I mostly lurked in Poligaf while posting every now and again. It was the community I frequented the most and viewed the most. I enjoyed the discussions you guys had and the random polls for the most obscure races you guys would always find. This is a game they would try to play, though. Cutting back on deferrals pulls tax revenue into the near term instead of the distant future, which allows them to show a smaller deficit increase than they would otherwise. It's a pure accounting game, of course, as this is now revenue that wouldn't be realized in the future, but that's not what they care about.

Yeah, I kind of feel the same. It's a big change, but at the same time, the OT community was just so good at everything, especially Politics. And despite what some of those alt righ hacks are now saying, I've seen a lot more echo chambers on Twitter, Reddit and even DailyKos now.

And I actually left PoliGAF for a while after the election. Couldn't handle politic talk spaces in general that reminded me of the election for while and I took a break from reading, then just posting and was only just now going back to regularly post...

Agree with you, but I'm interested in geopolitics so it's unfortunately not possible to ignore the USA. Also as ClownsAreATen is saying, it does provide some level of catharsis for the most atrocious political deed.

My uses for PoliGAF has changed over the past few years. It was an entertainment source for 18 months... I mean, Donald Trump? Hah. Until that got serious. Then we all convinced ourselves he could never win the election. And then we all lost our shit. Instead of avoiding PoliGAF after that, I instead swore off cable news and only followed that community in an attempt to not drive myself into an even deeper depression.

Now? I'm not sure. Split. PoliGAF was, duh, an echo chamber, but I'm not certain how much of that was actual groupthink and how much was actual objectively analysis and how literally no outside people would attempt to engage the thread for anything other than random shitposting. We were at least aware of our shortcomings. Trying to say we were left-wing was just silly-- Socially progressive, yeah, in that dreaded "SJW" sense half the internet is terrified of for some reason, because equality is scary or whatever. Some more extreme views from some members, of course. But considering the only thing close to a "requirement" we expected out of participants is that they not be literal Nazis I don't think that was a very high bar to meet.

Now GAF gets to be the home of literal Nazis because politics make Tyler's brain hurt or whatever. I've been amused the past few days seeing so many people mention how PoliGAF was a source of entertainment. All we ever wanted to do was be selfish and rant/cry! 401ks are one of the saving graces of corporate benefits if you can afford it and plan for retirement. It's literally free money for the middle-class that is the only thing saving a bunch of people into retirement. If this happens this would be the nail in the coffin for sure.

The original BCRA bill proposed to the Senate cut insurance from, I think, a million people who got it via their employer, so it's no surprise an early draft of the tax plan has things that directly impact the middle class.

Doing so in the original draft just ends up poisoning people's opinions of the bill right off the bat, and it's nearly impossible to get that opinion back
