By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostYour team drafted their best player at 9th…..
And they got Terrence Ross & Rafael Araujo at 8th. If you think either of those two dudes are leading you to the promised land, then tank away.
Lowry is their actual best player but that's a different discussion.

I feel that is more endemic of your teams bad scouting than anything, Drummond went 9th after Ross (in a shitty draft), and Iggy went after Araujo (in another relatively shitty draft)
This draft is supposed to be better than last years (shitty) draft too.
By blackace Go To PostKAT's ppg get him in regardless what advance stats might saySo Hayward gets in then?
Wins arent advanced stats btw

Durant, Kawhi, Davis are locks
Hayward has to compete with: Griffin (if healthy), Green, Barnes (lol), Wiggins (lol)
Gordon should get in.

Also, all things considered I'm not actually sure it's really better having Drummond than Ross.

Who was the ESPN stopge that wrote after the draft and couple years into his career that Drummond will be a perennial All Star and best big in the league?
By livefromkyoto Go To PostAlso, all things considered I'm not actually sure it's really better having Drummond than Ross.Let's not act wild here...
By reilo Go To PostWho was the ESPN stopge that wrote after the draft and couple years into his career that Drummond will be a perennial All Star and best big in the league?Drummond just happens to be around during another big man golden era... if he would have had D12's timing he could have been that
Naw that's... that's a high bar man. Prime Dwight is a GOAT defender candidate and Drummond just ain't that. He's Eastern DeAndre Jordan at best.
By blackace Go To PostNever said wins were… Hayward gets ahead of who? Isn't he tied with Wiggins for PPG?Draymond is going to get in at 10.8 ppg.
Drummond just isn't all that good at defense though..
By p s y Go To PostDrummond sucksHe isn't great but neither was D12

His 4th year numbers looked exactly like D12's 3rd year... but he didn't quite turn the corner like Dwight

Just ignore Iggy was a finals MVP..... He was the man on Philly for a couple seasons too..... but you're right who wants that?
Drumond had 25 points and 18 rebounds 2 days ago and is AVG 14/13 right now..... but really who wants that?

He would still be a Good defender if they didn't change the rules to accommodate D"antoni ball
By diehard Go To Postrim defense is still extremely important and he isn't very good at it.Which is weird, cause he's as hyper athletic as Gobert. Maybe can't jump AS tall, but he's wider and stronger.
Drummond is weird. It feels like we should be talking about him like we talk about all the really really good bigmen who never had a jump shot or any range.
But he's just never got over that final step.
didnt bother to watch the game last night
looking at january's schedule if we're not 4-5 games above .500 by the start of February I'd consider it a failure

maybe better for the political thread, but maybe enes gulen was right all along because turkey is kind of a shit show right now

Yeah but Knicks tho.

A guy with a limited offensive game who can't protect the rim and hits .444 FT%, but you have to pay him like an all star throughout his career. I mean no, he's not terrible, but I'm not sure paying Ross half as much to play like 6MOTY is actually that much worse.
Speaking of Giannis, read this: http://www.si.com/nba/2017/01/03/giannis-antetokounmpo-milwaukee-bucks-greek-freak-jason-kidd
(Drummond's defense is not even average; it's bad)

Knicks tho isn't a counter argument
Saying Ross is a 6moty isn't a counter argument
So I am assuming I won this and we can all agree a top 10 pick is not a bad thing when it's all said and done.
Drummond's defense is bad, rule changes or not. Bigs are still extremely important to a defense even in modern times. Old man Duncan anchored an all time great defense last season and they're not as good as this year.
By reilo Go To PostDrummond's defense is bad, rule changes or not. Bigs are still extremely important to a defense even in modern times. Drummond doesn't rotate well and doesn't do a good job of affecting shots when he is in position which makes it much more appealing for teams to get into the paint against him despite his great rebounding prowess.
Like, Boozer is an example of a big man with good rebounding skills but poor defense. The difference is there were other defenders around him, especially in the paint. This worked out well in Chicago because Noah could go after stopping people without worrying about getting the rebound and vice versa for Carlos.

Y'all were ballin the first half. Looked like a L was coming, but then you got blasted in the 3rd. I mean wall was doing between the leg passes on pnrs and harden was struggling hard.
Yea I was excited when I checked the box and legitimately scratched my head when I saw we lost by 10. Just of been a horrific third quarter.
By Zeus Ex Machina Go To PostKnicks tho isn't a counter argument
It might be the most effective counter argument.
And sure, a late top 10 pick's not a bad thing to have, it's just not worth throwing the next 50 games for. The Knicks have had the 8th pick twice in the past few years, and come away with Channing Frye & Jordan Hill. Game changers.
The ESPN.com now tab with all the tweets has some terribly meaningless shit.
Looks as plain as his game.

This is such a pointless debate......
You know everyone involved in those picks are now working for the Pacers......
If anything under Phil there has been an emphasis on European players. With Clarence Gaines as head scout......
The 2 rooks the knicks picked up outside the draft are playing significantly better than expected and are rotation players
How does any of this make getting a top 10 draft pick a bad thing?
By Slizz Go To PostThe ESPN.com now tab with all the tweets has some terribly meaningless shit. This kind of piqued my curiosity; would there be any interest in me taking photos of the various foodstuffs served at Pelican home games? There is a good bit of stuff that I'm pretty sure isn't served at professional arenas outside New Orleans.

I would enjoy it.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostIt might be the most effective counter argument. It most certainly is. Whats to be gained from the Knicks winning as many of those 50 games as they can? Getting to watch a couple playoff games (maybe) isnt worth the drop in the draft. There will be no building of a winning culture because the rosters gonna get turned over at least once in the next 1-2 years. Sure winning would be good experience for KP but playing with jackasses like Melo and Rose is bad experience whether the Knicks get to lose in the first round our not. No when the ashes of the Melo era clear in a few years I want KP surrounded by as much youth and potential as possible. Thats our best shot (given we draft well and dont trade it all away).
And sure, a late top 10 pick's not a bad thing to have, it's just not worth throwing the next 50 games for.
So I'm rooting for the Knicks to lose. I don't expect them to intentionally tank but I'm hoping they fail.

For starters, he'll go MIA in the post season. Again. For the 4th? time.
And will that cause him to hide in the regular season again?
You rarely see a guy that is just so damn shook by the post-season.

This draft is currently 10-12 players deep...so tanking for "just" the 8th pick is fine this year.
Although it seems like it will be guard and wing heavy with the only center being a red flag god (and the kid from Arizona...could make a nice pairing with Kristaps).
