouldn't be surprised if they did it just to fuck with everyone.
Shout-out to Michigan going through that, so we didn't have to...and then them voting her in anyways.
By diehard Go To PostHow much do you think Harry Reid regrets "The Nuclear Option" now?
Hindsight is kind of a bitch. At the time it was that or let Republicans obstruct on the basis of obstruction only. I personally don't regret it and am hoping the Turtle blows the fuck out of the whole filibuster. Then they can't fall back on Dems obstructing while they put froth bills that fuck over SS or Medicare.
We live in a representative system that should operate on a simple majority. If we don't like it, then it's up to us to elect people into said majority that will vote within our interests. The obvious problem here being the gerrymandering, but that's another issue.

Gerrymandering doesn't have anything to do with the Senate though and that's where the filibuster rule lies. That being said your first point still stands. The filibuster is a garbage rule that Senators like because it gives them more power and it subverts the original intent of a simple majority to pass things along.
I think the GOP is terrified of getting rid of it. The eGOP would rather dems fall on the sword by filibustering than having to actually say no to the extreme parts of the party splitting their votes. I believe it makes it easier for Dems to add amendments to bills as well. Then it gives Dems free reign to pass all kinds of shit when they resume power.
The gerrymandering comment was tangential to the "simple majority" point. I should clarify: I want a government that is governed by simple majority in both houses, however, gerrymandering makes attaining a proper majority very difficult in the House -- given that Democrats continuously win the popular vote but somehow end up with less congresspeople every mid-term.
Gotcha ... I figured that's what you were probably going for. Either way I agree the filibuster should go regardless of who's in power. Until Turtle mans up and blows it up Dems should obstruct the shit out of the SCOTUS nominee. It's a good way to force their hand.

That's a dangerous line of thinking.
Why? If we lived in a supermajority we'd never get anything passed. Supermajority votes are as much of an obstruction to progressivism as anything. The solution is to vote in better representatives.
By HasphatsAnts Go To PostThat's a dangerous line of thinking.
How so? There's a reason the party in power doesn't ever blow it up.
