A high-ranking executive from a Western Conference team that contemplated a trade for Cousins was adamant in no longer having interest.
“Everything about that guy is wrong,” the exec told The Vertical. “I don’t want that attitude around my young players.”
But an assistant coach from the same team remained interested in trading for Cousins.
“That situation out there would screw anybody up,” the coach said. “I’m telling you, get him out of that mess and you will see a different person — and a great [expletive] player.”

My view on that NY thing is that it's dumb to be out that late at a club, especially the same place where Thabo had his run in with the police. It's a bad situation. Anywhere the TMZ crew hangs out is not good for anyone somewhat famous.
Other than that, let everyone figure out what happened. It doesn't seem Cousins is going to face anything for that night. For all the crap Boogie gets, he's had no off-court issues.

I think Cousins did play in that game. Was that the one where Mayo punched him in the nuts? Either way, still a court issue. By off-court, I clearly mean stuff like this nightclub situation. Non-basketball things.

Zach Lowe breaks down why there probably shouldn't be a Cousins trade:
http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/18239965/zach-lowe-10-things-like
Basically, they probably go from being a bad team with a star to being a nowhere team with nothing. Maybe they believe they can get a top 5 pick from the Mavs or somebody and draft another star, but that would be dumb. Because they're bad at drafting and they probably can't.
This is why trading DeMarcus Cousins would be so painful. The cupboard is bare. The Kings have whiffed on so many lottery picks. The jury is out on Willie Cauley-Stein (and his hands) and Georgios Papagiannis, but the (very) early returns don't suggest either is a foundational player. Sacramento owes various future picks to Chicago, Philadelphia, and Orlando.
Trading Cousins for a bounty of young guys and first-rounders would not give Sacramento extra bites at the lottery apple, or a half-dozen intriguing prospects. It would give them a ground-zero level amount of those things – a normal amount. To trade a star and end up with that? Egads.

Basically, if you've been bad at drafting and your only way to get one after trading Cousins is to draft one then RIP.
You also just established you can't build around a star when you get one, so double RIP.
It would be so Kings to trade DMC during a 2013-esque draft year and bypassing getting as many picks as possible in a great draft just because they've got a history of being shit.
If I see a draft like this where I have the best chance at getting a star, then that's the year I target to gather assets. In a year like this one you might stumble, simply by chance into a star. Lowe's attitude is the sort of thing that could nuke the kings.

The Wolves are like five more abysmal losses away from Thibs being forced to choose between Wiggins and LaVine since they're revealing themselves to basically be the same player.
I don't know how I'm going to cope.

Except that hte Kings are likely to whiff on their picks.
We talked about this about a month ago.
They're in a no win situation. Can't draft cause they suck at it, roster not good enough to win, no assets to trade for upgrades.

Dude, I watched every minute of that game last night. The Raptor announcers are homer AF and even they were losing their shit over your players (granted they'e contractually bound to for Wiggins because he's Canadian). Usually they just mumble something in a monotone voice about how Kevin Durant is pretty good and you have to get up and guard him or whatever. Those three stars in the making in Minny are like 2 seasons and 3 role players away from running shit in the West. Moving one of LaVine or Wiggins now would be the Harden trade all over again.

That core is so super young i'm not sure it's worth worrying about wins as the ONLY result.

The losses are killing him and I think he's really frustrated that he hasn't been able to connect and get Wiggins or LaVine to play better defense. Every loss is the same post-game presser about how guys have to buy in and he'll break at some point.
Thibodeau called for his team’s improvement, again.
“The defense, we have to correct it,” he said. “We have to get it better. Until we get that straightened out, it’s going to be a problem.”
“There are good fouls and bad fouls,” Thibodeau said, speaking about his team’s fourth quarter in general, “and if you’re fouling jump shooters, it’s never a good thing. If you’re doing it repeatedly, you’re not learning.”Why aren't the players getting better, wonders man in charge of coaching them and entire organization.

so let Cousins walk for nothing during a worse draft year is the solution?
I'd bet that for the right money, The Smitch would give up his position as Canada's Charles Barkley on Raptor halftime shows and come back to Minny.
You know you need him.
No, I think they're fucked no matter what because they're not good at running an NBA franchise. Unless they played the Raptors 82 times a year. They've got that down. But no matter how good this draft is you can bank on them threading the needle and finding that 8th guy in the rotation journeyman in the top 5.

The only caveat that I'd add is that I don't believe the Maloofs ever tried to build around Cousins. They just spent pick after pick on PR moves with no vision for the future.

I think he's tried to build a roster that fits Cousins. He may not have succeeded in making one with enough talent, but at least the pieces make more sense than in the past. Some shooters, some defenders and a lot of vets with a coach in Joerger that fits Cousins style.
The draft is all projects at this point. May have been a bad draft or may not have been. It seems there was never any intent to give rookies playing time.
FWIW, Malachi Richardson has been good in d-league and their picks have begun to progress. If there's some trade that sends one of their guards away, I imagine Richardson gets called up.
They've done nothing for Cousins.
It was bad enough that they didn't put talent around him before, but since then they've put the NBA's biggest headcases next to him. You really want your franchise big hanging out with Lawson and Matt Barnes?

Cousins liked Barnes for some reason. Players do for whatever reason. Boogie also liked Reggie Evans. He wants someone to do dirty work and have his back when the other team takes cheapshots at him and work the refs.
Judge that as you will. He has barked less at the officials this year. But now he's got to deal with this Night Club mess.

trying to help DMC by drafting 2 centers and signing another one? Good thing the didn't do something stupid like drafting Devin Booker

So just let DMC sign the free agents?
I didn't like the Papa G drafting, but was for WCS because his defensive mobility pairs well with Cousins. They haven't found a reliable stretch four to mix in. Tolliver just hasn't hit anything during the regular season.
I am guessing you all want some sort of performative response out of me, but I don't operate that way. I see the idea behind some of the draft picks and signings, but don't like all of the picks or signings. I wasn't for signing Barnes, but I understand getting an enforcer type at the same time. I've already said many times that the team, through various owners and GMs, has not had a clue on drafting guards. Not even in Petrie's best years did he have a good feel for it. Can't explain why they pass on good PGs almost every draft.
