Finally. But not really, because I'm still waiting on the Define C, which I made the mistake of ordering locally. It better get here in the next few days.
By Laboured Go To PostI'm sure I'm missing something obvious but why 2 of everything?SLI all the things. My little bro upgraded as well.

The new platform will house both Kaby lake-x and Skylake-X. It's weird, and first time Intel is doing it. It will have all of your standard, modern motherboard features. I'm currently on 2011 which is going on 5 years. I'm missing out on stuff like USB 3.1, M.2, DDR4 etc.
I plan to move to this new platform and upgrade to the 8 core proc.
I plan to move to this new platform and upgrade to the 8 core proc.
I considered waiting for X299, but it doesn't really bring anything crucial for my needs. As soon as I found out Z270 would make the second M.2 slot a default feature on mobos + adding 4 more pcie lanes, that was it. The move to June doesn't change a thing for me. I think I'm good for the next 4 years, by which time 6- and 8-core processors will hopefully be part of Intel's mainstream product line (thanks AMD, I guess), available at decent prices and actually make sense for gaming.
Btw, is the Kaby Lake X processors only supporting dual channel RAM thing true? Seems like an odd decision.

Looks like it. I think they plan to make it easy to upgrade to Skylake-X when you're ready, without having to buy a whole new platform.
I need a HUGE solid from you guys...
Can you check out these two cases and just see which you like/question me so I can reverse figure out which is best for my sister?

Aerocool Cyclops Advance Midtower Gaming Case - Window Edition - Model: EN55163
Basically for me the only things I care about is 3 HDD spots (makes the old HDD transfer easier), ATX (which both cases fit), and lots of fans/dust filters (she can easily clean it). Is there a red flag I'm not seeing on the cases or anything? The Cyclops supports up to 3 HDDs, the Project 7-C1 actually has a nicer lighting system that's easily manageable for her.
EDIT: I'm not seeing good things out of the Cyclops Advance, some bad reviews and it's been discontinued in places?

Project 7-C1 all the way. Should appeal to your sister's ... particular taste while still looking something that's not out of the 90s, but rather the 00s. :P

wednesday?!
By Smokey Go To Postwednesday?!Ok now. I need to find a Kaby Lake mobo with lots of slots for stuff and integrated video capability (in case video card fries). In all probability she won't overclock, so it needs a high base clock speed. The processor is going to be an i7-7700, so she won't need a Z motherboard I guess. Off to do research.

Sold one of my TIs. $600 for it. SLI has its perks but basically the damn cards are too fast for my current monitor situation and obviously the longer you hold, faster value drops.
So now thinking fuk it...Sell the other Ti for same amount and cop a new 2017 TitanXp
Back to the fast single GPU available...
I know from experience they hold their value better than any other GPU. Could probably get 900-1k for it when Volta Titan is released. Dudes were still getting 1k for Titan XP Maxwell even after 1080ti was announced.

Multi-GPU will be trash as long as devs need to give additional and significant effort to support it.

DX12 gonna make it worse but really, it wasn't as bad as I expected. Had SLI every new Nvidia gen, and 2014ish was definitely the best time for it.
New benchmark released!

Smokey.... you have a problem.
Tinkering with his machine is the equivalent of a guy tinkering with his car. Probably cheaper, though.
Wait until his girl says he spending too much time with it and gives him an ultimatum, give up the tinkering or her.
Whelp bad news... the case that I picked earlier doesn't have space for an optical drive (5.25 bay). Had to DX it and are looking for something similar to that... this sucks.

Yeah, music gear makes PCs look like dollar store shopping for hobos. $5k for an analog synth that only plays one note at a time? Normal. Now you need some FX and a way to record it. Add another $3k. And you still need to pay for a good computer at the end of it. Congratulations, you've spent $10 000 and now you can record one cool sounding note at a time. Now go spend another 15k on a drum machine and more synths.
Then you'll do all that and realize that was only the beginning, you're ready to get serious and get into modular gear.
Drop your next $50 000 of disposable income building this.
Use it to make terrible "experimental" bug music because nobody except Trent Reznor & Deadmau5 have time for really learning that shit.
Realize you should have just bought a graphics card all along.

