Are there any recent cases that show that a security loophole has been found?
its like people dont remember the US and the EU losing their shit at being unable to track foreign fighters and said facilitation last year.
the slop of these EOs is gonna leave a huge mess unable to be dismissed either way though
By Phlebas Go To PostPointing out the hypocrisy about the refugee ban and people finally giving it attention. Saw none of it when he did it.
But sorry I didn't suck Obama's dick
I don't think the point is to say they're equal guys... just to say that it happened without even a fraction of the attention

We can debate as to whether that credibility ever existed, but the United States Government certainly have acted like it does for as long as we've been alive.
From what I see of the ban though, like you guys said it was very poorly implemented.
Like without a second thought of the clusterfuck that can happen.
This is like playing Crusader Kings 2 blind kind of mistake.
EDIT: Did a google news timeline search (2011-2012) about the Iraqi Refugee Visa Delay
https://www.google.com/search?q=crusader+kings+2&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=950&source=lnt&tbs=cdr%3A1%2Ccd_min%3A2011%2Ccd_max%3A2012&tbm=nws#tbs=cdr:1%2Ccd_min:2011%2Ccd_max:2012&tbm=nws&q=Iraqi+refugees+visa
There has been a lot of articles in the matter, but it's not surprised that there's no revolt about it is there? The problems the executive order has caused is at a magnitude far worse when even people with green cards are unable to enter. This wasnt an issue with the visa delay, because it only effected the refugees.
Also, seems like the visa delay became a talking point by alt right during Obama's campaign for a second term, which is why it became a huge thing.

Like DY said, not every security misstep will make the news. Likely more going on that we'll never see.

It's hyperbole, but I'm leaving it up there because i'm mad as hell.
And fwiw, I can't remember the last time a President enacted a EO for the sole purpose of being cruel. Plenty that caused collateral damage and commited moral transgressions/compromises, but nothing this blatant. Usually things like this require multiple parties making one egregious mistake after another, not a unilateral decision
Unrelated, but relevant tweet.

Obama could've found a few million and an EO to write to get Flint some working pipes, but it was 'cruel' that he didn't.

unilateral decision to fuck shit up isn't some oddity at all either
By Phlebas Go To PostJust conjecture on my part but I'm assuming issues with the vetting process entirely. We don't know how through the process was.Are you fucking serious?
Considering that story I linked, stories like the one of Waad Ramadan Alwan, who said he was fleeing persecution. In the end it was a cover story and he got in through the cracks.
Cases like that are likely the deciding factor on this, at least to me. A blanket ban till the process is scrutinized.
The preference to Christian refugees I'm not sure if he has the power on that, so I can't say for sure.

And this affects thousands of travellers around the world who wants nothing to do with the United States.
With one stroke of the pen, Donald Trump has destroyed the credibility of this nation worked for nearly 8 decades to build.
"I am a graduate and I have a Phd. It has happened to a person who is working and who pays tax."sorry, but was that necessary? so if you don't have a Phd or are unemployed, it would be not so bad to block you from going to X-country?

Would've been unenforceable...
Like, that's why the border wall and the "rebuild military" EOs are categorically dumb because they require Congress to appropriate budget to actually accomplish. Granted, we fully expect Paul Ryan to bend over backwards for Trump, but that's a different discussion.
Everything about how this is carried out is categorically shoddy, and it looks like the shoddiness is by design so they can enforce it willy nilly.

'cruel', 'evil'... this some of the most subjective and loose wording ever. just quantify your arguments instead of this yousupportevil / whydoyounotstandagainstmadness politicking
The problem with Trump for me not that he's cruel or evil, but easily influenced and stupid.

Legal permanent residents cannot come home. Nothing subjective about this in the least

Spoke with a former colleague who works at the Baltimore IRC (International Rescue Committee) and she says they're expecting a mess by the middle of next week. They work in job placement and domestic programs within the refugee communities from state to state. This will impact them and how they operate moving forward in a big way - even short term. Talking about program prep and funding appropriations with the questions marks that are still floating and trying to anticipate further changes is a huge challenge.

By HasphatsAnts Go To PostLegal permanent residents cannot come home. Nothing subjective about this in the leastAm I really failing that hard to make my point here? Geez... What do you think the point of me popping in over the phebas vs the world stuff was about? lol
Obama did the same 'cruel' shit albeit much less messy, but all the same even the mention of Obama doing something like that was sending people to pitchforks on Phebas. There wasn't a fraction of the kickback - which was his point. It happened. And many people have reason to dislike those who simply forgot or don't put as much priority on criticizing Obama. His exaggeration may have been bad, but others have been exaggerating at the same time...
Also, 'cruel president' is something that inherently comes with the job. Its just a odd moniker. To add on, 'evil' is inherently broken as well because it places people beyond reason. In the minds of many (or enough) part of this could be justified. Not to say I agree at all. But 'evil' though? I don't need to lay out a history lesson for it to be clear that good intentions have burned down many a village.
You won't find me in disagreement over many of the coming complaints about policy and most of all their implementation. However, if you need to absolutely understand what I'm mad about (I can't tell if that's what you're going for here) its stuff like Warren co-signing Carson or other democrats in office playing nice because they feel they'll need those payback daps later on in their careers.

Get mad when the co-sign shitty policy they can prevent. Getting mad at dems acquiring political favors seems shortsighted
By Fenderputty Go To PostGet mad when the co-sign shitty policy they can prevent. Getting mad at dems acquiring political favors seems shortsightedThat's just such an odd qualifier for action and I think we'll always be in disagreement over it. I'd like to believe that a party with half of a country's vote can do more than roll over and point to all of the rules that everyone else isn't playing by, but whatever.
And I've outlined the reasons in my response why his false equivalence is wrong. Blame Obama for his inaction on ISIS. Blame Obama for allowing Syria to fester and landing us in this situation but do not blame him on that particular EO
What's up next for Bannon? Already got muslim hate on 1 milli here in the states. He's gotten the silly ass anti-immigration EO in effect. He just hit Jewish people with "All Lives Matter" on Holocaust remembrance day. Black History month starts next week. All Lives Matter month?
The federal court for the Eastern District of New York issued an emergency stay halting President Donald Trump’s executive order banning entry to the US from seven majority-Muslim countries tonight, following widespread protests at airports around the country.
The court’s stay is temporary; it’s clear that the White House will argue to have it reinstated as soon as possible..

Trump's EO have been reckless, they're not being properly written or reviewed and this one in particular had embarrassing consequences.

Probably the biggest possible victory that could be gained would be to force that Nazi Bannon out.
That will be the main point of my call to my elected officials tomorrow.
