By Zabojnik Go To PostThanks Smokey. Your move, Horse.
Super tacky, but I can see the mini display and various other performance / status indicators becoming the next trend. EVGA's ICX paving the way.
I'm coming to appreciate the Founder's Edition cards more and more.
Because I rotate out the stickies all the time. This thread got a good core group posting in it now and it's self sufficient.
By Laboured Go To PostEVGA custom cards up for pre order.jank website made me miss it

By Smokey Go To PostWatercooling adventures continue. May be getting a new case…I'm selling my Define XL. Think about it, Smokey.
I spent part of the day looking at more monitors. I think I better get a really cheap & basic 27" 1440p one, if I plan to upgrade to a top-tier (ultrawide) monitor later this year / early next year. Otherwise, if I decide to spend considerably more on a nice 27" 1440p 144hz TN / IPS with g-sync, I "fear" I might just stick with it, lol. Any recommendations for a ~300€$ 27" 1440p 60hz screen that's decent for gaming?

Thinking about a Phanteks or an Inwin at the moment. Agree about a cheap monitor. What about Dell monitors?
By Smokey Go To PostThinking about a Phanteks or an Inwin at the moment. Agree about a cheap monitor. What about Dell monitors?Inwin gets my vote for sure. Always seen them as the manufacturer / cases I'd go with, if I were to go all out. They stand apart.
I just started looking at what Dell has on offer, actually. Always liked Dell monitors, owned a couple. I'm checking out the Dell U2715H atm. Looks very ... Dell, which is nice. At 430€ it might be a tad too pricey compared to what I was hoping I'd be able to find in the 27" IPS 1440p 60hz category, but I'd probably have to start looking at Korean monitors, some of which of dubious quality, if I wanted to go significantly lower. Let's see ...
By Kibner Go To PostLook up the Zowie monitors. They used to be called BenQ. Made for gaming but still good prices.I came across the brand earlier. Most of their 27" monitors seem to be a combination of TN / 144hz / 1080p. Perfectly fine for gaming, but I think I'll be going with 1440p / IPS / 60hz, which is closer to the quality / performance / price ratio I'm looking for. Prices are between 500-800€, which means I might as well buy the Dell 2716DG. 27", TN, 1440p, 144hz and gsync for 600€. I still might. Some of these new TN panels are rather good.
Stains on the reservoir, micro fan on the mobo. 6.5/10, wouldn't look at it again.
That's some dedication. These guys are usually pretty heavy tinkerers (parts in and out), which means regular draining / cleaning / uninstalling / reinstalling. Too much work and time for too little gain as far as I'm concerned. I love the idea of doing it, but yeah, not worth it for me.

By Kibner Go To PostI think it's for the south bridge?
is that little fan supposed to actually do something tho. how much cooling could it possibly provide. i didn't even notice it lol
south bridge you are so old school lol
It's cooling for VRM's. But mostly it's for looks. That's a Sabertooth Z97 if you wanna look it up.
Oh i guess they say its for airflow for the "armor".

E: I knew about the north bridge no longer being a separate thing but didn't realize the south bridge had joined it.
Intel calls the "junk not on the CPU" the Platform Controller Hub now. You prob have seen PCH somewhere.
I thought that was an older mobo. Haven't seen one of those fans in a long while. I remember it driving me crazy on an old Gigabyte board, I had to remove it and stick a mini Zalman heatsink on. Good times.
Man, I'm really out of the game now. I haven't bothered to overclock since the Core 2 Duo and I think that has left my current knowledge lacking since I haven't had to learn that much about different components outside of compatibility.

EK Water Blocks, the market leader in high-end liquid cooling for PC products, is proud to introduce the EK-CryoFuel, the most chemically stable coolant that provides enthusiasts and gamers with the best possible level of performance, color stability, and thermal efficiency.
The EK-CryoFuel is a new revolutionary coolant for PC liquid cooling systems. Our mission was to deliver the most chemically stable coolant that would provide enthusiasts and gamers with the best possible level of performance and thermal efficiency with the emphasis on color stability. Designed specifically for computer liquid cooling systems, we found our inspiration for CryoFuel in cryogenic fuels that are used at extremely low temperatures to operate in space machinery.
EK-CryoFuel coolant is a pure, non-toxic coolant based on the patent pending chemical formula, which prevents the creation of any sediments in the liquid cooling loop. Liquid cooling users can rest assured that the EK-CryoFuel coolant, with its very low viscosity, will not clog or damage their water blocks and other parts of the loop when used with EK-DuraClear or EK-ZMT tubing.
EK-CryoFuel also contains synergistic corrosion inhibitors to protect metals commonly found in computer liquid cooling systems. It has been tested in accordance with BS5117 (ASTM D1384) and found to meet corrosion standards for copper, brass, aluminum and stainless steel. This coolant also contains scale and biological inhibitors to help prevent fouling – thus promoting long operational life and high thermal efficiency.
All EK-CryoFuel mixtures are biodegradable (90% in a period of 10 days) and will not remain in the environment or cause any bioaccumulation. EK-CryoFuel offers a 2-year shelf life from date of bottling..
Neat. Something else to add!
By Smokey Go To PostdiehardYeah i have the Evolve ATX, got it right before they came out with the tempered glass version like an idiot. Came from the FT02. Both are pretty great tbh. My Phanteks is awesome quality, i was actually surprised with either how high quality it was or high how quality of a case $150 will get you these days..
talk to me about phanteks
you have a case from them?

