By Smokey Go To PostI was never on the hard….pipe train540 was great, still have my HTPC in a full loop in my 540. Had to drill some holes so I could mount two 280mm rads, but only reason I did was because I got them in a trade. With 240/360 it'd be easier. Pump mounts just fine above the PSU.
especially not for a first loop
i could do it in my air 540…may not be a bad idea to anyway since it's my first, but i see some other cases that have wc in mind and there's a clear difference.
When you pick it up with all that weight though, it almost makes me uneasy with how much flex there is.
Both my HTPC and main PC are both on the same loops that I had when I built them (2 and 3 years respectively). EK Zero Maintenance Tubing + comp fittings + non dyed fluid (with biocide + anti corrosion additives) = literally zero maintenance. No gunk in either of my reservoirs.
Srs tho, take a look at the CaseLabs Bullet cases. Not too pricey, and amazingly well thought out.

Ohhhh I forgot you did it in the 540. I don't know how far back in thread you've read, but here's my current list from EK configurator
https://www.ekwb.com/custom-loop-configurator/shared/oW58ccbfe569ffd
I don't mind paying and I'm not trying to cheap on liquid. The one thing I was considering was going with a dual 5.25 pump res combo in the front of the case. I currently have my fan controller and rog LCD there, but both can go.
What are your thoughts on those parts?
Definitely do not get a bay reservoir. Puts the noise outside of the case, and is *really* hard to mitigate vibrations. I'm all about the interior pump/res combo. The one you have in there is good, but I'd recommend going a bit bigger on it. It'll make filling and bleeding a lot easier.
I'd also recommend going Parallel on the SLI connector, Serial reduces flow a bit, and there's plenty of head pressure with the D5 vario.
I personally like the ZMT over the duraclear, any chance you get to limit light exposure to the water is a great thing for longevity. The material itself is almost like stiff rubber, so you can run lines that look really great. I've done something like 5-10 different colored loops with coolant and dyes from various people. All of it goes to shit eventually. All of it clogs and/or stains blocks eventually. I don't have any experience with this new stuff from EK, but I had their old green coolant (before they went with Mayhems), and it was probably the least damaging of the bunch.
Last thing you'll need are angled bits based upon what case you get and how your loop is setup.

Appreciate the feedback especially on the bay res! Serial V parallel - does it make a huge difference in your experience? I thought serial is what you want.
Picked up the Logitech G533. Feel pretty good on my head. Gonna test it out with games in a bit.. Logitech software is great.

By Smokey Go To Post2/3 of the way there on cutting wires. now just need wireless mech kb. the freedom i'm feeling right now with the g900+g533I'm surprised it's taking this long. I guess it's not exactly compatible with the current rgb craze, but as long as you make it so you can turn that stuff off, wireless keyboards should last a good long while on a single charge, considering how big a battery they could put in there. Logitech / Corsair pls.
Just salvaged my sister's old computer and found out some things...
The old HDD I thought was a WD 750 GB is a Hitachi 320 GB... so yeah, that's not going into the new build. Plan is now to buy a SDD and two HDDs: one 2 TB main and a 750 GB/1 TB for storage for pics/documents. This actually makes things much easier now on the build end, not so much on the software end since I have to transfer any relevant files from it. There was also a EVGA GeoForce 550Ti in it... I remember buying that card like 8 years ago lol.
Sis's build Parts List (Edits daily)
Case: trying to find a mid ATX with Blue lights (she likes that)
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 Processor (4-Cores, 8MB Cache, Turbo Boost 2.0, up to 4.2GHz) *edited
CPU Cooler: Will get one but waiting on the CPU now *edited
Power Supply: Looking for good ones right now... (Corsair brands come up alot on Hazaro's list)
MOBO: One of the Big 3 on Hazaro's list, overclocking not needed doe *edited
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5 (diehard nailed it, deciding between multiple brands)
Memory: 16GB (Maybe Corsair Vengeance RMB?) *edited
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 120GB or 250GB
HDD 1: 2 TB (7200RPM) 3.5inch SATA Hard Drive (WD Black or Blue)
HDD 2: 1 TB 7200RPM) 3.5inch SATA Hard Drive (WD Black or Blue); need to pull old HDD from old computer to copy stuff to main HDD *edited

Frankman, just get an H60 or maybe an H100 if you wanna splurge.

Also look into the Kraken coolers. I've used nothing but Corsairs since 2011, but gave the x62 a try...Feels more premium than any AIO Corsair has out imo.
I think I've narrowed it down to the Iiyama XUB2792QSU. Catchy name, I know. Seems to have everything I want for now. 27", 1440p, 75hz, IPS, VESA compatible, good stand, solid design. Not exactly the most popular monitor, but it's 350€, has insignificant amounts of input lag, is flicker free and a good, if not spectacular gaming performer. I think I checked every 27" IPS monitor ever manufactured and the alternatives are either too pricy (for a budget / temporary monitor), too risky (korean imports), too old & ugly or lacking at least one core feature.

