By Laboured Go To PostI'm not Googling any of these on principle. Zabo helpLinux text editors m8. I'm a vi purist myself. Fuck progress.
That HumbleBundle with Vegas Pro Edit is such a godsend. No more fucking around with Resolve's bullshit audio sync issues. Vegas is so much more user friendly in my experience. Render speed is great with it too.
Fucking hell my dads new pc is just constantly fucking up... Windows 10 keeps booting and saying "WINDOWS IS PREPARING. DO NOT SHUT OFF" but this can take hours sometimes.... no real way of getting around it other than waiting or never turning it off. Wonder if it could be due to hardware issues, but nothing I have found so far has fixed it.

Hard to tell what it could be, might be HDD/SSD related.
By Zabojnik Go To PostA format & fresh W10 install would probably answer that question. Hard to tell what it could be, might be HDD/SSD related.Sounds more like some problems with Windows itself and some data. But the HDD is another possibility.
Also just spare yourself the trouble and do a 40-80gb partition just for windows. You can format easier without being forced to copy the data from that HDD (except for desktop/documents and all that shit).
By 2002whitegt Go To PostHad a few extra pc parts and decided it was time for a new build. Why didn't you go with Ryzen? It'll be easier to upgrade to the newer CPUs. I don't like how Intel fucked over Kaby Lake owners.
Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX
Core i7-7700k
Noctua DH-15s
MSI z270i carbon
MSI 1080TI Duke
16gb Gskill
Really wanted the 8700k, but I got a good deal on the 7700k. Going to delid soon and overclock.
Probably my favorite build I've done, the Noctua cooler looks ridiculous on the itx board.
and of course it's RGB
Now I'll just wait for the new 1440p Gsync HDR ultrawide monitors to release and I'll sell my kidney for one.

Fractal released new R6 case - Fractal Define R6. They have a pull out radiator tray up where you can fit a 360 rad (Fractail makes a 360 AIO cooler). Really liking what I'm seeing from it.
How do I make my BIOS default to reading my OS from the SSD instead of the HDD? It keeps trying to get it from the latter and failing to boot over the last week or so, no idea why it's suddenly become an issue. Guess I could switch the cables/drives to put the SSD at the top of the stack, but would rather not

I'll root around in the bios when I'm back home, always wary of bricking something when I do that though lol

TWO rigs in one. They have workstation with 4 Quadro GPUs and Intels 18 core chip, and itx gaming at the bottom with a 7700k and 1080ti.

Really thought about it, and it does suck that the 8700 needs a new motherboard. But at 250 the 7700k was a good deal and should be good for a couple more generations for a gaming pc.
But you are right, sometimes I think I should have gone with something like a 1700x.

Fractal cases are fantastic. My R4 will last a long time.
Really liking the new one. Going to wait for user impressions and do some more research, but I may get it.
By diehard Go To Posttech jesus is where i go for case reviews regarding things like thermals
Will check them out, thanks.

Everytime i think about upgrading to a threadripper, i see those ddr4 prices.
I need minimum 64gb, while i could buy used
To save cost. but i end up talking myself to practicality. That being "you really dont need to upgrade cpu just yet. Ddr3 is fine for now."

Someone recommend me a slick, cheap-but-good USB hub or whatever those things are called. I need something that can be installed under the desk and not look like a monstrosity (so something with single row inputs, I guess). A USB port on the back of it would be a nice bonus.

Also, does it need to be powered?
By Zabojnik Go To PostLook good, but I should probably get something with a couple of USB-C ports for that future-proofing.You want a powered hub. A lot of devices won't work without one, especially if multiple are being powered by a single USB port on your computer (which has no guarantee puts out the full power of the spec).

This was the best I could find that had USB C: https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-USB-C-Hub-Port-Industrial/dp/B075D3R8TQ

Will do some more searching, but it's looking like it might be one of those things where there's tons of products out there and yet you just can't find one that's juuust how you'd like it. To this day it blows my mind that nobody has come up with a decent rectractable USB cable.
Just be sure to get a powered hub. That should be non-negotiable for this setup. You can try leaving the power cord unplugged to see how your stuff performs without it. If devices require more power, then just plug it in. You don't get that option with unpowered hubs.
Powered hubs can also let you have devices plugged in and working/charging even if your computer is turned off.

The reason why I want(ed) a USB port on the back of it is so I could have a USB-A to USB-micro cable connected and neatly tucked under the table inside a net or something, something I'd only pull out when I need to recharge my G900 or my wireless headphones.

Of course, a retractable USB cable would be even better and a fucking no brainer, but alas.
I guess you could mount a separate hub on the back of the desk or something for things that you always want plugged in but hidden better. There has to be a retractable USB cable, right?
Yeah, there are several retractable cables: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/s/ref=is_s?k=retractable+usb+cable+3.0
Monoprice has some that may be worth taking a look at.

That's not the kind of retractable USB cable I'm looking for though. I want something that works like an automatic cord winder on a vacuum cleaner.
My buddy bought the Noctua DH-15 and that thing is fucking giant lmao. We had no idea.

Primary advantage of a AIO unit. The air coolers may cool like 2-4 degrees cooler, but I would like to not have a huge fucking heatsink in my rig, thanks.
I've got a DH-15, it's been excellent for me. CPU rarely gets above 65c overclocked. You do need good airflow and space for them though
$299, 144hz, 2560x1440, IPS panel (Korean) that's...good...outside of the physical controls on the monitor apparently.
By reilo Go To PostBrehs ππ€¦πΌββοΈI was able to passively cool an overclocked C2D with a heatsink the size of just one of those. That's just ridiculous. lmao
Do you have to have a certain motherboard that is reinforced at those points to make sure it doesn't just snap from the weight?

I'll gladly take the few degrees of higher temps and better aesthetics of a AIO over this humongous block, my god
pray he never has to replace a RAM stick or troubleshoot in his case
He needs to fix the orientation tho. It should be exhausting out of the back of the case towards the rear 120mm fan..

AIOβs are rad, but a huge chunk of metal just makes the entire system look like itβs turbocharged. Like those old cars with part of the engine sticking out the bonnet.

He's got a giant top mount fan sucking air out at and the back fan is sucking it in, so this is pointing up to said giant fan. I'll have him double check.

the rear fan should not be an intake
should be a few intake fans at the front of the case, with the noctua's orientation flipped horizontal pushing air through to the exhaust fan and out of the case. the top fan could also be an exhaust.
just saying. if it's working fine for him with acceptable temps, then cool.
By diehard Go To Postwhere's the video card lol
Probably had to take it out to install that monster. Or running integrated.
