By n8 dogg Go To PostSpielberg is so underrated, amazingly. If a first time director came out with mid tier Spielberg films like Bridge of Spies, they'd be heralded as geniuses.Absolutely. The man is a god.
Forgot about the Coens, I'd add them too or replace with Fincher or PTA, idk.
By Perfect Blue Go To PostAmerican directors, sure. Replace Zemeckis with Spielberg and add Scorsese.
see my spielberg post. Shutter Island is a middling Scorsese film. Its a masterwork of tone and control and if the lad who made Step Up II The Streets made it we'd all be fucking stunned like holy shit where did something that good come from?
We take the lads for granted.
Spieldberg is so boring now. Haven't really enjoyed anything by him since Munich. Lincoln was boring.
Looking forward to the new PTA. A period piece with DDL in London. Don't care about fashion, but should be interesting.

By Wedward Go To PostI love Iwobi.
I can't quite develop a love for him, we've been here before with so many young players. Next thing you know we are waiting 10 or 5 seasons for them to fulfil their potential.
By Laboured Go To PostIt is not.
I liked Peter Saarsgard in it though. He's so slimy. Good in An Education.

I'd say we are past the point of just talking about potential with Iwobi. He is clearly a good player.

I really liked Lincoln. Really well acted, theatrical but I love shit like that. Maybe because I didn't know anything about what happened I enjoyed it more.
By Bungie Go To PostTo quote Arnie from twitter, "Girl on a train is a book for girls on trains"Having finished the film less than an hour ago, I can confirm this is accurate.
There are some genuine laughs in there that would have annoyed the shit out of me if I were at the theater and into the movie. I would have been that guy that I hate. But I doubt I would have been alone.
Apparently the book takes place in London, not New York like the film. That wouldn't changed things.
Best dirty foreigner directors these days: Asghar Farhadi, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Jia Zhangke, Apichatpong Weerasekthul, Tsai-Ming Liang, Michael Haneke, David Cronenberg, and a bunch of others. Hou hsiao-hsien is one of the best directors ever but the cunt releases one film like every 10 years now.

Not a big Haneke fan. Farhadi is class. Park Chan Wook is amazing. Paolo Sorrentino is brill.
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is fucking shit.
Cunt has two Oscars.
Two.
By il Diavolo Go To PostSpeaking of scorsese, recently watched silence. Probably the best thing he's done in 20 years.
I LOVE The Departed, so much fun. But other than that, best thing he's done since Goodfellas.
By Francis Go To PostHugo was great.
Who is with me? No…
Good fun. Ben Kingsley is great. Again, the type of film that is a decent Scorsese film but a really good family film that would get amazing notice if it was almost anyone else.
I hated Wolf of Wall Street. Kept waiting for it to be good but it never clicked with me. I think I just didn't like any of the characters. I don't know. It's a bit long.
Shutter Island was 🗑️
Overrated film: Gone Baby Gone
But I still really enjoy the occasional Woody Allen movie so what do I know.

I loved Hugo. It's a testament to Scorsese's love of film and his historian-like image.
By il Diavolo Go To PostCuaron is legit. Children of men shits on everything inarritu has pushed out.I don't like Inarritu but to be fair to him, Children of Men shits on A LOT of films lol masterclass.
Imagine having your bosses fly you on a private jet so you have a pitch-side seat in watching a dominant Chelsea victory. Sadio living the good life.

Cuaron has directed two of the worst films I've ever seen in HP3 and Children of Men. Didn't bother watching Gravity for that reason and I don't think I will bother with any more of his films after those disasters.
My favorite director? Wes Anderson. I've enjoyed each and every of his movies.
Not the best though, when you see Spielberg taking on different genres and varying tones, making it work almost every time and entertaining most in the general public along with it. The man is the greatest in his craft.

Not the biggest fan of Hunger but Shame and 12Y are both extraordinary
Grand Budapest is amazing
Haven't seen any Wheatley but Berberian was amaze and really wanna see Duke of Burgundy
I haven't seen any Young Pope yet (making my way through People v OJ Simpson) but some Uproxx writer does a weekly round up of the nuttiest moments and it sounds fun.

By Baconsaurus Go To PostThat reminds me: still need to see The Look of Silence.
Act of Killing was so weird. I think I could have done without the more filmsy surreal bits and just had the documentary parts. Shit with them dancing and all that was odd as fuck.

It's not bad right?
Was a bit miffed about the Kangaroo tho.

Really? I mean he's serviceable but I don't think he's striking fear in to the hearts of anyone. Nor do I think he's a good player yet. He's got the ability sure no doubt but so did/does Ox, Walcott, zaha, townsend, sterling and the rest of the gang.
Maybe good player is the wrong word because clearly some of those above players could be described as good.
No nolan? Funnily enough have prestige on at the moment. Such a brilliant film that holds up really well as do most Nolan films imo. Spielberg, Nolan, Scorsese.
RIP Bowie
I can sort of understand the feeling that Children of Men is overrated (even though I disagree), but calling it one of the worst films you've ever seen?
Please.

I wish Coppola made more great films
4 legit masterpieces in the span of about 8 or so years and then nothing but shit, lol. The man is a genius :(

By Francis Go To PostI can sort of understand the feeling that Children of Men is overrated (even though I disagree), but calling it one of the worst films you've ever seen?I'm afraid I couldn't give a detailed description of my hatred of the film since I only watched it once about 10 years ago and have absolutely no desire to ever do that again.
Please.
Having said that, I do recall it being unbelievably boring, with horrific performances and a general air of stupidity.
It's February m8s
Are we waiting until these games are finished to create new thread? I think that's a good idea
Wooden has had his thread making rights stolen from FF#2 last time, so maybe wooden should make next one

Nolan is really good and far better than most blockbuster filmmakers, but he has an awful of flaws. I mean, I think Interstellar is great, so I do really like him. But he isn't a master filmmaker like a lot of the others mentioned.
By Kidjr Go To PostWhat the fuck does Lucas have to do get an EPL start.
Iwobi is fine but I no where near at a level to be performing week in week out
wengys system needs a wide playmaker + inside forward combo to work.
