CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina's years-long NCAA investigation has finally come to an end. The NCAA announced it could not conclude academic violations occurred in its ruling on the University of North Carolina’s athletic department on Friday. The NCAA enforcement staff alleged five Level I violations in December related to the lengthy investigation into academic irregularities in the formerly named African and Afro-American Studies department.

“While student-athletes likely benefited from the so-called ‘paper courses’ offered by North Carolina, the information available in the record did not establish that the courses were solely created, offered and maintained as an orchestrated effort to benefit student-athletes,” said Greg Sankey, the panel’s chief hearing officer and commissioner of the Southeastern Conference. “The panel is troubled by the university’s shifting positions about whether academic fraud occurred on its campus and the credibility of the Cadwalader report, which it distanced itself from after initially supporting the findings. However, NCAA policy is clear. The NCAA defers to its member schools to determine whether academic fraud occurred and, ultimately, the panel is bound to making decisions within the rules set by the membership.”
The case ultimately came down to bylaw interpretation. The NCAA enforcement staff's written reply to UNC's response to its third notice of allegations detailed how its case was not about the legitimacy of the irregular AFAM courses, but rather the special arrangements that were afford to student-athletes with regard to those courses. UNC argued that Bylaw 16.3, which mandates academic and other support services be made available to student-athletes, challenged the NCAA's allegations pertaining to the special arrangements.

The NCAA basically just said that it is ok for a school to intentionally create a class to increase the GPA of "student-athletes" with no effort, as long as that class is available to all students.
I can't wait for people to throw this onto the pile of things the NCAA does that devalues the scholarship kids get as "payment".

This should just be added to the list of examples in which the "student" part of "student-athlete" should be called into question.
We were kicking around the ideas of starting a new one at GAF when... you know.
I had done the last two.... but I couldn't bring myself to do it this year with your boys as champs.

By Adam Blade Go To PostWSU to the AAC, what say you, college brehs?AAC is just down the last couple years, but it will be in the big conference mix in basketball. Also, the rise of UCF is incredible to watch. We'll make the dance this season. I'd wager at least 4 AAC teams this year make it. If Memphis, Temple, and UConn can ever recover, we should be good for 5-7 bids on the regular.
Power… 6? 🤔
Really like IU's chances of landing Romeo Langford & Darius Garland after their official visits last weekend.

Seems like an optimistic outlook. Thread title updated.

North Carolina Tar Heels senior point guard Joel Berry II broke his right hand last week by punching a door after losing a video game to teammate Theo Pinson and a manager.
"He did a silly thing," North Carolina coach Roy Williams told ESPN at ACC media day Wednesday. "That's what it was. One of his greatest characteristics is his competitiveness."
Pinson said Berry broke his hand while playing NBA 2K18. "It was just a freak accident," he said.
Personally I think you should start a new thread. Been advised to do so with the legacy sports ones.