I'm gonna give it some more thought over the next day or two, since I'm still waiting on the parts to arrive. C'mon you Germans.

By diehard Go To PostDid you see a deal on a 6700? The 7700 should be pretty much the same price for another 200 mhz.Yeah I did, but just looking now the difference is only like $30. I thought there was some issue about the 7700's having no heat sink, but maybe it was the K model. 7700 it is, though it takes her into Kaby Lake territory.

EDIT: basically she'll need a good non-liquid CPU cooler.
Smokey, this article has some suggestions for wireless, mechanical keyboards.
My favorites are the Majestouch MINILA Air 67 Key (for when you are couch gaming) and Majestouch Convertible 2 for desktop stuff. They both have at least two varieties for different switches.
I've used a Majestouch/FILCO board before and it was high quality. Would definitely recommend that brand.

Man, I'm really tempted to jump on the mx red switch version of that 67 key for when I game on the couch.
It's blue tooth so I can tie it to both my Steam Link and my PS4 without needing to change dongles. It has only the keys I would need when not at my desk which makes it tiny enough to easily put away when not in use.
I've already bought enough gadgets lately, though, so this will have to wait.

Ok I got two more cases that are not "garish" (Alienware) but my sis liked them

I just wish I could find a Phanteks/Corsair/Fractal case that had the lights/freaky design. She wants a windowed side with like a weird face and "blue lights". The only thing I care about is it has to be mid-tower ATX. Once she picks a case I can nab the MOBO.

Curved (not the 4k one tho), Q3, 2k$/€ price confirmed for the P27UQ.
where are you seeing the confirmed price?
By Smokey Go To Postwhere are you seeing the confirmed price?Seen in mentioned in an article about the recent Asus ROG Berlin event. Also saw a YT video from said event in which an Asus rep confirmed it.
It's probably going to be as amazing as the specs suggest, although I'd be lying if I said I was confident Asus were going make a perfect HDR monitor on the first try. First HDR + local dimming + HRR + IPS implementation in a monitor ... yeah, good luck with that quality control Asus m8s.
By Zabojnik Go To PostThe struggle to find a cheap, but good enough 27" 1440p IPS monitor is very real.IPS sucks for gaming. The glow makes anything dynamic look washed out, IMO. I'll take the slightly non-uniform colors of TN (which is impossible to notice when gaming or watching anything) over that any day of the week.
I totally get it for static browsing, or any sort of media production, but it's an inferior technology for anything dynamic. I think people still think of TN panels as "the cheap shit", when there's a range of TN quality from cheap shit to really beautiful panels like the S2716DGR. The color reproduction is absolutely fantastic. I don't really care if the color on a website is two shades off on top and bottom, though.
What you really should be holding out for is a VA panel.
By Smokey Go To PostAppreciate the feedback especially on the bay res! Serial V parallel - does it make a huge difference in your experience? I thought serial is what you want.Serial reduces flow rate (not good), and is used when your pump doesn't have enough head pressure due to the size of your loop. Basically, you don't have to worry about it unless you're running some crazy long lines with a huge res and 3+ GPUs. Parallel is better in all other instances.
Glad to see we're skipping 4K gaming altogether. Thank you, AMD.

I was pretty certain I was going to get the HP Omen X 35, but at that price I expect near perfection, which, yeah. VA has its own problems. I don't necessarily disagree with what you said, as I'm not a fan of IPS glow either. In fact, when I think of why LCD is a shit tech that should've died 10 years ago, BLB and glow are the first two things that come to mind.

I did however get the chance to compare a couple of reasonably well calibrated TN and IPS monitors recently and the difference in colour reproduction is quite noticeable side-by-side, even with newer TN panels. In games and graphics benchmarks (I used Valley), not just websites. IPS glow actually didn't bother me as much as I thought it would, though the monitor in question didn't suffer from a severe case of it.
All in all it was enough to make me decide for an IPS monitor, since it's going to be a temporary solution anyway. I think I saw every review of that Dell monitor you mentioned and for a while I was seriously considering it. I kinda still am, lol. But, yah, I don't know m8. At 600€ it's almost twice the price of the Iiyama I'm contemplating. That's well outside what I'd consider 'cheap' and 'temporary'.
This shit is way harder than I thought it would be.
The Dell SG27 is amazing because it goes on massive sale all the time. I bought mine from BB for $460. Just keep an eye out through slickdeals or something similar.

Anyways, that's a problem for 2018. About to click through on that 27" 1440p IPS Iiyama monitor. Should serve me well for a year, possibly two. After that I'll either sell it or keep it as a secondary monitor. I'm sorry, HP, but 1300€ for the Omen just doesn't seem worth it right now.

There is no monitor that I'm currently looking to upgrade for. Waiting for, ideally, a 24" and 4k (but scaled for UltraWide in both resolution and size), HDR, VA/IPS, 100+hz, and <10ms input lag. I might be waiting a while.

Will be moving later this year to the 4K / 144hz with all the fucking trimmings monitor (27") price be damned.
