This will be your go to thread for discussing everything indie. This can be rock, electronic, folk, singer song writer etc etc
I'll make this a shiny OP at a later time.

I'm still surprised by how much I'm liking new Purity Ring's album.
Think is even better that their debut album.

I think the last "indie" album I really got into was Sun Kil Moon's Benji.
I'm starting things off on a very positive and upbeat tone, huh?

Soo, making the OP look a bit better than now is going to have to wait a while. This netbook I'm using currently is too damn slow to do anything other than browsing. I do want to start adding Last.fm accounts to the OP because I think it would be nice to have some social aspect to this thread too. And it's the easiest way to find out what kind of music folks are in to. So if you have an account there feel free to share so we can get to know each other a little.
Something else then, I love Sleater Kinney's new video. They feature in Bob's Burgers!

Toro Y Moi' new album is superb. He's gone down a more psychedelic route which I think he's executed well.
Last.fm is a great way to discover music and keep track of what you listen to. I've been using it actively since 2009 now and it really shows how I've changed over the years and what I like. Hopefully it will deliver you some new music too Kikarian!
Also, this thread is of course for discussing gigs/festivals you go to as well.

I like how it tells you concerts that are happening that are near you based of what's in your library.
Just listened to the Viet Cong album. At first I didn't think I'd like it but the last three songs I really liked.
"Silhouettes" reminded me of a Joy Division song. I think the first half of the album will grow on me.
I'll give it a 7/10

Just came back from Man Without Country Gig. I, now, know that why bands and artist are wary of coming to BIrmingham to do a gig. The crowd sucked. The first supporter dou were rubbish, but it felt that they had way more people watching them, since they were from Midlands and apparently invited their friends to create a racket every single time they finished a track, which felt hookey.
The second were great, they were called Chartreuse and were very low-key surf band with great reverb effects and lovely vocals. Their guitarist was great as well, he was very technical and their songs just progressed from one form/tempo to another in a very organic way, and rarely have I seen such a technical nounce from such a young band (they only have 2 tracks on soundcloud). There were barely anyone there, and the ones who were there never acknowledge their music in any form whatsoever. I went up to them and chatted with them for a bit, with me saying how much I loved their music their reply was ''at least there is 1 who liked our music'' which was really sad because they were fantastic.
and then the main band came on, they were quite good. They are Electronica/Shoegaze band that emphasizes on texture and ambient reverb, the percussion are there, but felt very lo-fi. Kind of reminded me of early M83 music. The malodies were droney and stretched out in order to to atmosphere the guitar play as well as the muffled vocals. I have to say, I really didn't like the vocals at all, and some of the tracks were too ambient for me, but they played their best. The audience weren't even there for the start of the performance and they started coming in 4 tracks in.
Totally underwhelming atmosphere to a great music which kind of sucked the fun out of the whole thing.

finally gave PANDA BEAR MEETS THE GRIM REAPER a listen, really love it. it's still early, but it's easily the most I've enjoyed anything Panda Bear/AC since Merriweather Post Pavillon I think.

It's pretty much my favourite record this year so far. I've been addicted to these guys since their Cassette EP dropped and their debut album kicks it up a notch even. For me there's not a bad song on there. Together with Ought the most exciting thing Canada had to offer over the past year.
So far this year I've been into…
Viet Cong - Viet Cong
Sleater-Kinney - No Cities to Love
Father John Misty - I Love You, Honeybear
Trust Fund - No Ones Coming For Us
Twerps - Range Anxiety
Belle and Sebastian - Girls in Peacetime Want to Dance
Menace Beach - Ratworld
Joey Bada$$ - B4.DA.$$
Need to check out/listen more to…
Panda Bear - Panda Bear Meets the Grim Reaper
Purity Ring - Another Eternity
Björk - Vulnicura
Mourn - Mourn
Waxahatchee - Ivy Tripp
Pond - Man It Feels Like Space Again
Mount Eerie - Sauna
Looking forward to…
Joanna Gruesome - Peanut Butter
Death Cab For Cutie - Kintsugi
Blur - The Magic Whip
Run the Jewels - RTJ3
Radiohead - TBA
Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell
Courrtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit and Think, Sometimes I Just Sit
Metz - II
Modest Mouse - Strangers To Ourselves
DIIV - '#LP2'
2015 got potential!
FootyGAF has probably already listened to it, but you should all listen and buy the music of my brothers indie hipster band. I mean he has to move out at some point and get money for that, and he sure isn't going to get it from working cause hes a lazy fuck

Nice Thread!
Recently, I've been reverberating to the sounds of:
Ex Hex
The Bots
Sleater Kinney
Ultimate Painting
Sharon Van Etten
Martha
Thurston Moore
Honeyblood
Looks like there's a lot coming out this year, could have the makings of a great year, after all they don't all start with a new Sleater Kinney album. But after hearing this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLN4mC26KDk) on the radio, my most looked forward to is the new Public Service Broadcasting record. Amazing piece of music imo.
I've got a few gigs booked for Warpaint, Manic Street Preachers, Thurston Moore, Ash, Sleater Kinney, Sharon Van Etten, the Primavera Festival in Porto, Glastonbury and OnBlackheath in London. I'm fairly certain I may have forgotten some...

Anyone know when Electric Guest is coming out with another album? Their first was sublime.

I still cry every once in a while knowing that I'll never get another Bon Iver nor Crystal Castles album.
Why wouldn't we get another Bon Iver album? Justin is doing some side stuff with other bands but Bon Iver didn't split up.
Oh? Thought he was done with Bon Iver. Either way, we might see another Beck album before we see Bon Iver.
Apparently the new Gang of Four album is rather shite.
Really saddened about that, I was quite excited to see another Wire-like revival.

It's like half the original band. Their recent gigs have been abismal. I don't think anyone expected something good out of Gang of Four anymore at this point :P
Swans, likewise, was missing most of the band members pre-2000s and still came up with a godly album last year. But yeah, Gang of Four is nothing without the King!
I believe the new singers name is also King :P
And Swans is Michael Gira, so that got that going for them. Though I don't like Swans myself.

I thought Gill was the vocalist, since he was the one who keeps harping on GoF being a band to this day. He was amazing guitarist, but he is destroying the legacy of the band they way he is exploiting the name for his own ego. Also, really disappointing to see Alison Mosshart take part in this zombified project when she could work on another The Kills album.
ah, well. Entertainment remains to be one of the best album ever!

Gill always did some backing vocals. I was confused by the way, the new singers name is also John (different spelling but still a Jo(h)n). Gill is the only original member of the band though. What is dead may never die.

Yeah, and that LP was very revered amongst many critiques and circle. People loved them and their gigs are said to be one of the most insane ones (They are known to our with White Fat Family which should tell you everything)
Must have something to so with the drummer and the bassist quitting last year. There must be internal conflict going on at that band. Because this makes no sense.
The first few reviews for Karin Park's new album have dropped and its said that its much more poppy than the previous one, albeit darker and received middling score.
Good, because the last one was shit (but somehow loved amongst the critics) and its good to see her back to darker version of pop music where she can just focus on her vocals to deliver the hooks. There were shitty dubstep melodies buried in teh last album which was was just awful.

Burn Your Fire For No Witness by Angel Olsen is reeeally good. The 'louder' more garage band type songs don't really click with me. But the more folk sounding records are amazing. She has a great voice, really haunting when she goes for the higher notes.

Can't stand the pop-fiolk aspect of her (or any of other musicians similiar to her such Laura Marling and Lady Lamd the Beekeeper) but absolutely love the loud Garage aspect of thier music.
