The problem with the Mavs post-2011 championship has been that Cuban thinks making it to the 8th seed gave them 50/50 odds to winning another championship.

It is like throwing gas on their dumpster fire..
They are turning into an unfixable mess and empowering DMC in the wrong ways..
So... I really am not pushing anything but what I see.
Now.. Saying IT and DMC hated each other was pushing an agenda but hey you are only human..

I never liked Cuban.. But I respect that he doesn't want to tank..
What's respectful about being stubborn and missing the forest for the trees? I haven't seen my team make the WCF in over 16 seasons. It's not enjoyable. Every once in a while I'll witness a surprise run like 2014 or 2016 that ends in the second round.
Although, I can sympathize with fans of the Wolves or Sixers just hoping for a playoff run.

WIth Cuban, it's a matter of honestly admitting that the strategy he's used the past few years for the Mavs isn't working. He can't attract Free Agents and he's given up on using the draft, so he's had a massive talent leak.
There was no lineage plan after Dirk. No idea of getting another young talent and building them up to hand the keys towards after Dirk retires. Unless you think Harrison Barnes is that guy, there was no next-day plan.

Also few teams make it without a once in a gen talent.. Most times you know who that is in any given draft.. There isn't one in the upcoming draft
Try to win games... make Barnes look like an NBA star for a second and take your lottery pick
there is nothing worse than treadmilling wasting everyone's time as an 8 seed with zero chance
if there isn't a chance for significant improvement from that foundation in the next 1-2 years, blow it the fuck up. mavs are incredibly lucky that carlisle is willing to stick around. most teams would never have that luxury

Every once in a while I'll witness a surprise run like 2014 or 2016 that ends in the second round.During the years Garnett was carrying the Wolves to 50 wins and a first round loss every year, I didn't like it. Seasons always had this air of inevitability. No matter how many how enjoyable the regular season was, they'd only go four or five games and get washed in the playoffs. San Antonio, Dallas, the Lakers, we lost to the Sonics one year and they don't even exist anymore. Everyone was always that much better. It felt really frustrating, but I'd take that over where the entire franchise has been at since 2004.
Although, I can sympathize with fans of the Wolves or Sixers just hoping for a playoff run.
My anti-tanking stance is something I've talked about a lot, but I genuinely never want to see the Wolves lose 60 games again. That's why this season is so incredibly hard to take and stay interested in. This was supposed to be the year that the team took that next leap after the baby steps last year. They have the worst record in the league and coach that stubbornly refuses to change how he operates because it's his way or no way at all.
We're reaching this critical juncture where it just seems like the team is diseased. Draft LaVine, trade for Wiggins, draft Towns, it kind of all fell into place, but instead of actualizing, they're on pace to be worse than last year. I don't get it. I mean, I get it, and the problems start at the top, but it makes me want to give up.
By DY_nasty Go To Postshit aint even that bad in minnesota. kat, wiggins, lavine, dunn and another draft pick comingKris Dunn, who is so good, he can't get more run during Ricky Rubio's absolute worst season as a pro.
More to the point, no. They threw away years and years, they finally got Towns, made some nice progress last year and now they're poised to take a big step back this year. It really, really sucks to watch Thibs constantly misuse guys and have him shrug it off and say that guys need to buy in and play hard. He wants this roster to be something it's not: a slow, plodding defensive-focused unit. But rather than change and adapt to waht he has, he keeps trying to jam his system on them.
The idea that a good draft awaits me makes me so god damn depressed after hearing the same thing every year for the last, I don't know, decade. No, this was supposed to be the leap forward. They already got Wiggins, Towns, LaVine and I'm supposed to think that all they need is one more draft pick? Fuck that.
i know a mindfucked pg when i see one. dunn is no mudiay

Kris Dunn is a bad basketball player that shouldn't be getting run over Tyus Jones. He cannot run an offense well and at best can make only rudimentary plays. He is a bad decision maker, much like he was at Providence, sporting nearly identical turnover and assist rates (21%). He cannot shoot and cannot even make free throws at a healthy clip.
He is, by the way, going to be 23 years old in March and played four years of college.
Dunn has done nothing to make me think he deserves more minutes, much less that he's the team's future at the position.

My stance on making the playoffs is this: it should be the first step to rebuilding a team into a contender. You may even swallow two seasons of first round exists early on, but after a certain point your team needs to be progressing to the conference finals with that core on the regular. You give yourself a shot by making it to the conference finals, not the first round, and if your core is not good enough to make that happen after trying and trying and trying, then something needs to change.
It's why nobody has taken the Clippers seriously despite their talented core. They've yet to make it out of the second round and it's a difficult test to get to in order to make it happen.

Rick is a rider.. after being canned for unfairly twice he isn't going to jump ship..
The Mavs are going to end up with a decent pick.. and need backcourt help in a backcourt heavy draft. No way they make it to the 8th seed. But even with a great coach unless you fully blow it up like the Celtics did under Doc.. You never want to teach whatever young players you have how to lose.. Most young players will lose games for you by being young anyways..

Of course, I also thought the opposite of my Pels. :v
Young teams don't win. There is this period in which they need to learn that being athletic and big isn't enough to win games or play defense...or run sets...or have a soul. I have been watching this for 4 years now...its only worse when that youth is just not good but the point is remains. This seems to be the Wolves main issue; Wiggins, Lavine and Towns are awesome talents but they suck ass on defense because all of their life they could just gamble and be large and fast to get the job done.
Shit takes time...perhaps more than one would like. This is where the vets come in and the Wolves "others" are doo doo (like for example I think Towns could use another big next to him to do the dirty work...Dieng isn't that IMO). I hated the whole "yall need vets doe" shit because most of the vets recommended were ass but I do think there is some value to it. I fucking hate Gerald Henderson, I hate his stupid long twos, his awful tunnell vision, BUT dude has been a solid leader...as had dudes like Ersan...that is why we have 6 whole wins...which is an improvement. Imagine if we had a better guy. The idea that you can just fill a team with all top tier prospects and win is a bit misguided. The Lakers early run was off of the backs of Lou and Nick fucking Young. Durant credits dudes like Kevin Ollie for teaching him how to win...so I guess there is some value there. Just sucks to have to "waste" money on some guy who isn't apart of the future....

No, I didn't specify that. But if you got a core together for 5 years (CP3 trade anniversary was a week ago and it's been five years), how much longer do you keep it going? What do you do if you're the Clippers and don't make it to the WCF again this year and with Chris Paul's 32nd birthday looming large come May?
Also, most people don't sleep on the Clippers. The Clippers are to the point where they can say if we were healthy in the playoffs who knows what would happen
Scenario: Clippers lose in the second round in May 2017. Blake and Paul are UFAs come July 1st 2017. You're the GM. What do you do?
Ah, yes, my favorite Thibs thing: he calls a timeout and then makes zero changes. He called for a Wiggins clear out there, too, but Andrew actually passed out of a 20 footer for once.
