I need to investigate what's causing my system to hang up / pause for about 2-3 minutes at boot. I suspect it's USB related and the culprit is 99% the K70. I think it started happening the last time around as well, just before the key chatter got out of control and I had to send it in for repairs. Corsair doubling down on me, the cunts.
Anybody want a K70 for 50€ or so? All the keys are in perfect working condition. As in you press a key, a letter appears on the screen. Sometimes more than one. Some people would call it a bonus feature, but I won't charge you extra for it.
Also, I knew LED strips were good for something.

Steam controller arrived today. Kinda comfy, kinda weird. Not had much time with it yet, only tried out LA Noire with it. Think it'll take me some tweaking to get a good set up.

Smokey, I remember you saying somewhere that you geek out on networking gear. What is the lowest latency switch I can get for less than $100? I did some googling and the Nighthawk S8000 does actually make a small difference when compared to normal switches.
I'm considering getting a mesh network in my house and they typically only have a single ethernet port, which is why I'm also looking at switches.

what would you recommend in the SSD space?
By Smokey Go To Postwhat would you recommend in the SSD space?Oh there are lots of good SATA drives, the 850 EVO is still good, i definitely wasn't trying to bash the selection. We get tons of MX300's, BX300's, and 850 EVO's to save money. If you can spend a little bit more and have PCIe M.2 , the 960 EVO is the one to get. The WD Black SSD will give you a decent PCIe/NVMe drive for like $10 (250GB) more than a SATA/AHCI one, so if price is a huge concern but you can spare the $10.. that's a good option.
There is a couple quirks like you can't actually get a USB to M-Keyed M.2 adapter for any sort of decent price because there is some weird licensing thing where they have to come with a drive installed, which is dumb.
The vast majority of people won't actually notice a difference in day-to-day tasks with anything faster than a good SATA drive though.
Steam controller has won me over. Takes some tweaking, but having mouse aim, analogue movement and gyro steering all set up on one controller for open world games is pretty damn good.
Gonna try it out for DIRT Rally later. Gyro steering, gears on the pedals and throttle/break on the triggers.

One of my favorite little touches it brought back was that click on triggers like the GCN controller. Especially since you can program them to do something different. Like, only enable gyro control when LT is pressed down all the way.

Not found a use for that yet to be honest, not a fan of gyro aiming.
The haptics are great though. That’s some true HD rumble. Dunno what Nintendo are playing at with the one they’re using in the joy cons because I barely notice it.
Setting them to high on the right track really makes it feel like I’m physically moving something with my thumb.
Played about with using the left pad for movement and it felt like I was tapping an actual dpad.
Would love to see this kinda tech become more mainstream.
By Spengo Go To PostHappy I made the jump from blue to red switches.I don't like the clicky sound so blues are never good for me. I have red switches in my current keyboard and I think it works pretty dang well for gaming. Awful for typing, though. The lack of tactile feedback results in a lot of typos for me.
e: Browns are still my favorite general use Cherry MX switch. I have heard about clears but haven't tried them. I haven't tried blacks, either, but I know I would dislike them due to the higher actuation force required.

I ordered another board a few days ago with brown switches actually. My first compact mech.

Are there any good Romer-G keycaps out there?
And by good I mean any double-shot keycaps, which ought to be better than the disgraceful ones that come with the G613.

One does not simply mix Logitech and Corsair. I should know.
Yeah, I don't know, I'll probably get the G613 in the end, but there's a whole lot I don't like about it. If it wasn't the wireless champ, I likely wouldn't even be considering it. I'll buy it, I'll probably like it too, but I'll be looking to upgrade as soon as Logitech releases a new version.

So true. I'm also in Corsair's ecosystem tho, it's just shelved atm.
Alright lads looking for a bit of advice.
I'm sitting on an ancient phenom 2 x4 810 overclocked to 3.2ghz and a gtx 660. I'm looking to do a full build sometime next year, but in the meantime i want to do a rather inexpensive upgrade to this sarcophagus of a PC.
I'm thinking of a phenom 2 x6 1100T and a gtx 960 to carry me through for the next 6-8 months, can get both for a total of 140 Raheem Sterlings. Any comments? I know the "upgrade" cpu is also ancient, but it's the best my mobo will fit at the moment.

If anything, just upgrade the GPU so that when you buy new parts, that’ll still be serviceable in the new build.
I see there's a Rampage VI Extreme out and it's every bit as bat shit crazy as I would imagine. I need it. I'm still on a Rampage IV Black Edition. I'm never upgrading ;_;
does anyone know of an easy to put together computer desk that takes up minimal space
my current one is an embarrassment, the keyboard "slider" broke off and I put the keyboard and mouse on top of the desk by the monitor, it's struggle city

Mind blown
So all my parts are ordered and on their way:
-CPU: i7 7700K
-CPU Cooler: Cryorig H7 (the pump failure of the aio cpu coller solutions kept me away, I'm ok with dropping that kind of cash on one but I can't be without my PC for a few days while dealing with returns etc)
-RAM: G Skill Trident Z RGB 16 (2x8)
-MOBO: Asus - PRIME Z270-A
-Storage: 850 evo 500gb
-Case: Fractal Meshify C
-Power: EVGA 650W
Total cost was just under 900 due to some hook-ups, I have a $300 amazon giftcard that'll I'm gonna use sometime next year to upgrade my GPU (currently radeon 7970).

I have to be honest, when I realised my brand new PC had the word "Gamers" on it I was close to smashing it to pieces on principle.

Fair enough, like i said the full build is a long way off. I'm really just looking for an upgrade to run my current shit a little bit better in the mean time, and what i've proposed is pretty cheap tbh.
If you had about 140 (about $190) what would you do if a new build was off the table? I guess that's the question i'm asking here.

Your CPU is trash but if you were to put whatever you can into a video card you could at least play some games decently.

Probably do exactly what you proposed, or look for a similar deal. See if there’s any older i5/i7 chips and motherboards going for daft prices on the run up to Christmas. Bound to get something as people get desperate for Crimmas cash.

I'm trying to decide which faux leather colour / texture / type to go with for the desk pad I'll be making. My desk looks like this, just a tinge darker and not as shiny in RL.
Pretty much all the peripherals I'm using are black, so I'm thinking of going with a matching leather. No thrills, but It should complement the G613 and the black mouse pad very nicely, make it all look like a big uniform rectangle. The material is cheap enough at 15€/m, durable, water-resistant.
However, this Cuir leather-like material intrigues me. Love the natural leather look and texture, I just afraid it might clash with the desk's distinct kind of brown and the black keyboard + mousepad combo. I'm not using any pads at the moment and the current black on brown isn't a great look, though I suspect it's mostly because without a mat the desk feels kinda naked, unprotected. This stuff costs twice as much, so ... yeah, I don't know.
(It's 6am, I'm at work with fuck all to do. Please understand. I really should start a DIY thread one of these days, if we don't have one already.)
