By Dark PhaZe Go To Postalmost none of yall need a cpu upgrade
you're just addicted to the process
A 2500k is the bare minimum and that is aging quick af
By Kibner Go To PostSeems like Ryzen is pretty much perfect for Kado since he uses heavily multi-threaded apps a lot (image/video editing). It seems to be a push for people who only want to game on their PC's, though.Still holding on adobe and Maya renders before I jump ship, but that cinebench score has me all hot and bothered. Outperforming an 5960x???
Yes please!
Love how I get penalized for wanting to use cash and not credit when I tried to preorder two 1080Tis today smh
By the time I took care of everything and got funds to my credit union, they gone
ffs

By diehard Go To Posti'll prob go with that EVGA iCX version of the 1080ti, i assume thats going to be a thing.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I called NVIDIA store customer service because somehow I got a order number, but wanted to verify if that was right, because I don't think it is.
Took 15 minutes for the person to understand, despite me giving a order number that I have, and she kept repeating same shit and asking same questions over and over. Finally just gave her the dial tone.
When potentially spending hundreds of dollars on something , customer service needs to be on their shit. EVGA da gawds have never let me down in that area. This convo illustrated quite the difference.
By Dark PhaZe Go To PostSLI 1080ti?
smokey?!
Against my better judgement....probably
SLI works fine in BF1 from what I've read and that's the game I play the most at the moment. I'm anticipating getting that ASUS 4k/144hz screen when it drops so...
Wondering whether there's going to be much overclocking headroom on the 1080ti given there really wasn't on the 1080. Would effect whether I get a fancy EVGA one or not.
I think most Pascal cards top out around 2100mhz anyway?
For me it's more about the support, warranty, build quality etc

By diehard Go To PostDamn, the Ryzen 1700 getting beat by a 5 year old Intel CPU in gaming benchmarks is a bad look.Welp, so much for that hype train.

bro pls
just get an OLED or something, you doin too much
By Laboured Go To PostSmokey prepping for the 4K/144hz HDR G-sync life is exactly what he should be doing.I'm so glad I'm not in the same trajectory as y'all are.
I wonder how much longer companies are going to get away with adding a premium to 144 hz--it should basically be standard now
I love my gsync display, but I won't buy another G-sync ever again. 144 Hz is good enough particularly when combined with proprietary technology like fast sync

Told myself I'd sit on sidelines until my son hit his first bday. The time has come.
Got a ASUS 1060 to replace the 1070 I'm sending out, until next week's 1080Ti . Nvidia need to start cutting me checks. I help keep the wheels turning in this game, thank me phaze
Actually got a few other things today for my rig. In addition to the 1060, picked up the Corsair H110i and Logitech G900. I've had the Corsair H100i for a few years, and I think the pump was going bad, had air bubbles, or some other issue. It was making an annoying af vibrating noise. Made a video of it:
Went ahead and just replaced it with the H110i. I have been planning to get something new either way. The noise is completely gone. The fans themselves are a little louder since they're bigger. Mine was an older model, but these newer water AIO have much better tubing. and the 110i is a 280mm rad vs the 100i 240mm. Air 540 case came through again. Had no problem fitting a bigger radiator and 140mm fans.
Haven't tried the G900 yet.

The G900 tho...damn
I wish I could properly explain it, but damn. Played a few hours of BF1 with it in wireless mode and it was extremely responsive and smooth. Maybe it's the sensor? I notice a difference between it and the G502 I was using before it.

By reilo Go To PostWhat are those saying about the 1700?Benchmarks? It really comes down to what you want. Ryzen overall is a great value for HEDT as long as you don't need ECC. As long as you have a modern CPU, almost any game is going to be GPU bound at anything above 1080p.
When it comes to the 1700 vs socket 1151, Intel is simply still better at gaming, and the 1700 will be better at highly multithreaded applications (games really arent).
Ryzen is a legitimate choice for a high end machine now, and AMD hasn't had that in like 5 years.
Anandtech has a great deep-dive about Ryzen, and includes some reasons why Intel is still winning when it comes to things like games (big reason is they have the money to pay programmers to help optimize performance)
from the same tests. So Basically not as impressive when it comes to games. but like diehard said, multithreaded applications where Ryzen shines.
By diehard Go To Postyeah this thing is basically tailor made for KabroIt seriously is. I'm doing test renderings using Arnold in MAYA, and its CPU driven, I can't wait to test it out.
I can't imagine a situation where Freelance VFX artists dont get ryzen.
I mean how can you not at half the price?
By Laboured Go To PostCan't imagine life without my G900 these days. Thing of beauty. You're welcome, ragazzo.
So ... are you going with the 7700k, then?
By Zabojnik Go To PostYou're welcome, ragazzo.

Yeah boy.
Probably getting something in the next couple of weeks.
7700K with a 1080ti. 32GB RAM at 3000mhz. All the SSDs.
Packaged up the 1070 and installed the 1060.
A lot smaller card. Ran Heaven benchmark on default clocks --
1060 - 39.4fps
1070- 55.4
16fps difference. Suddenly those games that ran at 60fps are now down in the 40s
Gonna see how that translates with GSYNC on.
e: Played a round of BF1, 64p Conquest --
Min 51
Max 112
Avg 65.507
Left everything at Ultra except Effects (Medium). 2560x1440, etc.
Still averaged over 60fps. Would like to see Min be 60+, but overall it was smooth. Definitely felt a difference in that fluidity that the 1070 provides though and its higher frames. Wasn't any tearing or anything, bless gsync.

By Laboured Go To PostSmokey why you downsizing to a 1060?
I sold my 1070 a few days ago, with the anticipation of grabbing a 1080Ti next week when they release. Since I'm on Intel HEDT I don't have a iGPU on my motherboard, so I went and got a 1060 until I can grab the Ti.
I always try to get an iGPU on my motherboards now, just as a fallback in case my dedicated GPU dies. I haven't had to use that feature, yet, but the piece of mind it brings is worth the extra cash.
I came straight from Z68 to 2011, so I never had iGPU. Would be great considering how much I flip GPUs.
Only reason I'm on HEDT is because I needed all the extra PCIe lanes and features to support my tri SLI setup at the time, otherwise I'd probably be on the mainstream platform where new features get rolled out quicker. I think that's supposed to change with x299/Skylake-X / Kaby Lake X.

By Laboured Go To PostYeah boy.Noice. Pretty much the best you can get as far as gaming performance is concerned.

I'm not much of an overclocker - though that's gonna change with the new build - so I haven't been paying much attention to RAM speeds. Is 3000mhz enough?
SSDs. Are you going full
A lot of these SSDs and stuff like NVMe won't get you any real world, noticeable speed improvement over SATA SSDs, even though in benchmarks they get destroyed. You do get a smaller form factor with the former, so if you're into that, that's a plus.
Maybe our storage guru diehard can explain better

Because of super low latency, it definitely makes sense having Windows run off one (though I'm again not sure how noticeable the difference is in a real world scenario), for games though ... From what I've seen we're a long fucking way from SATA SSDs getting maxed out during level loading and such in games, let alone PCIe SSDs.
I'd love to hear a case for PCI SSDs for games. Gods know I don't need much of a push to spend more when it comes to PC hardware, lol.
