By blackace Go To PostI mean, the amount of ring chasers who actually could make a difference is way down.
But he went out and got the big 3 by trading for Love.. then he made the trade for JR and Shump. All 3 players played huge roles in their chip.. As well as Frye.. Then he goes out and gets Korver? Only moves that were "meh" by him so far imo was signing TT and JR to them sizeable contracts, but I can understand why it happened.
I mean Presti had one of the biggest 3 ever… if they wouldn't have quibbled over small money (in basketball terms) that big 3 would have been insane.. But even after failing at that he didn't find ways to put talent around his two mega stars.. Even in Miami they didn't chip until they got some decent players on the bench.
But Griffin PAID those guys. Which helped in retaining them. If they had tried to short pay Love... he woulda been out of there as quick as Harden was.
I agree. Griffin has done a better job of surrounding their talent. But it helps that he's been allowed to go DEEP into luxury tax to retain his core (that he traded for) AND acquire new players.
I mean, if he was allowed, i'm sure Presti would have KD, Harden, YNB on Max, and Ibaka on 75% of max. And looking at Tyson Chandler going "Cmon breh....".
So the Hawks think they can compete again after the recent win streak? Maybe they are just trying to get contenders to sweeten the pot. ATL even if they make the playoffs aren't even going to sniff the Conference Finals.

Just because an owner opens his pocketbook doesn't mean instant success... I am not sure how hard Sam tried to resign Harden but he could have done it, but he bet on Ibaka instead..
By Colonel Nasty Go To PostNo Gordon should be interesting. Been the biggest contributor to our success not named James
Yehhh
Expecting a L tbh
What u think CRUD

The franchise wanted to hedge it's bets. And it was well known that they didn't want to go into luxury tax to retain all 4.
I don't disagree spending != instant success. But an unwillingness to spend == far less odds of ever achieving it.
Getting a big 3 is very hard. Retaining it, isn't. Retaining it and not going over the cap basically means "2nd round at best". Which is basically where the Thunder found themselves post harden. I mean, it didn't help that they prioritized a role player (ibaka) as part of their big 3 over a top15 player (harden).

If you're not going to blow it up and tank why trade Korver for Dunlevey? That move definitely didn't help the imidiate

How is that a historical re-write? You just said the same thing I did but tried to shit on what I just said..
If he would have just said Harden is better than Ibaka he could have easily resigned.. but it really seemed like he thought Ibaka would bloom and Harden had peaked or was close to peaking.. and this season his former big 3 all had triple doubles..
By CRUD Go To PostYou root the best you can in times like this.Charlotte might come back and make it a game but that's what they've been doing all year. Its played out. A blowout would do them some good.
