Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini claims Roberto De Zerbi wanted to be sacked, so he’ll try to break his contract for “gross misconduct”.
The Coach was given the backing of the club earlier this week, but was sacked this evening following elimination from the Coppa Italia at the hands of Spezia.
“A pitiful match,” Zamparini told reporters.
“A pitiful squad and a pitiful Coach. The day before the match I sent him a message on his mobile phone telling him that I didn’t care about the Fiorentina match, but that the Spezia one was a very delicate one from a psychological perspective.
“That’s why I asked him to play all the starters. He put out a team with a load of reserves. I’m sure he did it to get sacked, and therefore I’ll seek termination of his contract for gross misconduct.
“I’m disappointed by this, because rather than being an insult to me, it’s an insult to Palermo fans and their passion.”
Zamparini previously revealed that De Zerbi would be due "a lot of money" if sacked, but a gross misconduct charge would waive any compensation.
Tonight’s Coppa Italia defeat to Spezia was the last straw for Palermo Coach Roberto De Zerbi, with Eugenio Corini replacing him.
The Rosanero have lost every Serie A game at the Barbera this season, and were knocked out of the Coppa Italia at home to the Serie B side this afternoon.
Having been given a stay of execution earlier this week, President Maurizio Zamparini has finally lost patience with his Coach.
"Having assessed the situation of the first team, the club feels compelled to change Coach and has entrusted the first team to Eugenio Corini," a statement from Palermo confirmed.
It's the third change of the season, with Davide Ballardini sacked after two games to make way for De Zerbi.
The only player that tried was Iwobi
the rest didnt care
Wenger can't motivate players, we know that for long, but today was just incredible
Zero passion from the majority of these players

I wouldn't know. I am a man, we don't go to the doctor.
Just seeing the scores now. Good deal from Saints. Arsenal clearly not bothered with that lineup and bench though.
Did Mourinho serve his ban this game?

Very good match once again. Probably the best one yet under Mourinho's Faria's reign. Completely dominant throughout.
Seriously annoyed at (again!) conceding from virtually the only chance created by the opposition, though.
It just has to stop - along with starting to be even more clinical when goalscoring opportunities arise. That is basically the key to getting this season back on its track.

Not bothered about the League Cup anyway, experience for our kids and reserves innit
Enjoyed that. Well worth the win.
Front four great. Michael Carrick once again proving invaluable. Phil Jones looking solid and healthy.
Bring Poggy in Sunday and keep the same line up otherwise. Mata's great but think we could do with 3 in the mid.

Agree with the front four but thought Carrick was actually quite dodge today. Defensively at least.

Big gap between him and everyone ahead of him, but in terms of just distributing, always looking forward and controlling matches... We need to replace him asap.
Duncan Castles is an even bigger twat now he's rowing in behind United.
Didn't think that was possible.

Good draw. We get the team we're most likely to beat. Other matches should be fun.
We'll lose the final if we get there.