The french horn I bought a few years ago is entry level gig horn (equivalent of a 1060 in video card terms) and was near 5k. Good mouth pieces to help with different style songs are $100 a pop. I can change the bell of my horn with one made of a different metal to give a different tone. Those cost $300-1,000. Then there are accessories like mutes, stands, cases, polishing rags, oil, grease, metronome, tuner, specialized training tools, etc.

Oh, you want to record your playing at an amateur level? Prepare to spend at least $100 on a mic and about that much more on a stand, boom, and cable. Then you need a computer to edit your recording. Possibly purchase expensive software if Audacity doesn't do it for you. You will also need a room with good acoustics to record in. You can either make one yourself or rent space elsewhere.
There is also the whole thing about buying new music. And hiring an accompanist is a near necessity if you want to perform most solos.
Want to do the same with a group? Tack on another $200-400 for an interface to record that shit.
I'm just glad I don't play something like bassoon ($14k for entry level shit) or harp (more expensive than most people's cars).
By Kibner Go To PostAlso, LFK, that wiring is making me twitch.
That's not even bad. It gets way worse if you've got a complex patch.
Fucking inferno, I can't get over how much smaller and lighter the Define C is compared to my old Define XL. I seriously checked the box three times, thinking they must've sent me the Define C Mini. Nope. My bro's computer (same specs as mine, which I'm hoping to start putting together tomorrow) is up and running and it's completely silent at idle / light loads. We haven't even started playing around with custom fan curves, just set the fans to 'standard' in the UEFI. Based Silent Wings 3 fans and 'zero RPM' graphics card & power supply. Absolute fucking heaven, m8s. #fuckAIOs
In not so great news, I'm might not keep the new monitor. Love the sleek no bezels look, size, res and colours, unfortunately it seems to suffer from a pretty severe case of BLB in the lower right corner. That's with brightness at 100 tho, I'll have to see how it looks once properly set up.

Fuck it, talking to PerformancePC to see if they can do a custom alteration to the Aerocool Project 7 C1 to add a 5.25 ODD to the front panel That case is nice and I still can't find a similar one like it that has similar lighting.

Officially back to one card, single 1080Ti. Had a buyer for the card I sold but then he backed out and had to refund him, put it up again on another site and it was copped within 2 hours. which makes me believe i'm being bottlenecked by my 4930k and confirms what I thought about the sli setup, that I was really being BN with that configuration.

Fingers crossed for that VA 3440x1440 144hz HDR (only 8 dimming zones, but better than nothing) panel in Q4, with monitors to hopefully follow in Q1/Q2 2018.

I've converted all of my PC peripherals over to Logitech. I've been using a K65 RGB from Corsair (w/ Cherry Reds) for a long time, but after getting the G900 and seeing the quality of it and the software, I wanted to eventually get a Logitech KB. Been wanting to go back to a full KB anyway. Copped the G810 Orion Spectrum KB today. It's a $160 KB, but I got Best Buy to price Amazon for $115.
Logitech G533 Wireless Headset
Logitech G900 Mouse
Logitech G810 Orion Spectrum
I've come full circle. My first mechanical keyboard was a Logitech 710+ w/ Cherry Brown switches. The 810 uses Logitech's own Romer-G switches. They definitely feel different than Cherry's. If I was to assign an equivalent or a close comparison on the Cherry side, I'd say they are very close to Browns. Considering I really like the feedback from Reds, this will be an adjustment.
I remember hearing in a video review how the RGB effect in the 810 is superior to other products because of the way the lighting is done under the keys. Can say in person it definitely looks more "solid" than Corsair's offering. The colors are punchier. Whereas on the K65 the entire key is lit and you can see the lighting under it, on the 810 only the specific letter or number is lit. Looks way cleaner to me. Corsair's implementation looks messy in comparison. When you cut the RGBs off the 810 looks like a standard KB, there's nothing particularly flashy or "gamer" about it.
Mentioned it before but Logitech's software is miles ahead of CUE. The G900 and the 810 are synced together and it worked with no problem. Managing all 3 peripherals is easy and the UI is very intuitive. Also haven't ran into any issues where games would flat out not work because the Logitech software was installed (see- Mass Effect Andromeda).
Really impressed with Logitech of late. Their stuff in comparison to Corsair, just feels more solid.
