By reilo Go To PostRookie of the Year, 3x All-Star, 1x All-NBA First Team, then MVP
Check my edit
An MVP that's questionable in a lot of peoples' eyes and an explosive early career ruined by injuries. I think there's arguments to be had both ways really.
By masud Go To PostSo only championship contenders need defensive role players? The Knicks are not in need of a tweak to get the 50th best guard in the league. It does not matter.
I mean Rose had 3.5 years of dominant basketball and then died. Can you put someone in the Hall for 3 awesome years?
By reilo Go To PostThat's my point! You don't need a crazy set of accomplishments to make it.
By reilo Go To PostDennis Rodman made it in 2011. Come on.Rodman was fantastic, always a winner even with SA, 5 titles, incredible stats, incredible games against Kemp and Malone, etc.
By reilo Go To PostDennis Rodman made it in 2011. Come on.The best big man defensive player of his era? The dude that once averaged 19 rebounds a game for an entire season?
If he doesn't get in, what are we doing?
I'm not saying Rodman shouldn't have made it, I'm arguing that the threshold isn't as tall as you guys think it is.
Rodman was the third most important player on the best team of all time, he was a stopper that could actually bother Shaq of all people and had to, he was a fantastic defender against Barkley, Kemp, all of those guys. He was the best hustler of all time, probably the best rebounder, he did so much, plus he was iconic. There's no discussion there.

By reilo Go To PostNoah's All-Defensive and DPOY and All-Star selections don't count?Still way short! It doesn't add up! Rodman had ten times the career of Noah, Noah never won outside of the NCAA. Five titles as a key player!
Rodman has like a thousand more rebounds than Noah has points and rebounds COMBINED. Where do you think Noah is, career wise? A quarter of the way? Come on. Just a terrible example.
and noah's career is pretty much over so he isn't seeing any more all defense or all star selections either.
By reilo Go To PostNoah's All-Defensive and DPOY and All-Star selections don't count?Longevity and raw stats do count, too. His peak was only five season averaging 11, 11 and a couple assists. Then he broke down due to injuries and dude is a shell of himself now.
Again, a more interesting case is a guy like Ben Wallace, who also had a way better career than Noah.
By reilo Go To PostThere are dudes elected in the Hall you've never heard of.Yes, as I said, back when the threshold was lower. 18ppg in a few years in a 16 team league was enough. Now even McGrady is a discussion.
By rodeoclown Go To PostLongevity and raw stats do count, too.As if Noah and Rodman compared beyond the stats. Come on even that is not a discussion. Noah never was the defender Rodman was.
Ralph Sampson played 8 seasons with 4 of them good ones (7000 points for his career) and he made it into the Hall in 2012. The threshold isn't what you think it is. I'm not arguing that Noah should make it, I'm just arguing based on what the Hall has done.
By Gabyskra Go To PostYes, as I said, back when the threshold was lower. 18ppg in a few years in a 16 team league was enough. Now even McGrady is a discussion.I think Mac should pretty easily get in, but I'll have fun defending his candidacy to people. His resume is really only seven years, but he was maybe the best offensive player in the league during that time.
By p s y Go To PostWhat?? I thought he was 25-28. Must have made it into the league rather late.He was drafted by the raps but played in europe for about 4 years.

By reilo Go To PostGuys, you don't realize how low the bar is to make it to the Hall as an NBA player. Dennis Rodman made it.Dennis Rodman was the best rebounder to ever play. Like an order of magnitude better than anyone else. He was also a main player on multiple championship teams. Not sure if he got a gold medal, though.

I'm not arguing that he should, I'm just arguing based on what the Hall has done.Sampson dwarfed everyone in the early 1980s in the NCAA, Ewing, Jordan, Perkins, everyone. He faced the second best team of all time in the NBA Finals. Noah is just a sore selfish asshole tbh who has barked too much compared to his accomplishments.

Ralph was a college god. it's the Basketball HOF. Not the NBA HOF.
TMac isnt a discussion either. he's in easily.
By p s y Go To PostWhat?? I thought he was 25-28. Must have made it into the league rather late.
Played at Texas from 03-06, on the same team as LMA, and Boobie Gibson in 06
And the things you learn from Wikipedia rabbit holes
On March 9, 2015, Gibson announced his retirement from basketball to focus on his rap career
lol
By p s y Go To PostLooking at his wiki, I'm assuming he got in for his NCAA accolades. Then Noah's 2x NCAA championships will give him the leg in that, too.

That's why I asked you if you thought about Florida at first buddy. But sorry, it just does not add up. The math is not there. Look up the probability list I gave you and the reasoning behind the algorithm.

Did he get T'd up for that? Lmao
By Gabyskra Go To PostThat's why I asked you if you thought about Florida at first buddy. But sorry, it just does not add up. The math is not there. Noah might get in, in a week year.
Rose too.
But they're super borderline cases. The sort of cases that will only really get made if they win a chip later in their careers.

By reilo Go To Postfaced Lebron in the Playoffs.Everyone did. He failed. Sampson knocked off Showtime. It doesn't register on the same scale.
Reilo is right that the bar is low to get into the basketball hall of fame. If Noah had an Olympic gold or NBA championship to go along with his two NCAA championships, he would be a contender to go in.
Rose probably makes it in for the MVP and Olympic gold, tbh.

By Kibner Go To PostIf Noah had an Olympic gold or NBA championship
About the Olympic gold. Are you guys aware of how big a loser Noah is? How he's the kind of asshole who did not fit in a collective with players as unselfish as TP, Diaw, Batum, etc?
David Lee has a higher probability according to that list, lol. Does Tyson Chandler make it? Cause his probability is lower than Noah's.
By reilo Go To PostDoes Tyson Chandler make it?No way.

Rose is going in the hall of woulda coulda shoulda. just like Penny.
(edit: damn i forgot he does have a gold medal tho. i still dont think he gets in tho)
At least Grant Hill has his NCAA stuff to fall back on whenever he's eligible. Rose choked that away.

Also, what you're missing in your reasoning, beyond the raw stats, beyond the eye test with Rodman, is even the story element to basketball.
Sampson's history is a legend.
Even Mugsy Bogues is a legend, and I'm rooting for him to get in, but I know it's going to be hard.
The story. That's also what matters. And there's no good story for Noah. Not enough success as a part of a team.

David Lee is a HOFer to all dads around the world
By Kibner Go To PostBeing an asshole has not stopped anyone from going into that particular HoF.And Noah has a Citizenship Award for his community work. And Dennis Rodman might be the biggest fucking asshole of all time.
By Kibner Go To PostBeing an asshole has not stopped anyone from going into that particular HoF.Kibner, you're making the point that if he had FIBA success, he'd get in. When it comes to Noah, that's like saying if Bruce Bowen scored 20 points a game. He's the biggest loser/absentee in the history of French basketball.
By reilo Go To PostAnd Noah has a Citizenship Award for his community work. And Dennis Rodman might be the biggest fucking asshole of all time.Doesn't matter. Kobe's a rapist. Not what I referred to either. I was talking basketball wise. He's an asshole who did not put in the effort. A diva who failed hard, shitty results.

And I'm not saying that he would get in but that he would have a puncher's chance of getting in.
Had no idea that people felt that way about Noah. Always though he was generally, a well liked player.
