I was probably waiting for Vega at $699 but i i'll probably get one now.
Like $100 even really matters lol

699 got me thinking of sli again tbh in anticipation of the gdlk asus 4k hdr/144hz monitor, and it's faster than TXP.
whew
dunno if ill jump back on the titan train anytime again anytime soon

Feel a bit dirty about getting my 1070 too, could have waited 4 months and got a cheap 1080 instead
Luckily I'm only a 1440p 60hz pleb

By Smokey Go To PostGDDR5X will also be making its way to the improved 1080the 1080 has GDDR5X, the stock one is just getting some higher clocked stuff.

oh aight
thanks for clarification
By Smokey Go To Postyo $699 FUUUKibnerdamus
worst timing ever buying my 1070 smh
kibner im ded
Anyway the real problem I have is do I build a new PC now with the 1080ti or do I just get the GPU now and build something later in the year when the ASUS 4K/144hz HDR G-sync monitor comes out.

What does build now include, because ryzen looks to be the real game changer and that hits this week. Rumors are Intel will be moving up the release of its cannonlake chips to compete with Ryzen later this year but who knows.

Founders Edition 1080Tis on sale March 3
Everyone else March 10
Yeah I'm just extremely sceptical of AMD doing anything good ever in the CPU space, given the last half decade.
people troll nvidia for price gouging but their GPU prices have really been falling of late
volta will definitely be about 700

By Laboured Go To PostSomeone sell me on actually getting Ryzen. Zabo I'm looking at you.I'm in the same boat as everyone else m8. Waiting for them reviews / benches.
You have the 6700k, right? If that's the case, I see no point in upgrading right now. I expect Ryzen CPUs to be very good, but hardly worth upgrading from Skylake / Kaby Lake, if all you care about is gaming / non-productivity stuff. 6700k + 1080ti is a killer combo. Then, in a year or two, when 4K HDR monitors are readily available and game engines have hopefully learned how to fully utilize 6/8-core processors, you make the jump.
By Smokey Go To PostAssuming you're talking about non Titan Volta?
talking about 1180
volta titan will be 1000 as usual but the 1180 should be a really powerful card retailing at 700 when it launches
only question is what the vram will be, has 8gb been proven to be good enough for 4k?

M8 I'm on a fucking i5 2500K :lol
1080 used market already down to 380/400?
phew, might wait just a bit after volta to upgrade with the second hand market on gpu's being so strong

By Smokey Go To PostDumped my 1070 for $310 and I was happy . Second hand values about to tank.
was thinking "man I wish there was a gamestop for gpu's"
googled it, found sellgpu.com
they offered me 400 for my maxwell titan x lol
looked up gtx 1070 and they offered 222
wonder if its legit, not sure why titan x m has so much more value
Been at it since the 580....You've got a very small window after a new GPU is announced to maximize what you can get. Once that window passes it doesn't make sense to sell. I had to jump quick because the 1080 dropping by 100 was about to tank the 1070 market. As it stands I only lost about $100 selling my 1070. I'm OK with that.

2600k here.
If gaming benchmarks are within 10-15% of the 7700k, I'm more than likely going with AMD, because future proofing.

So are we not even expecting pure performance in gaming to be as good as 7700K out of the box?
Cus I'm not really up for waiting for devs to incorporate good core scalability. Mug's game.
By Laboured Go To PostSo are we not even expecting pure performance in gaming to be as good as 7700K out of the box?It really depends on what you want out of your build short / long term and how often you envison yourself upgrading. I remember a time when buying a new proc every 2-3 years was pretty much expected, if not strictly necessary. 2600k spoiled me and so going forward I'd rather get something that has a solid chance of lasting me a good 4 years (or 2-3 graphics card revamps). The 7700k probably would as well, but if they're comparable today in games that don't scale well and 1700x / 1800x runs away in games that do (and will), well, that's it right there.
Cus I'm not really up for waiting for devs to incorporate good core scalability. Mug's game.
Wait & see. Not long now.

Gamers Nexus: For gaming, it’s a hard pass. We absolutely do not recommend the 1800X for gaming-focused users or builds, given i5-level performance at two times the price. An R7 1700 might make more sense, and we’ll soon be testing that.
Also sounds like there's not very much overclocking headroom.

I hate the idea of upgrading to yet another 4c/8t processor. Intel why. AMD why. Consoles why.
By Facism Go To Postyou lads and your fancy processors.
This man's been on a Phenom II 810 for time
Phenom?
bruh
Seems like Ryzen is pretty much perfect for Kado since he uses heavily multi-threaded apps a lot (image/video editing). It seems to be a push for people who only want to game on their PC's, though.
By Laboured Go To PostPersonally think 4c/8t is going to be the sweet spot for the next 6+ years at least.I wouldn't be so sure. I don't think having less than 6/8 cores will be a huge handicap anytime soon tho.
Some of the results are all over the place ...
By Laboured Go To PostPersonally think 4c/8t is going to be the sweet spot for the next 6+ years at least.
Nah it will be 6 core+.
If someone is building today and plans to keep their rig for sometime, can't really recommend a 4c tbh.
Now that AMD seems to be a player again and is pushing 8 core procs now and 6 core later, Intel will have to react which they rumored to do with cannonlake.

Yep and I remember the smart money generally being on Core2Duo back then too.
One thing I will say is that higher cores are definitely going to see improving frame times.

It always comes down to pay more now for longevity or less now with potential of having to upgrade quicker than you wanted.
720p v 1080
Dual core v quad core
Quads are fine I just wouldn't advise going with one on a fresh build when AMDs about to drop the floor on 6c/8c.
