Reilo doing that Reilo thing of defending mediocre blazers again.
I'm just waiting for the serious "Evan Turner for Jordan clarkson straight up" trade discussion next.

Shouldn't you be too busy defending mediocre things like the triangle and other bad Phil Jackson moves?
By reilo Go To PostWho else was available? Cap money is use it or lose it.Sure Bismack could have been gotten for the same money... and been a starter maybe to help with the two areas Portland is really bad at inside D and on the glass. Then throw some change at a backup PG... There were a few players to be had for 17 to 18 mil per year. Turner was by no means the best fit nor best player on the market
I think some of the hate for turner is the spending on the other guys Portland has done. In particular, Crabble. I'm not sure he fills the holes Portland had. Not that he's bad, just not the guy they needed.
I like Bismack, but I think Portland decided they'd rather gamble on a cheap contract with Ezeli. If Ezeli somehow becomes healthy, then it'll work out great. I think Bismack would've worked out great, but that still leaves them supremely short on competent ballhandlers off the bench.
Who else are the better fits and better players that Portland could've gotten? One player doesn't make a concrete argument imo.

Not sure at that contract though within the context of Turner's contract and vice versa. Turner's becomes more palatable if Crabbe's offer sheet wasn't so high.

I think it's guaranteed ibaka gets traded to a playoff team by the deadline
toronto, boston or portland is my guess

That's what I hope they end up doing with Crabble and why they signed him. I think Turner gives them more of what they need off the bench, but Crabble will be good trade bait. And I sort of hope that was the thinking when re-signing him. They would be able to use him to trade for what they really need, useful defensive bigs.
Ibaka would be really good for Portland. If he has anything left.
TBF they might not have been able to get other players but spending almost 40 million on bench wings when you can't rebound or defend is bad GMing imo...Crabbe was your homegrown dude so paying him is understandable but signing Turner so early was one of biggest wtf moments last off season
Olshey most definitely has a "cream rises to the top" mentality when he acquires assets. He's not afraid to pull the trigger. I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt especially with the turnaround he's done since he's been here. I also can't stress enough how many of the best players didn't even bother talking to Portland. It is what it is, so you gotta work within the context of your FA situation and Portland has that uphill climb.
I also think Turner is a good defender for his position. And the defensive stuff, again, ad nauseum here but I'm waiting to judge them once Aminu is back. Even the best defensive wings can't make up for Meyers on defense. Aminu's a big part of their defensive core and easily their best and most important defender. IF Ezeli can get healthy and can contribute off the bench? Then those two units might look wholly different defensively in three months.
Ibaka is only 27, so he'd fit the age of Portland's core. Tough to trade for him now since he's a FA next summer though.

Honestly I dislike Meyers contract more than anything. If he's not hitting threes he contributes very little.

Huh? Show me the receipts.
There's worse things in this world than paying Turner $70mil. Like paying 31-year-old Joakim Noah $72mil.
By 3SidedPolygons Go To PostHuh? Show me the receipts.I don't have the links catalogued in which you celebrate or defend at the very best mediocrity and at the worst total incompetence. Do I need to for what's usually a daily occurrence?

Well... The Knicks are horrible...
Also if no one calls 3SP out for talking about Bargs being the "perfect" triangle player I might die..

we'd be kinda fucking good
Every shitty move Phil made last summer is just one of many steps in a game of chess Phil plays against himself to improve the team the following summer. Rinse, repeat, every season ever.

throw in your 2017 1st and i'd do it

Last 5 games, Kaminsky in 32 minutes a night is averaging 15.6/5/3 on 45/39/80 %s on 5 3PAs per game. A -1.8 +/- tho. Still, that's legit.

Portland needs some sort of defensive upgrade for sure. I can see Portland or Boston overpaying for Ibaka right now, Boston especially.
Boston already gonna have a full roster or close to it by draft day, Magic might be able to get a stupid amount of mediocre picks for him.

Ainge has to use some of those damn draft picks at some point to acquire a player. It's clear he can't draft for shit and is better off trading them.

Boston has the rights to swap with Brooklyn in 2017 and outright own their 2018 first rounder. They own the Clippers 2019 first rounder (which, if that team gets broken up by 2018, is gonna be potentially really valuable).
Pretty sure the Thunder are not gonna employ a defensive strategy where Westbrook is guarding Anthony. Pretty sure.