The Primo looks like it can handle any water cooling solution you throw at it, and the Evolv looks to be able to handle it too. Primo is such a large case tho
The Air 540 can handle it, but as it's name says it's primarily for air which it's really good at, but wondering if i should get something more modern for water (air 540 is 4 yrs old)
By diehard Go To Postthe Evolv should handle it great as long as you don't need more than two 3.5'' hdd's.
i don't. i only have 1 now and ideally would like to go full SSD in the future
i'll have to take a further look at the evolv
you have any pics of your rig in it?
By diehard Go To PostI'll take a picture tonight
You have a ATX board?
By Smokey Go To PostYou have a ATX board?yep
those custom water loops are hot af. gimme! :O
anyways, as I've stated before, my next workstation will definitely be a dual 2687w Xeons.
Diehard, this may be a stupid question, but do you know If i can replace those Dell motherboards with say a Supermicro model inside a T7600 case? Those EOM mobos are a bit lacking in USB 3.0, Sata III and SAS Features.

You're running SLI?
Evolv may work!
Can remove those HDD bays for some more space. What don't you like about the case?
Looks to be a decent size, and maybe a smaller foot print than my 540.
I don't know what it is about the Evolv. I used to think it looked great, really great. These days ... ehhh, not so much. I think it's the bowed front panel that's started to put me off. It's getting old rather fast. Not exactly a timeless design, imo. Feels like it's already past its prime. To me anyway.
Still a brilliant case by all accounts, mind. But it wouldn't be in my top 3, if I went with a glass window'd case.

Yeah those hard drives are really easily removable, and it still has space for 2 on the other side that you can't see (i have 4).
The only thing i can say that isnt great about the case is that its not packed with removable air filters like the FT02 was... it will still get some dust in the case.

Smokey, I can vouch for the G933's. Had no problems so far, they sound very good for wireless headphones, the mic is pretty solid too. Not as good as say a standalone mic a la ModMic, but it more than gets the job done. The overall build quality is satisfactory as well, though I wish they used better glue on the upper / head foam pad, as it's started to come off at one end. Nothing that can't be fixed in minutes tho.
I'm an open headphones taliban, btw. I only went with closed wireless cans because I couldn't find a decent open gaming headset at the price range I was looking at (or at all), but I have no major complaints regarding comfort and listening fatigue. I've used them for hours on end without feeling the urge to put them down, which is very rare for me. I would still trade them for a quality open wireless headset, but, yeah.
Be warned that they're quite bulky and heavy, especially if you're coming from wired Senns & the like and have never owned wireless headphones.

Hmm. I've been using Sennheiser 363D for years now. The wires are getting a bit annoying now that my son is fully capable of grabbing and reaching anything he sees.
On gaf somebody mentioned the Logitech g 533.
It's between 533/933/Corsair void
They're all about the same price with the 933s being refurbished from Newegg. I'm leaning towards Logitech because the g900 has been spectacular and their software is really good

If the 533's were around wen I was in the market, I would've probably gone with those. Mostly because I really only use headphones when I'm playing online / coop, which isn't very often. Based on my reseach at the time, you can't really go wrong with any of the ones you listed.
Also, time to up your cooling game, Smokey. Again.

Smokey plz. If you're going to run a loop, you get a fkn CaseLabs or go for Lian Li of you're into the tempered glass thing. There's still nothing better.
Also, give up on hard piping unless you want to spend $500-600 on bits alone, or spend hours rebuilding the loop after a new leak appears every other month.
People set those up, take pics, then break it all down for the next build. Only person I know of to run those reliably was a professional plumber that started to do builds on the side.
Personally, I'm going for the Bullet as my next case. The space efficiency and layout is amazing.

I was never on the hard....pipe train
especially not for a first loop
i could do it in my air 540...may not be a bad idea to anyway since it's my first, but i see some other cases that have wc in mind and there's a clear difference.
