either way, Utah is clearly better off without Deron.
LFK admits that the Raptors would've been looking great had they not looked to Bargs and Ed Davis for the future.
If you make Dame available, his contract + this market could get you the best haul for a star player in years. Especially when there's a real possibility that he doesn't get any better than PG Melo and that roster stays fucked.

Dame isn't going anywhere this discussion is lol. If the Blazers got rid of him people would honestly just say fuck it to watching them at all tbh.
Portland should listen to trade offers for Damian only after you accept Michael Kidd-Aminu into your heart.
By giririsss Go To PostYeah, but you're spitting some nonsense.Short term, no. You can't ignore their need for a long-term solution fast though.
Trading Lillard fixes nothing. They're better off trading their supporting cast around him.
2-3 years from now? They're completely dependent on breakout seasons and some miracle in free agency.
By reilo Go To PostYou should trade MKG while there's still time. Maybe next year he'll make the leap or forever he be your (overpaid) Aminu.MKG (and all of our guys short of Batum) are on super-bargain contracts. Its why I can't even trash Cho like I used to. Charlotte's contract situation puts us in an entirely different category than a Portland.
If MKG could get a haul that Damian could, I wouldn't even trip at the idea of him being on the block.
MKG makes $13mil.
Meanwhile: Aminu $7.5mil. Harkless under $9mil on a fresh contract. Ed Davis $6.6mil. Plumlee at $2.75mil.

Damian is a long term solution at PG.
Their problem isn't Lillard.
It's everyone around him. No wing outside of Aminu plays a lick of defense. McCollum never filled the role that Wesley Matthews did, because he never played the defense Matthews did.
If i'm Portland i'm willing to trade EVERYONE but him.
But this time, they need to have an actual planned roster and not just "acquisition of pieces".

Well I mean, I don't think they ever looked at Ed Davis as the future, he was just a utility big at the 13th pick. He was always behind Amir Johnson in the rotation and they traded him in his third season. I don't think there was much attachment or expectation there - aside from the dumb kind fans always have of young players (friend, have you heard the Good News about Pascal Siakam?).
Bargnani, on the other hand, was the biggest tactical error since Hitler sent his troops to invade Russia in winter wearing tank tops & bermuda shorts. Except worse.

By DY_nasty Go To PostI never said the problem was Damian. Then you would've been better off proposing trade scenarios for CJ, because that at least is something that's a plausible scenario and a question that's been looming over the team since they made him a starter last season.
By giririsss Go To PostOh.*shrug* If Marco weren't shooting damn near 50% from 3 for the first 20 games, Lamb would be midway into a MIP campaign.

I'm less interested in unlikely Lillard scenarios than I am wondering if Paul George will quietly become available at some point.
By livefromkyoto Go To PostI'm less interested in unlikely Lillard scenarios than I am wondering if Paul George will quietly become available at some point.Paul George on Portland's roster would solve many of their problems. I wouldn't trade Lillard for him though because that would defeat the damn purpose of building a contender.

By knux-future Go To PostI wish Portland was stupid enough to trade CJ for Noel…he's the exact type of guard we needThat time came and went
embrace fultz though. dude looks a perfect off-guard to pair with simmons
By livefromkyoto Go To PostI'm less interested in unlikely Lillard scenarios than I am wondering if Paul George will quietly become available at some point.
I doubt it. Indiana are happy to sit around be a 5 - 8 seed for a decade and waste his career, than sit around the 10 - 12 seed area.
I don't think his exit will be quiet, if it happens.

Like Wall, his free agency is just too far away at this point to be a realistic point of discussion
really don't understand why players don't fight for player options--teams aren't going to decline to give a max because in three years you could potentially leave, but christ its better than waiting for the whole 5 years for sure

I don't feel the same way. I feel McCollum is a better defensive player, and makes Lillard seem redundant at the PG position.
trade him for some defense.
By p s y Go To Postany good point guards in this years draft?
Fultz plays like Harden jr. tbh
Lonzo Ball plays like J Kidd with a jumpshot
De'Aaron reminds me of Kris Dunn (who is a worse version of John Wall.)
*sigh* Public stats for NBA still aren't quite there. :(
That link I posted earlier with Davis guarding the roller is only for possessions in which the roller directly makes a scoring attempt, which is just a small percentage of the outcomes for pick and rolls. :(

McCollum is not better defensively than Lillard (they're a wash, it doesn't matter). And CJ isn't a better pure point than Lillard. If anything, CJ is a prototypical pure shooting guard in a PG's body.
dude is gonna come back better than ever. Such a hard worker. Still rooting for him to be great. I think the time off will do him well. Dude's been playing banged up all year.
hope he stocks up on HGH

Yeah...there's always the occasional rumour, and he was sounding ticked off earlier, talking about how Indy is always the "little brother of the league." So him moving seemed more likely than Lillard. He's the one player I'd want Masai to hold onto assets for rather than just going for Millsap now like ATL seems to want him to.
By p s y Go To Postany good point guards in this years draft?
By reilo Go To PostIronic statement of the day.Not really.
Portland's had multiple all-stars and MVP vote getters throughout their history. Before George it was like.... Danny Granger, Roy "not a real all-star" Hibbert, then Jermaine O'Neal further back I think. And of course the only thing close is Reggie when you talk about fan perspective. Portland's seen way more talent come and go.

So i think they worry about putting out a product that will also keep voters happy and the general populace. Being a 5 - 8 seed puts bums in seats and that makes the arena / team profitable (particularly for a public official who can also count the flow on affect to local businesses.)
I mean, he would be an amazing piece to quite a few teams.
Put him on utah, move hayward to SG. That team would be legitimately contending.
Give POR a second defender. BOS a reliable shooter. MIN a SF that does more than potential. MEM that wing they've been looking for, for the last 10 years.
By p s y Go To Postany good point guards in this years draft? This is a good year for PGs IMO. Great if off guards like Monk could make the transition too.
By reilo Go To PostI'm like the anti-Gondo on this one. Gondo justified the trade of Harden at every opportunity. I'd stop watching the Blazers for a long while if they traded Damian for someone like Wiggins or Jabari. People don't realize how much he means to the team (and the teammates) especially as he's having his best season as a pro.
I've heard this before when deluded Warriors fans didn't want to trade Monta Ellis
By pilonv1 Go To PostI've heard this before when deluded Warriors fans didn't want to trade Monta EllisWhat was the last team that traded a certified All Star in their prime that did better / well after their leaving?
Utah took 5 or 6 years to get back to being close to what they were. And that's about the best i can think of. Denver still aren't back....
By pilonv1 Go To PostI've heard this before when deluded Warriors fans didn't want to trade Monta EllisMonta sucks though and you had Curry and Klay to take over. The question should be whether CJ should be traded, not Lillard. Monta is also significantly smaller than either of them -- in height and frame.
By giririsss Go To PostWhat was the last team that traded a certified All Star in their prime that did better / well after their leaving?
I'm not advocating it, since I don't think you can improve from trading a star for spare parts either. Just pointing out the reasoning sounded familiar.
By giririsss Go To PostWhat was the last team that traded a certified All Star in their prime that did better / well after their leaving? If you get a good haul and don't do shit with it, don't blame the haul.

We kinda messed up thinking that Kanter could learn to play defense. If he was an average 3rd pick it would have been very helpful.
The 2 years of Al Jeff-Millsap were kind of treadmill years and wouldnt really put them into the rebuilding window.
But we prob lose Hayward and go back to treadmill years tbh

I'm really hoping that Zaza leading the All-Star voting provokes the NBA to finally get rid of this terrible system.
