But sponsors are clearly a bit twitchy about us getting them maximum exposure and so holding some money back if we don't. Adidas means we can only be out 1 year, others might be 1 year, or 2, or none. I don't know.The sponsorship isn't attached to being in the CL. It's attached to having a huge fan base and regularly reaching them.
Just getting 4th again and again means we're nothing but Arsenal, so you're right, winning things is important. But if we win the League Cup and FA cup we'll still just be playing Europa league and fucking the team over having to play Thursday/saturday. The team needs to be either in the CL or not in any European competition. The middle ground is a shithouse.
It's why PL clubs who never do anything earn more money than some huge clubs in Europe.
This is a tedious discussion now but we have enough income for the next few years to be able to buy the players we need without the CL bonus. CL income represents less than 10% of our current turnover.
Until that changes I want us to win things, not just be one of the participants in Europe.
