Because money isn't an issue when we're buying; we pay what the club asks. We're in the market for top players and to pay that, we need to pay up.

So for players we don't want anymore, we're aware they will be wanted somewhere so you might as well set a price and stick to it.

We bought Depay for 30m and he embarrassingly flopped. If we get 20m back for him, its less embarrassing for the club and makes our investment - not just in money - not as much of a write off.

It isn't embarrassing or a waste of time to spend billions on Pogba because he's worth it. It is important for a club like United not to be fleeced from every hole. We set the price for our players, and that's what we sell for.

If it matters how much you pay for a player - Ozil is worth 40, Giroud has paid back the 12 he cost, Theo doesn't deserve 150k a week or whatever - , it matters how much they go for.

Of course it doesn't cost you anything, so just enjoy it, I guess. Maybe Football Manager has indoctrinated me to give a fuck about this. But if what you earn goes back into the transfer budget, if you buy a Barnsley player for 5m and all of that goes into developing their training ground, if you sell Sanchez for 70m and buy three players, if you sell Oxlade for 20m and you're amazed you turned a profit... it all matters.
