Before I left Mobile a few days ago, my parents told me that my cousin goes on those graveyard tours in New Orleans to go see the voodoo priest(s). I went over to drop off some gifts for her grandchildren (her daughter MIGHT be 21 with 2 kids), and wouldn't go beyond the frame of the front door. I didn't know she rolled like that.

I knew that people practiced that stuff, but it's more prevalent than I would like to know.

Don't get me wrong she's crazy but as far as the chicken sacrifices maybe she just practices yoruba/santeria? Allot of people practice that religion in Harlem (me and her are both from there). I have some family members that do and Ive been to a few chicken sacrifices in my day.

Naw you don't eat the chicken. You're not sacrificing the chickens life force to the gods. The chicken is food that your giving to the gods instead of getting to eat it yourself, that's the sacrifice. I'm an atheist or agnostic or whatever but yoroba is pretty interesting to me, far more than western religeon.

Well it's more Santeria mixed so as a catholic you run into people who have merged the worship of those Gods into more or less a worship of saints..... obviously they don't see it as worship so much as prayers for the hope the saints speak on their behalf but it's more or less the same.

But like I said the main family that worships it that I know is blessed. It's secondary from their Catholicism and is more traditional but they do it. Hell the only reason I am even aware they do it is because I have been a friend of the family for over 20 years.
