By Fenderputty Go To PostWe don’t have a jobs issue. We have a wealth issue. People need to be paid more and wealth gap needs to decrease. Which this doesn’t do.Do you think we should increase wages artificially ($15 min wage), or do something like killing the Payroll tax/all wage taxes, getting people universal Medicare, etc?

Since a basic income or NIT are out of the question, you’ll have to federally raise wages via a wage floor. $15 is likely too high to set federally if places like WV have a median income of around that amount. I think 11$-$12 is where most economists peg it. UHC via single or multipayer system. Infrastructure bill. Restructuring the tax code in a less regressive way. (Article touched on this). Community college free. Student loans for bachelors are interest free and students should be able to file bankruptcy. The biggest thing is probably a more progressive tax code and a minimum wage hike though.
I’ve recently been looking into Land Value Taxes. Which would be great but also not a political reality.

Increase wages artificially.... could be wrong, but aren't all wages, taxes and healthcare by definition human made?

Do a basic income and you can get rid of wage floors.

When people say "artificially," they mean the government setting the lawful wage floor, instead of the market collectively coming to a standard wage.
But really it's just a deflection to defend corporations grossly underpaying its workers.

Rohrbacher is the new one here. He’s always been assumed to be a Russian stooge. (There’s leaked audio of Paul Ryan and everyone joking about this behind closed doors). This is the first confirmation he may be caught up in this mess though.
The irony of the pizzagate crowd defending an actual formally accused sexual assaulter is just peak levels of insanity
Sexual assault doesn't actually bother them.
It's just a weapon to be used as a bludgeon against your enemies. Cernovich constantly accuses his enemies of being pedophiles too.

Our dude's moral failures is whatever but we'll use yours against you with the quickness. How you think religion has survived this long. Cognitive dissonance and bred in the bone accepted double standards are the norm for most human societies. The Romans were excellent at this and writing narratives to support their wretched imperialism. It's why we use the term barbaric, rather than Romanic.

No, it's peak modern America.
By Fenderputty Go To PostThe irony of the pizzagate crowd defending an actual formally accused sexual assaulter is just peak levels of insanityPizzagate was never about what they said it was about. It was just another vector for them to attack the left.
For them, the strategy is it doesn't matter what they do, as long as they have a whataboutism to throw back. And it's gotten to the point where that whataboutism can be conjured from the deepest recesses of conspiracy theory. It's the ideal set up when the people in your country are so ensconced in malaise that they will happily believe the most nonsensical shit. It's all the hallmarks of an empire in its end days.
By FreezePeach Go To PostI mean i suppose this is true but i feel like things are changing because of how embedded it's becoming into dem vs repub. Like the the splits are black and white now. Might as well be south vs northSo much wealth has accrued at the top and the rest of us are just fighting amongst ourselves for the crumbs, and many have bought into the worst scapegoating of the most vulnerable in society. It's not all that different from plagues, famine and shit years in previous histories and then "well time to purge the Jews again since they're so obviously behind this" or "clearly there is witchery affront." Meanwhile the rich just hold out through the worst of it and don't spend money for proper refuse disposal or scientific breakthroughs like vaccines because "my pension getting taxed? Fuck yourself." Humans are garbage people.
What's really troubling is even if you get Trump and co out of office the GOP has just put in so many fucked Judges who will remain and do damage for years to come.

I'm curious about how we could realistically close this insane income gap. We need a minimum standard of living, but I wonder exactly what policy would be worth supporting. I know there probably isn't a panacea here, but yea.

Broadly speaking this is good? Sure it'll worsen Doug Jones's chances if he's running against Luther Strange rather than Roy Moore, but the end result is that Roy Moore does not become a US senator.
Guess it depends on whether they can actually pull it off or not.

America would be slightly less worse off with a different Republican, I guess.

Even in light of the Facebook and Twitter revelations, Trump is still going to bat for Putin re: election interference.
Best case scenario is that his ego is simply too fragile to acknowledge that anyone else helped him win. Worst case is whatever.

America, why?
I see the guns and recognize how absurd it is that he's even allowed to own a fifth of it all, but the plot twist with the dolls is something else. Tone takes a turn right after you hear about his wife being killed by a projectile. He's really out there living like it's "I Am Legend" with more guns than the whole GDI in Command & Conquer.
Donald Trump really has succeeded in forever ruining the respect of the Presidency. Mother Russia is proud.

fuck my life he said "I try so hard to be his friend" like he was a 15 year old drama queen starring in a remake of Mean Girls..... That's the level this jackass operates on. If we make it through this Jeezus our children are going to be like wtf
This guy is an asshole. Like the episode of "curb your enthusiasm" where Larry is trying to reset relationships with people. This asshole is just going to ignore the last year and come out in support of improving Russian ties.
This is the shit that really pisses me off.

Now all we can do is enjoy whatever dignity is left of America while it lasts because we're headed down the path of having our own Putin soon after having our own Yeltsin.

The one area I think may take a while depends on if we back out of the Iran nuclear agreement. We’ve already dropped out of the Paris accord. Talk about dropping out of NAFTA etc.
