Politics SLAENT [OT] Whose ready for Clinton V. Bush II? Oh...you neither? Ok, ZZZZZZ
- Page 1 of 1
I'll be working on the OT over the next couple of days.

So I feel it's pretty clear that Jeb is in the lead for the GOP nomination as Romney isn't running, Christy has way too many issues and has lost the big donors to Bush, Marco Rubio lost a lot of the Hispanic vote after he pulled his support for immigration reform, and Rand is going to be running up against the corporate world and Walstreet. But hey, the debates should be fantastic TV.
On the Dem side, obviously Hildawg is the front runner and although folks want Elizabeth Warren to run, I can't see her doing it. Plus, she can do more good as a Senator. Then you'll have your Bidens (lol) and Bernie Sanders. But this is Clintons to lose as there doesn't seem to be a new Obama like phenom on the rise.
What say you?

I'm kinda excited for the debates, not so much for the bullshit that Fox and others will be spewing at max levels.
By Dont Laughrand paul ftwYou're off to a promising start here.
fuck the neocons
fuck the libtards
fuck your taxes
I was very conservative when In first joined GAF (ask reilo) but became progressove during the ACA debate. I really am starting to become an independent leaning progressive. On many issues I'm disgusted with both parties. Particularly foreign policy and privacy matters. Not to mention the hack and forth of minority v. Majority in Congress.
BTW, anyone catch the Snowden documentary?

This upcoming US election is completely uninteresting to me compared to the European elections, meh.
I can't wait for the Republicans to completely change their party focus with coming demographic change. Outside of economic policies that go too far, it feels like the only difference between Repubs and Dems right now is that Repubs hate science and minorities so it feels like there's no real reason to vote Red right now.
Maybe the next version of the Republican party can be some Milton Friedman shit and support ten tons of immigration and destroying the police union. That would be cool and create some interesting possible debates and elections instead of the depressing stuff right now.
And it would be cool if when the Republican Party switches gears, they support something like a carbon tax. Plz.

By Dont Laughyeah, too bad this isn't another liberal echo chamber a la gafI don't mind conservative arguments or discussions with conservatives.
I mind people being obnoxious and abrasive for no reason.
Jeb Bush has the sinister six of Advisors with Reagan and Dubya's aides. Meanwhile the prospect of Hilary as the next in line is a joke because she lost already. We need better candidates on both sides.
As a moderate Republican, Huntsman is our best chance to retake the White House. However, he needs to distance himself from the tea party if he's going to win people over. That goes for whomever winds up as candidate. We need more Meghan McCain speaking her perspective on things. At least give us another election night meltdown.

Huntsman is only moderate in terms of social policy. While this is better than not, his economic policies are still bad.
I don't care if it's Hillary. Most important thing is to just keep the executive in the Dem hands right now given how awful the GOP is. Between the veto power and policy advantages of it, there's the SCOTUS to think about. A Hillary/Dem win means a massive judicial correction course which will go a very long way in numerous spheres.

You suggested that Republicans would support a tax. Not gonna happen...
...unless it's some sort of penalty for a hot piss test for people with food stamps.
Republicans do not like:
-the educated
-the poor
-minorities
"How to make the Republican Party actually legit" is a more fun game than discussing the current political landscape. IMO, the only thing that would make the GOP attractive while not doing a complete about-face is some sort of education reform disguised as something that will perpetuate the disenfranchisement of the trinity which it hates. It's working here in Michigan and (also Wisconsin). Cuts to higher ed left and right "to save money" because higher ed is considered a luxury that has to be earned than a right given.
Another reason I left higher ed. What if I told you...that you could finish your Ph.D. and earn less than $20k/year with a 4/4 load or more? Just ctrl+f "Fixed Term." Some of those peeps are making bank, but don't let them fool you.
Eff
That.
