By Vivalapizza Go To PostThe 'solution' - im not sure. But he has literally been all talk and no action. There were some options available. He could have given the rebels more support if he wanted to overthrow the government, but he didn't follow through on that. He could have enforced a no fly zone to protect civilians, but he shied away from that also. He drew the 'red line' and when Assad crossed it he did nothing, and then he allowed Putin to take the lead on 'negotiating', a position that Russia has not and will not give up. Russia are now the leading influencer there.
I don't know which if any of these options would have worked or led to a solution but it was clear that inactivity would not do any good. Not for the Syrian people or for the US geopolitical position. Now the US are letting IS troops through positions they hold to go and fight Assad. Complete fuck up.
Correct me if I'm wrong but it's not like the rebels were one united politcal movement, there were various factions/agenda etc that were united in the sense that hundreds of thousands of unarmed people were about to be slaughtered. Which rebel cause Obama have supported etc and for me that could have played out exactly like the last time US decided to arm some rebels. There was no way in hell he was going to put soliders on the ground after Iraq and Afganistan. I agree with you on the Asad and Russia points but I feel it's a little simplistic way of looking at a very complicated situation that personally I dont think anyone wanted to be a part of but just like on a basic "human life is valuable dont give a fuck where you are" principal.
By Facism Go To PostRecently finished PoE after the DLC went on sale, after aborting my first playthrough at release.I started on Tyranny last week, but I think I might hold on until after the March / April onslaught of games. I know I'll probably love it, but this doesn't feel like the right time to play it, somehow. I always end up sinking 2x the time the average person does on games like this and PoE too.
Will spend raheem pound sterlings on a sequel, especially after Tyranny.

By Vivalapizza Go To PostCome on Nate, this is poor. What is the alternative to drone strikes, really? How about not dropping any bombs in the first place? Surely that just means there's more immigrants, really? Firstly, no, there aren't, and secondly at least out some kind of framework in place. Don't just fuck them off. He's playing catch up in Syria? I'm not even taking the piss this is the kind of shit people who voted for Trump say. This is not a logical examination – it’s exactly what I said, excuse after excuse for this mans failings.
If I said to you that you can’t blame David Cameron for the wealth disparity in the UK. Yeah, the richer are richer and if you walked around London you see homeless people on every street corner and food banks overflowing…that sucks, but it’s changing times…and hey, he did bail the banks out. And unemployment goes down every month.
What would you say? Okay shitty situation good effort.
Again – not saying he is an awful President, that he didn’t do good things…or that he didn’t achieve a lot. But people are reluctant to say in outright terms where he failed. They get very defensive. And that is a big problem for the left and IMO is a directly responsible for what is happening across the western world right now. The people he is supposed to represent and protect…he’s forgotten about a lot of them. And we should call him out for that and hold him to account. It hasn't been good enough.
So what is the alternative to not dropping bombs then? Send in troops to do the work instead? Doesn't that cause its own issues? Don't fight the battle at all?
I'm not saying he shouldn't be held to account, but the situation's clearly a lot more nuanced than drop bomb/don't drop bomb, and Obama's a hero or villain whichever he does.
Surely part of Obama's reticence to hit Assad over that red line speaks to a leader who - yes is weak and indecisive in parts - would rather not have the conflict. If Obama was in charge for 9/11, would the response have been as rash and ill-thought out as Bush's was? Of course he was laboured with that. I don't think that's a Trump supporter-esque thing to say. It's the same reason why our own military involvement since Blair can't be pinned on Brown or Cameron - because they were trying to mitigate what came before.
As for your Cameron point, I initially cited the argument to point out Obama's humanity, sensibility and humility, as well as class and clear deference to democracy. Cameron didn't have many of these things; the most responsible thing he ever did was step down after the colossal fuck up of last summer.
I think Trump is a tyrannical monster, like the rest of us. But I'd like to think that if unemployment keeps falling he gets the praise for that, as Cameron and Obama should (and Obama - and Trump - have far harder jobs than Cameron did, in my opinion, with self-governing states and such a partisan make up of government).
Obama did an awful lot wrong. But in terms of image and respectfulness for the position - which again, was the reason I posted - USA won't get much better.

By Hitch Go To PostI think I want Sherlock to be over now. That last episode might be my least favourite of all 13. Certainly the one in which they've most lost sight of what I liked about it, and focussed on what I don't like. Guy who plays Moriarty is divisive, which I don't understand. He's dogshit, plain and simple. Not helped in the slightest by the script and direction in the latest episode tbf.

$10 for a Trump scarf at inauguration, what a bargain. Clearly they don't have the financial prowess that Trump does otherwise they'd be charging $30

Chelsea have received an offer for Asmir Begović. Reportedly in the region of £10 million from Bournemouth.
Initial bid has been rejected but they are going to keep pushing.

Also I think Obama is a great president. He was constantly being thwarted by a republican congress and still managed to force a lot of his vision through, although I'm sure like everyone, he wishes he could do more.
Maybe he was trying to create a foothold for his promises that can be enacted in the future, because these things sometimes take a decade to pass. Then everyone fucked up and Americans got Trump.

The US made ones are $59.
I head home to the US once a year and every time I've been back since I moved to Japan, there's been a portrait photo of Obama at the airport welcoming everyone to the USA. Came back in December and it was the last time I'd see Obama's face there. Next time it'll be Donald Trump's dog's bleached assholes staring back at me.
